Rupes Bigfoot Polisher vs Griots DA Polisher
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 сен 2024
- This is a quick and "broad" discussion about the evolution of polishing machines with a focus on the Griots DA and new Rupes Bigfoot. (there are many other polishers I've left out of this discussion for the time being) I think it important to understand the progression of paint restoration as it applies to the detailing community. It's very exciting to watch our industry grow rapidly and see the expansion of tools that combine the necessary power (in terms of correction) with fundamental simplicity (meaning anyone can use it safely). Can't wait to see whats next! -L

I have a Porter Cable that I purchased from Groit's before they branded their own in 1999. Its still going strong
Completely agree with your closing statement. For someone in the trade it would pay itself off time and time again. For an average person at home who does it as a passion, it would be very hard to warrant spending the extra money. Great video as always.
I found out about Griots Garage when I got a detailing kit for Christmas, and felt no one knew about their products and they were kind of unheard of. But after watching a bunch of your videos where you mention their products it makes me so more confident in the products I have to use!
You should redo this video with the new Griots g21 vs the Rupes LHR21 mark 2! I think that would be a pretty informational video as it's getting harder and harder for the expanding detailer to know which machine would benefit them best! Thanks
2nd that. I am currently in the market for a polisher and the Griots is very high on my list. Re-visiting this topic will be real helpful Larry as both companies have brought out updated products.
Rob Silva If it helps you any, I ended up purchasing a Zentool ZEN-21E. It's practically a Rupes LHR21, but with a washer mod and a couple other things from factory. I'm very happy with it so far!
results would be about the same... the difference would be in the "feel" and preference.
try it with a kamikaze plate!
The G21 is AMAZING! G21 has my vote, the feel, and the lifetime warranty vs rupes 1 year. Just saying..,
Thanks for taking and sharing your time, all you videos come across to me very sincere while not be self indulgent. I can tell you like why you do both detailing and taking us along with you!
I purchased Griots DA. Works great!!!
YouSoundButtHurt if it works. It works
no...mixed thoughts on that. I might. Not sure. Still playing and testing
I think it is called "random orbital" (the driver is allowed to rotate as it oscillates) vs "orbital" (the driver is kept from rotating while it oscillates) like a square oscillating sander. Either way your right, the rupes has the largest orbital offset.
This was a rupes 21. Thx for watching
Havent heard of them...doesnt mean they are bad. I'm sure they are great, but honestly I've never spoken with them. -L
Oh boy, dont get me in trouble with the professor
I noticed you never polished the tail light with the first machine but did in the last device.
Because it's a rotary
They were both close...just took longer
You got it bud
Either remove the badge or tape them up and work around them
Man i enjoy watching your vids, Its good to see someone so passionate about there job.
Thx bud!
Larry, can you shoot a video on cleaning fabric interiors, carpet/seat cleaning and protection and possibly some stain removal? That would be great!
Rupes ‘ROO-pez’, Griot’s ‘GREE-ohz’
lol, this confused me too, like did I click on the wrong video?
Solvent based cleaner
Awesome explanation. Thanks so much! I'm picking up the Griot's as the Rupes is out of my price range.
the action is called Planetary and the rupes has the biggest Orbit thus being faster works for sanding and polishing
Larry why you dont mention the Flex 3401? any feed back about the Flex 3401 Vs. the Rupes, sure would like to know your opinion.
This is my question too, i am considering between Flex 3401 VRG & Rupes LHR21ES
Great video Larry! (as always) I would love to see you make a video on correcting single stage paint?
Thanks, Larry. Question though, when do you say that a polishing pad is worth throwing away and replacing? How do you wash them and reuse them?
Hopefully a future video on the different types of pads and polishes for beginners will be filmed
To make the focus better when its up close I would get a macro lens. The minimum focus distance is much shorter with those.
Larry, great video as allways. When you speak about a minute or so it doesn't soud like much, but let's not forget rupes was ~45% quicker. Now that's a different perspective, the investment will return just with couple of jobs. For me this is a no brainer.
Where do I find that magnifier
if you watch some of his other vids, he says not to do it in hot sun. seems like it's usually cold where he is since he's not in California
I have been trying to decide which one to buy next, i presently use a torq 22 ,used a bigfoot that belongs to a co-worker, seen the grios. There a lot of good machines on the market
Bigair530 send me an email and can get u links to few things.
Hey Larry, id like to start out by saying thank you. Your videos have helped me greatly in buffing correctly and applying appropriate pressure. My question is; what is the magnifier that you used to show the paint on this video?
You left out the Flex XC3401VRG and the Makita BO6040 da's Have the both the Rupes LHR21ES and the LHR15E. Waiting for the LHR75 to come out in an electric version. Talked to Kevin Brown about the electric version no info about it yet.
Love my Griots
aren't these pronounced "rooopez" and "greeeeohs"
Seeing as he toured the Rupes factory, he would probably know the right way to say that.
theelviscerator I believe in newer videos he starts saying it the other way.
