i just started detailing for a dealership and blew my managers expectations out of the water on the first day because of all of the things ive learned watching this channel. easily one of the best sources out there!
I thought the same thing. When I first found out about Ammo NYC I was at their website and started watching the training videos there. I thought the first ones were freebies and that I would eventually have to pay for access to get more detailed content but that wasn't the case. Watching the Ammo training videos is like getting a Phd in paint correction/detailing for free. I will definitely support Larry by purchasing Ammo products.
The production value and quality of your work is second to none. Absolutely amazing Larry. I’m a big fan of your work, I detail as a hobby... just a heads up, in the near future I’ll be buying all your products as show of my gratitude for the several hundred hours you spent making all these videos... keep up the good work, keep inspiring!!
Absolutely amazed by the amount of information delivered in this video. I cant believe we're getting this valuable information for free from masters in the industry. Thank you for helping us realize that we don't need the "best" gear to get the job done but instead the "right" gear with the proper knowledge.
Great explanation of the differences. This is why I have the BigFoot 21, the LHR15, and the iBrid Nano. My Jeep, my STI, and my Truck have different size panels, shapes, and lines. It’s nice having the right tool for the job.
@@adamb2619 I have the Limited trim so it has a moon roof up top which reduces the paint surface that I have to cover. The LHR15 works as I've only had to do a few spots around the car. If I were going to polish the whole thing the 15 would work, but you could cut back some effort/time using the 21 on the doors and the roof. The ibrid nano works great for the front bumper around the fog lights and grill. So depending on how much you're trying to do all of them are great, but the 15 is versatile enough to use alone if you don't have the budget for the other two.
Thanks to Kevin for doing those lights in the pads. Really help to show each action of the various units. Give this episode a 5-Star rating from the beginner’s viewpoint. Excellent!
Feel like each video like this is 20x more valuable than every college class I have ever had. Can’t believe that he has posted these for free. Very thankful! Going to be purchasing some products online as a thank you! I have tried the Lather that you make and it does an incredible job. Can’t wait to get more of your products!
I can't express enough how much i appreciate and love these great videos as a detailer myself ,i think your a class act 100 % Larry and such a important asset to the car detailing community .there are so many phonies on you tube bashing other peoples products while pushing there own stuff to sell and giving so much fake a false information ,the only thing i can say is thank god for you Larry your the best and the detail king in my opinion and the only guy i trust to watch .
Love how your not bashing any type of polisher. I actually started with a rotary , still don't have much experience but I think anyone can use any machine with the right knowledge
Wow Kevin Brown. I remember talking to him literally 10 years ago and back then, we didn't have Rupes or Meguiars or other fancy machines. All we had was the Porter Cable and rotary. And with the weak porter cable, Kevin Brown devised the KBM which allowed the Porter Cable to operate just as aggressively as a rotary using Surbuf pads. He even sent me the URL to buy them. Back then Surbuf was not available at most online stores, and I had to place my order over the phone. Good times.
Larry - this is an absolutely brilliant video for someone like me - an amateur enthusiast just getting started on detailing over past couple of years as a hobby - fantastic balance of science and reflections from experts on actually using these polishers in practice. Fascinating, helpful, enjoyable. Well done. I am officially now a fan. M
Literally have watched every single video of yours over the last 2+ years & I learned some new things from this one!! Amazing content that I can’t believe is free
Great demonstration of each machine purposes. One thing manufactures need to pay attention to is the long term health concerns that high frequencies machines causes when using on a daily basis. Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) Is real! Hope to see machine manufactures innovative from a user health prospective as well as the results they provide for our industry.
Phenomenal Explanations! 👍 Just went to buy LED Lighting for my garage detailing build for the 2017 GTI Clubsport seen at my channel today! Settled for dual 43 Watt LED's @ 1200 mm each outputting 4400 Lumens & IP65 Protection! We will be installing it into a 3,6 * 6 meters Galvanized PVC Garage Tent! Wish us luck getting things up & running as its crazy windy here in Sweden @ the moment! 😄 👍
Absolutely fantastic video. I’m a weekend warrior and have only used the Dual Action was thinking of going to buy a flex or rupes but could understand why the jump in price. This has made me understand more about all machines and definitely understand the logic behind them all now. Thanks for such a informative video and look forward to the next one
