One concept I remember seeing was back when they were working on Power of the Primes. We were supposed to have gotten full figures of the 13 Primes that would have dismantled into armour for the 'normal' figures to wear. obviously different to what we ended up with. we only have sketches of Rodimus wearing some of the armour.

Yeah I realize that sounds awesome but it would also probably have been really impractical, so I can see why it went nowhere. I mean, look at the modulators from WFC. They don’t do the armor thing very convincingly and that’s _without_ having to represent thirteen of the most important figures in transformers lore in another mode.

A lot of American horror movie characters are extremely popular in Japan. Robert Englund himself appeared as Freddy Krueger in a Japanese sketch show, the anime SKET Dance had shot-for-shot recreations of moments from Texas Chainsaw Massacre (even though the character doing them was named "Jay-san"), and the creator of Berserk (RIP) was afraid he was gonna get sued because Guts seemed so similar to Ash Williams.

A toy that can be both Megatron and Galvatron? That sounds a lot like what the Power of the Primes Leader class toys were doing. Honestly though I didn't even realize that was a Galvatron, it looked to me like Megatron and Shockwave as a combiner.
There was also a concept for G1 Triple changer that would of had a vehicle and a beast mode. There were a couple of them and I think they were actually released as Diaclone toys but for some reason those molds never made it into Transformers. Speaking of Triple changers that were released in other toy lines... Animorphs actually had some Triple changing figures. That toy line really didn't do very well though and maybe that's why they never made it into Transformers... except that if they didn't do that in Transformers because the Animorphs toy line tanked then they COMPLETELY misunderstood why those toys weren't selling. The human kid modes on those figures were just terrible looking. The only Animorphs toys I ever got didn't have human forms at all. I loved the figures that DIDN'T transform into human children. The toys could never quite pull off a human form with all the beast mode kibble hanging off them and the sculpting on their faces you couldn't even tell who they were suppose to be. If they retooled those same molds into Transformers so that the human parts are now robot parts they would have actually sold. Especially the Triple Changers because that's a concept a lot of kids I knew were expecting to see at some point in Transformers but just hated the Animorphs toy line.
And yes, I really wish we would have gotten Transtech... There's a couple interesting concepts with Transtech... the vehicle modes weren't just futuristic vehicles but actually still had a Technorganic element to their designs like Cheetor having visible Cheetah spots all over his car mode. There's also the fact that they were bringing back a lot of characters from both G1 and Beast Wars... for example Transtech Optimus and Megatron were the G1 characters in new bodies, they weren't bringing back the Beast Era versions who died at the end of Beast Machines they would have stayed dead but the original G1 name sakes would of come back to lead the Maximals and Predacons/Vehicons... whatever they were going to call them for that series. There was also a concept for Depth Charge who died in Beast Wars so they were going to have to explain how he came back to life. It would of been technically the first time we'd be seeing G1 and BW characters interacting with each other... and I mean with both being main characters interacting on a regular basis and not just a guest star so Starscream and Ravage don't really count. They're more like teasers for what we could of gotten in Transtech. And Transtech Starscream is G1 Starscream in a new body so he should also have memories of Possession. Starscream did mention he'd be back at the end of Possession but then we never saw him again. Maybe Transtech could of continued that story with Transtech Starscream being a main character rather than a one off guest star.

  • @strikerevimus
    @strikerevimus 3 года назад +6

Not all of the concepts for Transtech were left on the floor, as I remember seeing concepts for tiny little robots that would have entered into the fray and caused quite a stirr with the Maximal/Autobots and Predacon/Decepticons. If that sounds familiar, it's because, as I remember the caption saying on the storyboard, it said "Coming of the Minicons." Yes, the Minicons were to have been introduced in Transtech, NOT Armada. How that would have worked, I have no idea, but it would have been fun and interesting... Speaking of the flop of Beast Machines...
I believe that the reason the line flopped was not entirely due to the design of the toys. Though by this time fans were demanding show accuracy, especially shown with how the Transmetals, Fuzors and Transmetal 2s were some of the most show accurate designs, at least, of the characters who became those in the show. So, the fact that the toys lacked that crucial bit with some exceptions that did go show accurate being... well, you reviewed one of the ones you considered the top five worst TF toys for a reason... At any rate, I believe that the main fault was how the characters were characterized. Even the actors, Scott McNeil included as he's said in several panels, knew that such a radical change to most of the characters wasn't going to go over well. Scott even recounted that the directors said it wouldn't matter and didn't care, which for him, really hurt. Now, the show itself is actually really good, and if I take it as an alternative universe with a different version of the Beast Wars, then yes, I can see it as being top five quality Transformers shows. But given how the directors didn't care about continuing the characters as we knew them, and we could tell how little they cared. That, I believe, is why Beast Machines flopped with the backlash. At least, the main reason it flopped. Speaking of a flop...
I remember there being additional Fuzor concepts, though I never actually saw them, I may have heard of them. That, and knowing the commercial tagline said that more would come, I know there were more, and I would have loved to see what these concepts were. It's a shame that we only got the eight that we have, nine if you count Tigerhawk, as the Fuzors were a cool idea. Shame that most 90s kids didn't seem to think so... Or... maybe the reason was oversaturation now that I think about it? At the time, I forget from who it was that had the Jurassic Park license at the time, but that toyline had something called Chaos Theory as a subline where the idea was chimera dinosaurs. It seemed to me, now that I think about it, Fuzors was Beast Wars attempting to capitalize on that, but I'm certain other toylines must have attempted mash-ups at the time and with so many... (The 90s were crazy, for those who didn't live through them or don't remember those years.)

