What the English speakers don´t understand is that the vowels in Portuguese don´t have the same sound. Ex: The English E sound is the I in Portuguese. Tip before trying to speak Portuguese memorize the sound of the vowels. Another tip, the O is read as a U unless it has an accent (ó). Ex: we say Purtugal not Portugal. The way the English say it would have to be written Pórtugal. Until you learn the sounds of the vowels you will never understand how to speak Portuguese, but after that you will have your ah ha moment.
I met Christopher in Lisbon in 2023 at the Our Black Utopia Meet Up. We’ve kept in contact since then. It’s great to see him and meet Monica on this LIVE. Really enjoyed this one. 👍🏾

Argentina has indigenous people but they are mostly in the northwestern part of the country. But similar to the Native Americans of the US, they were mostly wiped out by colonialism and disease.
Right we were be snarky because the Spanish Argentines try to act like no POC’s are in Argentina🤣

I wondered why Christopher through most of the three hour conversation said "she" not Monica when referring to the lady sitting behind him. 😆 My husband is from Ohio so YES, very cool AA's have 'ties' to Ohio. My two experiences with Ohio leaves me saying it is a place to be from not a place I would ever want to live. With that said - there is NO state in the US that is ALL bad or ALL good - but this is a running joke between Ric and me - and must be said to get his ire up. 🤣
To your answer, were use to calling each other different names, not our real names, unless we’re in trouble. 😮 For the purpose of the interview, was so focused on the questions, answering them honestly, and being a little nervous in my first live interview, I didn’t even notice I was saying “she”. 😂

I have been really enjoyed watching your channel, very eye opening. Wondering if you have any advice for a 57 year old who might be interested in moving abroad in the future but has no retirement. Where things stand right now would only have SSI income. If one of your other episode talks about this please direct. Stay BLESSED
Alesia, you need to save money like you've never saved before. Eliminate all non-collateralized debt (credit cards). Create a HEALTHY emergency fund (at least 6 months of living expenses - remember your expenses abroad could be a lot less). Ric and I started saving 65% of our income - we cut cable and everything else that didn't make sense. We changed carriers to get other expenses as low as possible. We cooked more and had potlucks and game nights instead of meeting friends for dinner.
On top of the 65% we put an extra $300-400 in a brokerage account.
It cost some money to move abroad, but once you get settled the expenses come down...way down. Our rent is about $1400 for 3 bedrooms, our utilities are never more than $150, no car, no car insurance, but our metro cards add up to about $65 for the two of us, and lastly our health insurance is about $180 per month for the two of us.
