"I remember a boat".... and everything changed after that. The good guy Crockett became the badass Burnett. What a magnificent story, what a great concept, top-notch acting by everyone! Miami Vice lives in our hearts forever.
absolutely love how stunned crockett gets when Stan tells him that he shot Tubbs. Crockett looks at Marty and Marty just nods... This starts to break Crockett more than anything else.. When Marty tells him Tubbs was wearing a bulletproof vest. Crockett breaks with relief and then tries to pull it together. This was an incredibly acted scene with little dialog. It also shows how close Crockett and Tubbs had become over the course of 5 years.
I had to watch the episodes from the end of season four and the beginning of season five repeatedly just to understand the plot/arc. It was ahead of its time.
Sonny's shock, disbelief, instant regret, and sudden stammering when he realizes he shot Tubbs before the desperate relief once he's told that Tubbs was wearing a vest is great acting.
Great stuff. As a 50 year old man loving Donnie Wayne Johnson from the get, watch rebel ridge and get ready for doctor Odyssey premiering on ABC September 26th
One of the best parts of Miami Vice was the music!!! Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Sting, and so many other great artists were introduced/showcased on this show!
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush were such a great duo. Never has there been and never will there ever be an era that gives even feelings remotely close to the 80s.
Every time I remember Miami Vice, the best series I have ever seen, this epic scene comes to mind, and that incredible song .. Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, Miami Vice aroma in its purest form ..

Welcome to the best cop show, and the 80s!_
This scene was without a doubt incredibly well acted on DJ’s part. And a few mentions of the ending of “Out where the buses don’t run”. Big respect to both. But no one scene encapsulated DJ as Sonny Crockett/Burnett and his inner conflict and treading that thin line than the ending of “Deliver Us From Evil Pt2” when he shot and killed Hackman who had killed his wife (Sheena Easton). Man...the look in his eyes and his cold demeanor was bone chilling. My favorite scene in the series. Oh yeah, and blowing up the Daytona.
What joy and pain at the same time. You inevitably feel reminded of that time when you have witnessed it and on the other hand you have tears in your eyes because this time is inevitably over ....
When he learns he shot Rico...not once, but twice...damn, it’s painful to watch Sonny even try to process the very thought. The way he looks in utter stunned disbelief from Stan to Marty, the unspoken query from Sonny of whether he’d actually done such a thing, and the simple grave nod from Marty in response...absolutely masterful.
I know when Sonny comes walking in to the police station and heard all those guns clicking I thought my heart would fall into my stomach and it just took my breath away because he's not just Crockett the cop but now he's Burnett the criminal that scene takes my breath away every single time I see it, especially when Switek asks about Tubbs. When I saw that scene I think I just started to cry.... the look on Crockett's face was just so devastating.
Sonny was always borderline crazy and out of his mind, from the PTSD in Viet Nam and being a vice cop in Miami. The explosion on the boat at that summit meeting removed the last bit of resistance from him, the will power that keeps us from going insane. That is what made the otherwise soap opera cliche of amnesia so perfect here.
I still remember the first episode where Crockett and tubbs meet looking for colderone who killed tubbs brother in NYC then escaped to miami. Michael Mann is a genius!!
The Sonny Burnett arc of the late season 4/early season 5 was my favourite. I know many people hate on the last MV seasons, but I quite like them, especially musically wise (and that Tim Truman music!).
Love the Tune Don't give up Performed by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush ❤️😢 I will never give up,That tune says it all as I have lost so many loved ones, 😢 Nothing can beat the Original Miami vice series from Crockett to Burnett as he was Stunned when Marty tells him about Tubbs 😢. Edward James Olmos was great in this, Just seen him In Mayans MC. Still got that Don't ever come in my face look from his Younger days
The look on Sonny's face when Castillo and Switek ask him if he remembers shooting Tubbs; at that moment Sonny probably realized that Tubbs wasn't among them in the office when he came in and he thinks Tubbs is dead, the sorrow on his face and in his eyes is almost overwhelming. Then Castillo tells him Tubbs was wearing a vest, Sonny's expression is one of great relief that his partner, his brother is still alive.
The episode Shadow in the Dark was one of my favorites. At the end you didn’t know if Sonny dreamed what happened or if it was reality. Scared me to death!!
My top five best moments in Miami Vice. 1. In the Air Tonight phone call/drum peel out/drive. 2. End of Out Where the Busses Don't Run. 3. Marty going samurai in Bushido. 4. Crockett revving up the Testarossa. 5. Burnett walking into the OCB and finally becoming Crockett again.
