The concept transformer with a gun for a head actually made it into the live-action film "AGE OF EXTICTION"

That sideways combo got me thinking of a Megatron and Ratchet fusion from a comic
The Turbo Teen similarity is interesting when you consider that there was a licensed Turbo Teen transforming model kit, but the model kit was connected to Go-Bots rather than Transformers.
I had the Turbo Teen model as a kid and that's exactly what it looked like. Hasbro ripped off the design 100%.
@@tomwhiting6900 For the scale (it would be small to fit inside the larger jet) and the era, there isn't much you can reasonably do for a car-to-humanoid transformation.
@@BainesMkII You know? Reminds me way more of what Super Fire Dagwon I think it was from the Brave franchise. I mean, has the giant robot turn to a plane with huge undercarriage, mini car robot that fits into the chest. Just a coincidence I guess.
A Centurion Transformer is a neat idea. I'd love to see a four-armed Transformer, I just have no idea what it's alt. mode would be.
With some creativity it could turn into any altmode, although I think the easiest alt mode you could give it is some sort of construction vehicle or a military vehicle

Technically ROTF Ejector had four arms, or rather four lower arms.
the Symmetrical Docking gimmick that predates GaoGaiGar that you tried to mention is Blue Raker and Green Raker who combines into Ultra Raker from the 1st Brave series Exkaiser.

A human wearing that car who goes into the larger robot form... That kind of reminds me of Brave Command Dagwon. This could have been an inspiration for that toyline and series.

That video game Transformer would work really well into today’s market, I think. They were making AR compatible figures in the 80’s, man.
Takara actually did for something like this, back in the mid-2000's. They made a separate range of transforming toys, with the main character being a train that transformed into a robot. There were others, including a pirate ship that turned into a dragon, etc. The main robot could interact with a cartoon via the same "light gun" technology and you could score points.

Er, it wasn't only the Japanese that postured a gun-headed transformer. In the US, for the ROTF film, Lockdown had a head that transformed into a giant gun.
The "Battlebeast" figure was either similar to Daniel's exo-suit (just with legs instead of wheels) or it was a Pretender shell itself that fitted inside another Pretender shell.
Also, why are these designs such a surprise? They're inside the Takara TF books that were widely available in Japan (and could be ordered via Amazon Japan, I think).

I totally agree that the statue pretender with a centaur mode would have been awesome. I think the Pretender line had real potential that never got explored or developed properly

The toy with the gun head thing is basically Cannon Soldier from yu-gi-oh.
I would love to see that alligator carbot get a figure because he looks like a in between of a Autobot and maximal like he's a Fusion of both
5:37 Wow..... I've actually been working on a transformable VHS-Ravage concept for about a year now and I can tell you, it's a nightmare to try to pull-off. I also finished a VHS-Laserbeak about 2-years ago & eventually plan to do a VCR-Soundwave. Never knew this concept-art existed. Would love to know the source for this, and was this done on the Japanese Microchange-end or the U.S. Hasbro-Transformers end?

Although these concepts are really weird and probably would've sold poorly, their super creative and fun. I just love the weird side of g1 and to have more ideas for those odd sides is super interesting, especially the split robot mode which is so ridiculous it's awesome.
That gun headed Decepticon would fit right in with the DJD.
That tanker ship is so cool, I'd love to see one that turns into a Lake Freighter, their gimmick could be that they're constantly singing mournful songs about various Great Lakes shipping disasters.

Just realized the Battle Beast one could've worked if they changed the lion-man into a crab. Not a crab-man, just a robotic crab - that can also transform into a humanoid like the usual ones.
My idea for the reasoning behind this would be that he/she turns into a crab for defense, but when that fails, they call the drone 'shell' over and hop inside it to go into attack mode
Maybe those boats would be some kind of combiner, also I like that centaur and the VHS ravage, they would be very interising like having Transformers living inside of old statues (kinda similar like The Monument Mythos) or Soundwave becoming a VCR that for me would be like a halloween thing where Soundwave would be left behind and start hiding in a house with his cassettes disturbing the people
My first thought on seeing the tank-gun-thing is the Magnum figure from Micro Change, like maybe they were planning on porting that figure over and adding a gimmick in the form of combination with another, new figure?