I saw that video. Seems like I remember "Rooopess" with a slight accent on the S
It's "Ruu-pess".
@@alduin69 Yes Niko Ruu-pess . . . R U P E S stands for (in Italian) Realizioni Utensili Pneumatici Elettreci Speciali so E followed by the S in this case does make an ESS sound. So, happy detailing with your Ruupess Niko! : )
Larry could you do a video on, claying, polishing and sealing glass?
And If you notice closely to the video his rupes is free spinning when is off because it has a washer : )
why don't you do work in the shade? doesn't hot paint in the sun affect the product?
During your Griot's inspection (8:23 to be exact) this made me want to request a possible topic for a future video...I'd love to see your techniques on emblem areas. At the time mentioned, the "P" has heavy amount of grime around and inside the loop. What advice can you share the RUclipsrs?!
Caveat: I am thinking about getting into polishing my cars. Which is to say, I am IGNORANT and also vendor neutral. Therefore, I'd truly appreciate comments on the next paragraph from pros who know what they're talking about:
Seems to me that "throw" is very important, and Rupes is a pioneer of that. Furthermore, the time to polish a car is measured in hours, so human-factors engineering should be a KEY product-selection criterion. From the photographs, it looks as if the Rupes has a far more ergonomic design, and thus should wear down the user much less. Bottom line, all things considered, the higher cost of the Rupes should be IRRELEVANT to any professional polisher, given its superior speed and comfort. Only a casual-use enthusiast can justify purchase of one of the less expensive polishers.
Check out the torq22D or torq10fx
Oh you're "thinking about getting into polishing your cars?"... Who cares!?
Mathew Farry like he said he want something good but inexpensive
Mathew Farry Why are you even commenting?? Guy was explaining why he doesn't know much about polishing and why he was watching video. Don't need your negative comments on here
Thank you!
Amazing videos, I've watched them all and they are a great help.
*Do you have any tips regarding scratch removal from interior plastic such as the trunk guard or door panels? I was thinking of sanding and then polishing.
Why do so many car dealerships use an automatic car wash? I have to literally tell them not to wash my car when I bring it in for service and most times they forget to note it or don't note it so as a matter of habit, they run it through and usually I get it back with scratches.
Excellent comparison, Larry. Do you know if the the Rupes polisher compares pretty closesly to the Flex 3401?
great job Larry!
As always good videos
21
Excellent video! Keep them coming.
hi larry, great info, thanks, just bought my first DA, its onnly a cheaper kestrel das6 but i got to start somewhere. one thing i wondering was, how do you manage machine polishing around the badges!
Would love to get my hands on a Rupes Bigfoot, but for me it is to expensive for now. Rolling with a DAP 900 V3 atm. Hopefully, next year . . .
I love my Flex3401 and Cyclo both amazing machines never tried Rupes but looks like a good machine ??
Who started the timer on the rupes side??? Also, this timed comparison makes no sense to me. One can polish one side for 10 minutes and the other for 2 minutes. Does not mean much..
Other than that, i really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
I'd like to see a comparison between the rupes and the direct drive da from flex. Can't decide! Opinions?
thinking of getting a rupes myself. my da machine is missing some power and I can't remove some scratches or deeper marks that I know are removeable...
Is the Rupes worth the extra $300? I don't think so. Spend your extra money on good pads and good compounds. You will get great results.
It’s night and day
Faster and better with progressive trigger which is awesome , extremely balanced and quiet
1 Con..... it’s not left hand friendly as auto button is hard to set with the left hand.
It should have a button on both side. Jmo
Ya it’s worth the money
Great video as always Larry. I just bought a Griots 6inch DA of ebay to detail my car. I was wondering what accessories I should buy for it. I'll probably buy microfiber cutting pads and Menzerna FG400 and seal it with your AMMO Skin or Sonax Nano. Obviously clay bar before hand. Anything else you would recommend?
Thx for the video. How is a random Orbital polisher different to a random Orbital wood sander. Obviously bypassing the fact that one uses sand paper and another uses a pad. Assuming a pad can attach properly using the hook and loop system can I use my woodworking random Orbital?
Great videos, keep up the great work. Have you used the Flex 3401 VRG, if so how does it compare to the Rupes? Does the flex save as much time as the Rupes.
Have you done the washer mod to your Rupes?
hey larry im looking to get a 15ES rupes polisher. Can you let me know if I need to buy a separate 5" back plate to use microfiber polishing pads?
Also have you tried using Pinnacle Safe Scrub Bug & Tar Pad to clean your microfiber polishing pads on the fly? If so, can you please let me a preferred way? I have ripped a few foam pads with a rough brush before.. a bit paranoid.. thanks!
Hi Larry, Thanks for the awesome educational videos. What are your thoughts on the Flex xc3401? would u say that its similar to the rupes? Thank you.
Hey Larry, how would you compare the Rupes with a Flex polisher?
