I decided to leave corporate America at age 44 due to health issues. When I left my high-paying corporate job, my family and friends were shocked and tried to convince me to stay. My husband was supportive of my decision to become an entrepreneur. As other ethnic groups noticed my work ethic, they wanted me to join their teams, but I declined. Once I became self-employed, there was no turning back; I had enough of the games! I could pick, choose, and refuse who I wanted to work with! I will be 77, and I still receive calls asking for advice and requests to come out of retirement. Today, I'm enjoying retirement! 😊

On the topic of adult children they pick up on our emotions and feel the impact of our stress. When my son graduated from high school, he applied for and took a position at my company. After about a month, he quit; I had plans for him. Why did I think he would want to go through what I was dealing with? I don't know. He was more intelligent than me because he decided he would not work in any toxic environment. 😊

I missed this live, but so much resonated with me! I wont write a long novel..in the comments . The PET to THREAT hit home, I have been dealing with it most of my career. So many try to dim your light, instead of being uplifting, and being a REAL collaborative environment. The past few years I had mental clarity, or should I say a mental re-awakening, and decided to take hold of the life and talents that God has blessed me with ON MY OWN TERMS...because "life is short and the world is wide".😃

#replay - Very sorry for your loss! Life is so very short and I have had multiple toxic jobs but I was always told - you are so lucky to be traveling for your job, or that you are making this salary or that you are able to do these things - not knowing what we have to deal with - I typically find my time to need to leave right after the honeymoon phase - you are no longer to brand new shiny object so folks show their true colors. I am sooooo ready to make a change that is for me....

Watched the replay OBU 💎💎💎 and Dr Kimani explained perfectly what I just experienced on my part time job with a co-worker. Long story short I am grateful to have this job as it’s my one-way ticket to retire abroad (401k contribution with company match and healthcare benefits). I will do my part to avoid and or have as little contact with this person as I planned on retiring in 2 years. Cleaned up my debt and now I’m downsizing. Thankful to have found OBU as y’all have continued to encourage me if y’all can do it so can I!! ❤peace and continued blessings!! 🙏🏽

Wanted to send my condolences to your family🙏🏽🙌. I am so blessed to be able to tune into your Channel. This topic of working on a toxic job or working in a toxic corporate culture is eye opening. I am trying to replace my paycheck; I have a daughter with Down’s syndrome she is now 17 and I am raising her as a single mom. I am now at a point of incredible fatigue and have stayed on the job for the consistent pay and bonus 1x a year. Anyway I desire to relocate to Portugal and I am looking to learn all I can and I have debt and need to increase savings; so I am plugging in and hope to join one of the meet ups. You all are doing invaluable work for those who need to know how to do what it takes to achieve their
dream and desire to move abroad. Thank you, Thank you!🤗🙏🏽💗

Dr. Kimani really hit the nail on the head with Bullies in the work place... I blame our governmental/school system for a lot of this it's the "divide and Conquer" mindset ultimately... We need to come together and help each other somehow! There is a lot to overcome... I miss the Martin Luther King days when he was trying to bring us all together!! Seems like we have gone backwards! Much Love to the work you are doing in holding up brothers and sisters to higher ground! Blessings!

Talkin about what people tell their kids, one of the most toxic things is “You’ll understand when you’re grown/ on ur own.” And this is toxic in various contexts, but definitely in the context of toxic worklife invading the home.
Displayin the job stress at home, complainin about it, takin it out on their kids or others & then makin it out to be “what makes u grown/ an adult” is not healthy. The kids, who deep down just want to he “adults” already, will start to aspire to portraying those behaviors themselves- cuz then that meams they’re finally grown.
So when the kids become of adult age & find themselves in toxic jobs, complaining about the toxicity everyday with friends & family, its bitter sweet to them cuz it almost feels like a badge of honor. This ends up enabling the toxic job to have a stronger grasp on the life of this young adult, solidifying this way of life as “the norm.”
If the young adult was taught better and knew better, they wouldn’t feel like it’s a badge of honor, the mark of adulthood, when all they can do is complain about their worklife misery everyday.

I hear you, but these younger millennials and Gen Z'ers are putting up with that crap. I went through 3 admins at my former job, not because of me but because of the higher ups having unrealistic expectations.

    • @papisaoco708
      @papisaoco708 2 месяца назад

@@OurBlackUtopia I feel u. It’s dangerous when the people above u get replaced. I’ve noticed that every single supervisor i had who was actually respectable ended up leaving their position, & the job becomes miserable under their replacement. I never knew the reasons why they left, but its clearly a pattern of those unrealistic expectations from higher ups not sitting right with the respectable people. So unfortunatey all the good supervisors who people enjoy working for get run out the door because of it. It’s a shame.

O, My God, you nail it Mrs . Halisi, for years I've been said the same Racism is exported, people see the movies, news and music from the States and their perspective and idea , that is America.
But people didn't get me when I said. America has so many positive things, but they adapt the "ugly". I see through my son and we talk to him and don't aloud certain behaviors, such as pants down, the way some music portrays women.
    It makes me sad.

Hey Ana, thank you for watching and please forgive the delay in responding. Life has been lifin'. 😳
I finally started letting my son dress as he wanted (within reason) - he railed against "respectability politics", without knowing or understanding the term. But he and his generation have the attitude of, 'if they are so shallow, F them'.
At first, I fought against him on this, but then I realized that many of his generation have that attitude.

    First off-my condolences.
Secondly, this resonates so much with me. I had reversed my Type 2 Diabetes (after 10 yeaers of complications and struggles); my body was healing when the job (with golden handcuffs) started acting a fool. It was the PRIMARY reason I left a six-figure job was it was threatening to undo all the work I did to finally get off Diabetic meds, etc. It took me 7 months to find another job (which hallelujah will allow me to work anywhere I want) but I needed all. of those 7 months to heal from the anger and resentment from what I put up with while working there for the past 4 years. I thinks it's imperative as well to wipe your slate completely clean before you start anything anew....you can't put old wine into new wineskins...