Imagine a Decepticon who not only acts as a mole in the Seekers to keep an eye on Starscream, but will occasionally take his master's place to keep his enemies confused. The universal monsters are unusual, but no more so than the Star Wars or Marvel crossovers. I've seen them or characters based off them in multiple shows (e.g. Kamen Rider Kiva). as to the Megatron/Seeker Fusion (whether it be Starscream/Skywarp/Whoever)
From a Real World Perspective , Megatron 'always' needs a new alt mode and depending on where this design was created in relation to the Media I could see a setting where the Core Decepticons are a team of 5 Jets (Megatron and 4 Seekers) and like Beast Wars he's a distinct character who simply shared his name with the 'Legend' (and again like BW the limited characters and models simplifies animation) and to sell toys beyond the core Team have the rest Toys appear in spot light episodes and/or as background characters
    - alternatively thein-Universe Logic about why a Seeker has a "Megatron Mode"... perhaps Supreme Commander Megatron is doing an 'Undercover Boss' bit with one of his 'platoons' OR the Real Megatron is incapacitated, and Starscream (ever the usurper) Gives himself a Megatron Mode and Pretends to be 'The Bot behind the Curtain' issuing orders remotely and making token appearances to create the illusion the real Megatron still functions

The Skywarp/Megatron triple-changer would've been AWESOME, and could've fit into the G1 storyline with relative ease. Fanfic writers have written stories in which Decepticons dissatisfied with Galvatron's rule, clone Megatron to overthrow Galvatron and lead them in the failure's place. Hasbro could've made Skywarp one such Decepticon, harboring Megatron's spark within his body, the way Quirrell harbored a portion of Voldemort's soul in 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' (retitled 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' in the US, for some Godforsaken reason).

They legally couldn't use the name "omegatron" for that megatron /Galvatron concept because back in the 80s there was another robot toy line that had a black and red repaint of the omega supreme toy which was the leader of that lines bad guys and it was called "omegatron".

Beast Wars Optimus versus Beast Wars Megatron was like King Kong versus Godzilla in a side way. I think that's the reason of their animal forms.

I saw a cool concept for a tank mega for power of the primes.
Mega turned into his gun mode but turned into the g2 style green tank cannon

I knew about block town but never saw that massive aircraft carrier trailer thing before. That makes me really upset that the line never happened. Transtech on the other hand remains a concept that still dream will be revived one day. If only.

#10. Megatron/Galvatron. Sell the body armor as a an upgrade kit separately?
#10 part 2. Same as above with one of them or both getting the other as an upgrade kit.
#9. The same outcome to trying to bring back the movies for them and the first movie is Tom Cruise's The Mummy.
    #8. This is self explanatory.
#7. Reverse pretenders. Have Transformers that become armor for humans and/or animals. This with either clones of the original people or further generations of them. (Clones from C.O.B.R.A.)
#6. There was a toy line and cartoon for a group of transformers but of dinosaur skeletons only. I don't remember any info.
#5. Like #10. as an upgrade kit.
#4. I like the idea. Buffalo dump truck.
#3. Block based armor or other accessories?
#2. Beast wars triple changers. Have one as the base and then have the other as being separate armor. That is the best I can come up with.
#1. Maybe as its own series in the future and with humans and/or animals in high tech armor?

We got a sort of triple changer in Beast Wars with two import figures, Ba-boom and Trans-skito both from Beast wars 2 in Japan. They were as TJ said ”iffy” third modes(I have Ba-Boom(a baboon) and he can shoot missiles out of his beast mouth in beast mode turn into a sort of "battle mount\station(?)" which was really his robot chest split front to back. It was a little more involved than the Transmetal "vehicle" modes. But, that was about it. A lot of Beast Wars 2 figures had "battle modes" which were silly and pointless.

Transquito was trying for a Antlion from the looks of things, but it's really hard to do triple changers with two organic modes.

If there’s in toy that almost happened that I would do anything to see in full form, it’s the Animated Megatron from season 4. A triple-changing Megatron with cues from G1 and Beast Machines in my favorite style? It was too pure for this world.

Seriously tho, that one Transtech Megatron design with the big bulky armor on it and what looked to be a massive ATV alt mode looked so much like a Gundam and I just love it. I totally don't see it as a Megatron, definitely more suited as another character, but still. Looks friggin metal

I think Animated Blurr could have been a bit of a reference to the TransTech line. And well, although it doesn't say it anywhere... doesn't Prime Soundwave look like he took some design cues from TransTech Depthcharge, especially the Beast Hunters figure?