Love the videos !! How would I get dried gum off my paint. Sister drove over a piece of gum and it slung it onto my sideskirt :(
Great vid, thanks Larry!
hey larry, i just bought my first DA, its an entry lvl, kestrel, or DAS6. havint used it yet. can you give me any tips on do's and dont's with the DA polisher, thanks
hey love your videos must be great i've never seen you do a regular car as a detailer meaning ford or Toyota lol i wouldn't either if it was that or a rolls royce keep em coming!!!
I was just giving a gift from a friend it's Chemical Guys torq and i tried it out and it kept on stopping with no pressure so I was told to get rupes 21 is this good for a starter detailer
Would the griots Da or Porter Cable be strong enough or powerful enough to get through the modern paint or hard paint. Im not sure if for each manufacture if the paint is harder or softer but lets say on Land Rovers and Mercedes would the Griots Da and or Porter Cable be powerful enough. Then which would be better to remove heavy swirl marks and for polishing? Thank You for you time.
Hi Larry what are your thoughts on the FLex 3401? Please let me know as I am debating on the rupes 21 or flex 3401. Thanks
how would you go about when using the griots DA and certain scratches wont come out please advise i used the griots DA with the meguiars microfiber pad and the menzerna your using but i got like a couple scratches that arent coming out should i use a different pad or different rountine?
Larry, how does the Rupes compare with the Flex 3401 vrg?
Hi , i like your vids but how do you get around And inbetween Those logos and stuff on the car?
BluefireRedlightning if you never got an answer... he uses the 3” Rupes
Hey Larry, I've never really seen you tape seams, emblems etc to prevent splatter. Is Menzerna that good that you dont need to tape up, or are you using a technique in which there is no splatter?
I dont get much, but there is some splatter with what I use
+Allen Toma I still tape. not all the time but I do. It takes a lot of practice and the right tools. Plus some liquids are prone to sling and some don't so it's all relative to the situation. Thanks for watching!
How are you Larry, I've been detailing cars since 15 years ago, & I'm a little beyond fussy on it. Now on I'm doing body works & paint jobs, but i use to buff my jobs, cause I still believing it will always improve the best of the spray guns finishes obtained. My question is, about that magnifier you showed up in the video, can you tell me a bit about it?, I want to Know how to explain what it is when I go to buy it, it's a great help. .
I went on their website and only found a random orbital. Is that the same thing as the dual action polisher!? Lol I m so confused!
Help!
It depends. If it says, "Polishing and random orbital" in the title, then yes, it's considered a "dual action", but worded differently. You should also watch videos on the particular model you're looking at to see how much it spins.
Griots is a great polisher because now you can get them cheap, while I also like the Rupes the Griots is a best in class for bang for buck.
Larry can you do a video on how to polish over or around emblems like that Cayenne has, just wondering what method is best
+drechsla Yes I do. :) ruclips.net/video/u6sqXxvwanU/видео.html
How do you feel about the 3 generation griots polisher?
do touch less automatic car washes scratch your car? Its winter where I live and I don't have a heated garage or running water to access during the winter
Hey bud hope your staying safe, great video as always. Just bought the Griot's 6" random orbital kit today. Looking forward to getting my swirl marks and oxidation out. I was able to clay bar the car myself and a good wash to take all the cement off. Now on to polish and wax, any suggestions on what pad I should use for swirls and what product I should use it came with the 3 in 1 wax? Any input would be great. Thanks 😊
hey bud. watch some of my other polishing paint videos in the playlist. I go over some pads and liquids that I use in certain situations. Hope that helps. good luck and thanks for watching and supporting AMMO
Griots is a great starter polisher!
Any headlight restoration tips?
What model is the Griots?
What's the website where you buy the double action buffer ? Thanks
HOW MANUFACTURE THIS Griots DA Polisher ??
How do you get excess polish off the car emblems and such?
Really did the paint job on your car. What is it called?
Ok so what do you think about the flex da polisher
I am new to car detailing. I am planning to buy a da polisher for my own car. Help me in deciding to go for 8mm or 15mm throw polisher?
Thank you for this video!
Hi Larry which type did you use on this video? Rupes Bigfoot Polisher LHR21E or Rupes Bigfoot Polisher LHR15E.
John D most likely the 21 because that has the bigger throw which is the point of the Rupes
the orange machine has 7hp? how do you work that out?
I am just an enthusiast looking for a new polisher. is it safe to use LHR 21 Mark II with both 150mm and the 125mm back plate? If so, can you recommend a dealer? I live in California, usa.
Whos house is the larry? Your house or customer? It seems your always at the same place
Hi larry, what about rupes lhr 21 vs flex xc 3401?
Mirka ceros, very cool. check it out. They have a 2 , 5, and 8 mm orbit , They are seperate machines with variable speed. about $500 each
What's your opinion on the Cyclo?
should i get thePC or Groits.. im stuck.
^^^^^ I have the same question. Great videos and great info!
What its the best way buffing around and between emblems?