Again, thank you Larry and Kevin for giving detail explanation and demonstration of the different rotational patterns of the different machines by using the LED lights. I think it's a must video for anyone whether they intend to be buying a machine or just to understand the pattern and size the machine will do. Looking forward to the next episode on pads and liquids. Ozz
When wet sanding I always go to my old school wool pad and rotary. The learning curve is larger, but in this certain application results are achieved faster and easier
Loving these “Classes!” These are exceptionally produced, and well thought out. As a beginner, I’m learning a ton of great information, which is giving me a great foundation for my future experiences. Thank you!
Can you add these 200 series videos into your “Intermediate” playlist please? I’ve learned literal metric shit tons from just listening to you sharing the knowledge and your passion in a way that’s understandable for a guy that just wants to keep up on his car! Thanks and always look forward to the next video!
Well done. This is destined to be a reference point. This will now be the video I will direct noobies to to help the understand these important concepts.
I remember having a conversation with Kevin about the large throw of the Cyclo, where I made the comment that I'd wished Cyclo would design a single head polisher and how well it would work. At the time, Kevin informed me about the Dynabrade attachment, which was the only single head long throw polishing device of the time. What a beast that thing was!! I still have mine!!
Great Video and pros at work. Just want to mention that for large stroke machines can be limited to pad size. I learned this the hard way. Put a large pad on a large stroke machine. Good luck holding on to it! Now it search of small / medium stroke machine so I can run larger pads! I did not see that coming when I bought the larger Pads!
I used some Griots compound yesterday and it didn't come out great but it looks a lot better than it did.. It did bring back the color and gloss.. I was having problems from the start no matter how much compound I used.. I started to do like 16"x12' sections and things got better..
wow the amount of information in this videos its wonderful, the idea of the LED's in the pads its an eye opener! Larry keep this up, i love your videos but this kind of videos are one of the best, thanks for sharing the knowledge and lets dont forget Keving Brown! personally thank you to both of you for this videos!
Nice visual representation of different polishers; can’t argue with that! Top video (as are they all). Thank you for putting the work into doing these...
Wow. Great stuff. Thanks to you and Kevin for sharing your knowledge and experience. The Rupes rep breaking down the linear length and purpose of the "throw" makes so much sense. Never thought of it like that.
Perfect explanation of different polishers, would help any new detailer or apprentice spray painter to choose his/hers tools of trade. Nice one guys 👌🏽
This wholes series, 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.......Thanks Again, intuitively I knew I needed different machines for different jobs and sized panels, being relatively new it’s great to put some knowledge, wisdom and understanding into that decision. Really looking forward to the next segment, polishes and pads, arguably the most confusing.
The DA spin operates on inertia (the counterweights). So when the spinning of the pad stops, they take a while to wind up again. I found them so frustrating to use. I spent half my time lifting the pad off the surface to get it to spin again. I'm pretty sure people don't realize how often their DA spin is stalling because the machine is always vibrating and shaking back and forth even when the spin has stopped. You might think that everything is cool. The rotary is such a pleasure to use. Smooth and easy to handle. If you use common sense and keep the thing moving it is very effective. I reserve my DA for final polishing now and the time savings is huge. I may have to pick up a 3401 or a Mille just to see if that is the machine I've been looking for. I still can't understand why they are so expensive though. The design seems very simple.
Love the video, one of the best out there. Thanks for the continued community support. If you ever end up in Vancouver, BC or near it, would love to take a course by you.
Great Video !! Thanks. I have a Porter Cable 7424 xp and I'm looking to upgrade. This video really helps. I'm trying to decide between a forced rotation and a long throw. I'm looking forward to the next video. Love you guys.
Man these training videos are great! I'm always interested of the workings on things that I use to use them better, the idea with the leds is a great way to finaly look behind the science! I can't wait how you guys gonna visualize the workings of different pads :)
I see detailers always center the pad so carefully on a rotary buffer. If u put a pad on a rotary buffer a little off center, will not be about the same action as a random or da polisher?
If you place a pad 8mm off centre, yes you will have an 8mm orbit on the pad. But you only get one orbit per revolution. The Flex for example will oscillate about 10-12 times in one revolution on its gearing. I haven’t counted them, but from memory it feels like 12.