The Transformer with the gun for a head reminds me of Lockdown from Age of Extinction. Remember, Lockdown had a gun that would cover his face in that Bayverse movie.

The videocassette idea goes back to Microchange, there was an unproduced prototype shown off a few years back, via the toys that made us.
10:51 eventually happened (in a way) the year later with Takara's VIDEO CHALLANGER gun, during airings of headmasters, you where encouraged to fire at the decepticons during the opening (who would flash white) and you could score points, they also released "adaptations" of various arcade games, ROAD AVENGER, Sega's AFTER BURNER that could all be "played" with that system (i.e, video footage of the arcade game with overlaid graphics).

The first of the ships kinda looks like it has combiner ports where the knee is
imagine if we actually got a combiner based on Battleship? Not just the namesake ship, but hasbro's Board game.

A revolver tank could be a cool design for another franchise, where a variety of crazy tanks was the central idea. Also maybe that turbo teen concept was just the artist making a joke because they knew their head design wouldn't be final yet?
The green toy that had interactivity with a gun looks as if it came straight out of the Bay movies. It even predicted Lockdown's "headgun".

What if Soundwave instead was turned into a Camcorder? Moving from audio to visual and perhaps even getting a new name in the process. Also that first art of Prime reminds me of Ga-Orn from The Brave of Legend Da-Garn.
Maybe reflector could have merged with sound wave as a combiner to be the camcorder.

The aircraft carrier bot is based on a class of Soviet aircraft carriers/battlecruisers.
Specifically, the Kiev-class.
Honestly, it's an awesome design. I wish we could gotten more warship Transformers
5:49 I could see a timeline where Ravage was given a G2 toy that turned into a VHS tape.
The Animal x Vehicle concepts at the end reminded me of the Kamen Rider Build gimmick with the organic and inorganic halves.
The torsos of the first and third shipformer look just like Tidal Wave's.
Soundwave with a VCR alt mode could be part of a video surveillance system.
And for the tankformer that combines with a revolver: might have been aimed at gun enthusiasts to combine with their real guns...
You don't really have gun enthusiasts in Japan, plus there were no adult collectors in the 80s to market that toward. More likely it was a cap gun.

I have the Optimus and Bumblebee transforming DVD cases for the first 2 Michael Bay movies. Really upset they didn't continue the trend, it was the only reason I bought either of those movies.

Some of the designs at the beginning look cooler than all of G1 IMO. It's hard to believe these are 80s designs.
Turbo Teen should be the next crossover figure. Or Inspector Gadget's car. I agree,a Takara version of Rock Lords would have been cool.

Also prototype Flywheels and Gundam looking guy looks cool. The Gundam looking one looks too been a space ship plus maybe a boat or a landing pad. Also Helicopter-van looks like a white hoist ngl, also the legs are helicopter, given the feet. I would be happy with toys of the Gundam looking one and White Hoist, white hoist being an autobot would be cool

Honestly the humanoid Brainmaster, looks like Aumuro from Gundam with the figure looking like a Guncanon, likely this was very late with victory-brave bending stuff where it could work on both ends, like the car being a docking vehicle into an Airplane to which would make it transform, Given this I assume it would have been Zone or late Victory, like possibly Star Saber's kid grown up in the Zone era and if the Zone Anime happened would have featured this design. Honestly I can dig it, I'd buy it.
VHS Light Transformer, is pretty cool, a gimmick Transformer that would likely have been forgotten similar to the Kronoformers, Deluxe insecticons, the Tyco characters, and a lot of late G1 stuff that would be pretty cool

That Skin Pretender is also extremely weird wtf, imagine the damage after years of play though, you would see the soft plastic begin to crack and deteriorate, and it would just look like a knockoff Terminator toy, like what was mentioned.

THAT'S the one I was on about in a reply to a post above! It featured a robot/train and other weird transforming toys, which could combine with the main robot. The show would give points if you could transform, shoot or combine at the right time and it came out around 2003?

That first image is the secret inspiration for Lioconvoy. VCR cassettes could of been the Junkion version of Soundwave and Blaster, would of been in theme for them at the time.