Yet another great video! Maybe I'm missing something here, but since we have large throw machines and force driven with a smaller throw. Would it be possible to combine the two? Say to have a force drive machine with a 15mm throw instead of 8?
I know you mentioned no 1 type of machine is the best, but would it be safe to say that if cost and minimizing chance of damage to the paint are your priority a random orbital would be the top pick?
Your videos rock! I just bought a DA Polishing Machine and the Rupes Corse, Fine and Ultra Fine pads. Getting ready to do my first paint correction detail. What product do you recommend using with each pad? Thanks!
So I've been detailing around 5 years, and I'd say I'm a master interior detailer, but in the last year I've really been adding exterior cutting/polishing to my arsenal. What are the benefits to switching to a rupe vs a flex? Such as weight, results, cutting/polishing/finishing all in one tool...that's why the flex is great to me especially as a novice. I'm really thinking about a rupe...can you give me quick thoughts on the matter? Love the channel great job
Kevin Buff Daddy Brown is an Encyclopedia of paint correction knowledge but we love to hear our information from Larry K. of AMMO NYC, Larry is our “Master Detailer”! Just as you look up to people like KB or Jason or whom ever we could follow them and their training but you explain and express things a certain kind of way when it’s just you. When you introduce others it makes it awkward and while still very good knowledge and you trying to collaborate with other experts is very thoughtful of you to offer access that we may not otherwise have, I still much prefer you learn tips to add from them but I learn from you. I try to give it a chance and I always do and I enjoy it I much prefer just Larry! Either way thank you and in no way do I mean any disrespect the the greatness that is buff daddy or any other guest you may have. Thanks for all of your tips and videos and keep on DRIVING CLEAN
I like My FLEX3401(had it since 2009) for most work. The Adams mini is terrific for hard to reach spots. I also like My Cyclo. I have liked it since the 80’s. I am going to adapt to “stick to one product” via Your other video. I have far too many compounds, etc.
Now I still don't really know what I'd need to start off. You listed the pros and cons for most but still kinda hard to sort of decide. Large areas, safe compounding/removal, I'd say random DA or large stroke DA? The gear driven one seems nice but the forced rotation kinda worries me.
What u mentioned at 22:30 maybe answered my question.why can't u use a rotary polisher all the time? perfectly center the pad for rotary action for those tight areas, When u want a short throw DA action, place the pad a little off center. When u want a longer throw DA action, place it more off center.why have so many different polishers?
Anoth BIG drawback of the rotary is the SLING. You find yourself sending little white dots of compound/polish all over the place. Makes cleanup a total nightmare. Yes, prepping your pad correctly can help minimize, but it’s impossible to fully avoid. Orbitals do not sling at all...
ok, so I do not understand what stalling is. I bought a cheap "presa turbine da polisher" off of amazon and have used it for a year or two. I have recently been noticing the pad stalling and not spinning quickly and basically vibrating a whole bunch on relatively flat or slightly curved surfaces. In order to get the pad/machine to do its job and spin at an average cutting rate, I must relieve an immense amount of pressure or weight off of the machine and paint. In most cases enough weight is removed from the polisher/paint I feel like it is barely touching the paint. I thought it may have been the machine going bad or cheap non centered pads but now I know that may not be the case. What causes stalling? Anyone can answer but would love to hear a comment from Larry! For example, @20:31
I have watch a few of your videos now....Thank you for them, they have been very helpful. I do have a question...If Ceramic coatings have been applied prior to removing swirls, defects, etc...is it possible to remove the ceramic coating?? ...and then with the light and knowledge I have received from your videos...apply it the right way :)
To resume, Large stroke dual action are the best, quicker, and more effective. But if you want be really really precise in what you do you better use a rotatory machine because it does a stationary movement. Random orbital and Gear driven are "has been" in a way.
Hi Whats the deal with forced rotation Flex machine 8 mm through, or 5.5 mm Makita ? Will it finnish perfectly fine with one step compound and no holograms every time / black / dark colours paintwork / both german and japanese paints or at least germans ? In hands of intermediate to advanced skilled da polisher person ?
i just started detailing for a dealership and blew my managers expectations out of the water on the first day because of all of the things ive learned watching this channel. easily one of the best sources out there!
@Jeremy Dziesinski make them* more money. you still work as a 9-5 slave
It's unbelievable that you're uploading these for free. Really great work guys.

judging by his subscribers and the views on this video trust me he is getting paid a ton of money
Exactly. People on here talking like it’s some great charitable act. He works hard and is motivated but make no mistake dudes gettin’ paid.
Incredible how comprehensive and pointed this presentation is.
"All killer and no filler".
Thanks Larry and Kevin.
Ohh, so its not All Filler - No Thriller..?? ;)
man! those LED's are eye opening into the true movement. great video Larry and kevin!
Just bought a couple of 43 watt 4400 lumen 1200mm LED's today to mount in my new detailing garage! - Phenomenal Output !!! :)

Hands down the best polishing guide I've seen. Absolute gold. I don't use AMMO but I might just have to visit your shop to say thank you.
This is one of THE best explorations of different polishers I've ever seen. Bravo!

Kevin brown customer service skills are awsome also.He drop the ball on my order( not a big deal really) and gave me a bottle of Rupes UHS Easy Gloss

As usual, innovative, educational and entertaining. Nailed it. THANK YOU Larry and Kevin!
Just made the big dive into polishers and went with the rupes lhr15 mk3 deluxe kit, i cant wait for it to arrive!!!
Thank you for clearing up my question about striping the paint with chemicals vs using a machine. Very clear answer! Thank you!
Thanks to Ammo and Kevin as always for their great help and keep in mind everyone. They do this for free. Great work God Bless
This wholes series, 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.......Thanks Again, intuitively I knew I needed different machines for different jobs and sized panels, being relatively new it’s great to put some knowledge, wisdom and understanding into that decision. This series is fantastic! Thanks for putting in the time to share these things with us. Learning a ton.
I'm refinishing a Steinway grand piano and your tutorials are really helping.
Thanks
I love these ATA series! Thank you AMMO NYC for creating them.

Witch is best posher da or rotary
Nice one guys, this will help others to understand the what why and how.
As always thank you larry, I learned a lot with this series so far. That led pad is awesome so cool to actually see the patterns the machines make.
Love the video, one of the best out there. Thanks for the continued community support. If you ever end up in Vancouver, BC or near it, would love to take a course by you.
Awsome Visual presentation, cant wait for the next one
Great Video !! Thanks. I have a Porter Cable 7424 xp and I'm looking to upgrade. This video really helps. I'm trying to decide between a forced rotation and a long throw. I'm looking forward to the next video. Love you guys.

I started on a Black and Decker rotary in 1975 and I am finishing on a rotary...I also use DA Polisher now days too....
Cleverly done very informative. Eye opening to say the least thanks
Thank you Larry & Yoda...

Get one. You won't regret it. It'll cut your paint correction time in half and doesn't get hot like the flex
Lmao Larry. 1. I love that you answered the phone when I went to order. And 2. You hair my guy 😂😭😭
The LEDs really hammer the motion home. 👌👌👌
These ATA videos are so brilliantly planned and produced they just obsolete everything else..
Your making me more and more comfortable and better everyday, hope to run into you one day your very local to me
These videos are awesome. Keep them coming!
Damn that 26 min went past so fast! Informative and entertaining
It really did.. felt like a 10 minute video.
Hi Larry, Awesome videos love them all thanks for sharing take care always.
Another brilliant video. Thanks again guys.
What about those 5'' Random orbital palm sander?
Very nice... best regards from Germany...
Larry, as far as the large pattern gear driven machines... which one is best or friendliest for the novice?
Kevin Buff Daddy Brown is an Encyclopedia of paint correction knowledge but we love to hear our information from Larry K. of AMMO NYC, Larry is our “Master Detailer”! Awesome video and very well done!!
Hi Larry,
Pls, could you recommend a few, entry level, large stroke dual action machines (not battery operated)?
Thank you. Tommaso
Dude, these are so good.
great demonstration
I like My FLEX3401(had it since 2009) for most work. The Adams mini is terrific for hard to reach spots. I also like My Cyclo. I have liked it since the 80’s. I am going to adapt to “stick to one product” via Your other video. I have far too many compounds, etc.

excellent video! So are 'large stroke' polishers gear driven? Since they can 'stall' I assume not. Thanks!
Do ph balanced chemicals also dry out the paint?
These guys are Legends!
What u mentioned at 22:30 maybe answered my question.why can't u use a rotary polisher all the time? perfectly center the pad for rotary action for those tight areas, When u want a short throw DA action, place the pad a little off center. Awesome I use polisher from last 8 years but you give me all details which I need
Any thoughts on the festool rotex and the geared orbital action.
ok, so I do not understand what stalling is.
Another great vid. Love it. As a bit of fun how about comparing a cheap DA polisher to an expensive one?
Question. Whats a good brand for lights. Natural light etc ?
What's the appropriate speed setting to polish an acrylic aquarium using a DA polisher?
where can i buy those leds for my buffer?
Thanks again Larry
I have watch a few of your videos now....Thank you for them, they have been very helpful. I do have a question...If Ceramic coatings have been applied prior to removing swirls, defects, etc...is it possible to remove the ceramic coating?? ...and then with the light and knowledge I have received from your videos...apply it the right way :)
Great video Larry ;) explanation make total sense.
To resume, Large stroke dual action are the best, quicker, and more effective. But if you want be really really precise in what you do you better use a rotatory machine because it does a stationary movement. Random orbital and Gear driven are "has been" in a way.
Hi
Whats the deal with forced rotation Flex machine 8 mm through, or 5.5 mm Makita ?
Will it finnish perfectly fine with one step compound and no holograms every time / black / dark colours paintwork / both german and japanese paints or at least germans ? In hands of intermediate to advanced skilled da polisher person ?
Rotary is good for a boat, for gel coat. I prefer to use the RUPES or the Flex 3401.
