A modern grandus would honestly be hilarious. Just the mere thought of that big chungus having a modern toy possibly with like actual articulation cracks me up.
Hasbro/Takara made such a genius ploy; from what I've seen (mostly with Jakks Pacific stuff recently) I think other communities for toys would say that excessive redecoes/retools of old toys would be kind of lazy, but with the number of "obscure" alternate colors that exist Transformers has turned it into an art form.
I think IDW has a whole load of characters that would fit the bill. For example Quark, or Froid. The Necrobot too. Or if you want to get morbid, O'Nion as a headmaster for sunstreaker.
Hasbro is definitely doing the kind of obscure reprints that Fun Pub used to do. Part of it is fan service as the market becomes more collector focused. More obscure the better I say. Hope they keep it up. Weirdest character I think Hasbro may never do is Botanica from Beast Machines but I do hope one day they prove me wrong.
Considering they still do a healthy amount of popular characters I think it's perfectly reasonable and actually smart to do hyper obscure characters. They have a base to fall back on and the people who already have a few optimuses or bumblebees have fresh and fascinating characters to look at. Plus the best way to get out of the shadows Is a spotlight. I'm watching this video holding a modern Fangry and I don't care how little play he has, it feels awesome to have this. Transformers is such a varied universe. I'm all for letting it go nuts
I think the obscure characters make perfect sense for Legacy. And as for obscure characters, I won't rest until we get Hyperdrive. I'd kill for him to be a commander class for the Toxitron collection.
@@TornaitSuperBird I'd like to see all the Turbomasters get new toys. Hyperdrive is kind of a grail for me because the character never got a toy in the first place.

I'd love to see modern Triggerbots one day, especially Dogfight and Backstreet. And since we are getting modern Triggercons (Crankcase being a Skids retool, the upcoming Selects Windsweeper from the listings not long ago, that 100% will be a Needlenose retool, and possible Ruckus retool of the upcoming Beachcomber), I think that the new Triggerbots is just around the corner.
If Hasbro ever want to do another collaboration figure that’s also an obscure reference then they should do a Doctor Who collab to make a figure of Octus the Dalek Decepticon from Marvel UK.
Erial interests me (the first time the Prime Arcee mold has done so); Dion is another impressive retool of a very unimpressive mold. Would've preferred if they made Dion from Scraphook. When they start basing figures on animation errors (specifically the repaints from Five Faces of Darkness; would love that Dirge-colors Cyclonus), that's when Hasbro officially hits the bottom of the obscurity barrel. Everything else is fair game by comparison. I said this on a news video before, but it bears repeating- Hasbro is so confident in Rise of the Beasts doing well that they're banking on parents being willing to buy ANYTHING Transformers for their kids. Ergo, Evolution is getting weirder (where else would you see Lio Convoy, Tarn, Hot Shot, Animated Prowl, Crosscut, Metalhawk, and Twincast on shelves at the same time?) and Studio Series is handling both "better" (that's debatable) versions of the ROTB designs and High Moon Studios games designs so that "evergreen" guys like Optimus and Bumblebee are available for both us turbo-nerds and for kids who just want a Bee or a Prime. It's feeding us fans stuff we've wanted for years and providing gift-givers with only a vague sense of familiarity with the brand a wide variety of options to choose from.
Traditionally they redid dion out of hotshot. and considering we have a new hotshot mold i totally expected it. but i am surprisingly happy with the kup mold. I am expecting to get another prime arcee and bulkhead mold in another year or two. they know people weren't happy and hasbro loves selling you a better version of your character again. and again. and again. lol
Anything is indeed possible! 🤩 PS. Emirate Xaaron was given an unsaid homage in the form of the FOC Ruination combiner head. Keep up the excellent work! 👏
Tbh, as a fan base, we love obscure characters, plus even if someone doesn't know the franchise well, a lot of obscure characters can bank on the 'rule of cool'. Also, I wish hasbro would stop using the earthrise seeker mold, it sucks
part of it is the creativity and uniqueness given to the characters. They really hit on the repaints early in the g1 career and have continued ever since. It's not a troop builder or a purple star scream, it's a whole new character with now motivations and powers and personalities. so every figure repaint becomes a unique troop builder. if that makes any sense.

I'd like to see how they'd handle guys like the six armed guy "octus" from one UK exclusive issue of the marvel comics. Solely because of the sixarms and the fact he wasn't even actuallyg iven an altmode, just had an implied one that could have been a few different things. He's also part of a three guy group that have similarly interesting designs so there's potential for it to be a 3 pack.

There's a particularly obscure character that I'm completely flabbergasted we still haven't gotten is Guiltaur/Gilthor, the concept of a combination of Megatron and Optimus is such a money printing machine that I can't believe they haven't done in toy form yet. Also, judging by how inevitable G1 SKyquake is now and considering how Motormaster does seem to have potential to be used as the basis for a new Thunderclash...they could end up making a Turbomasters Combiner who could have Hyperdrive as their combined mode, who by the way, as per his concept art, HAS THE TRUCK FRONT AS HIS LEGS LIKE MOTORMASTER.
personally, after seeing dorito jazz, I now absolutely demand a new Electro. hell, make it an extensive remold of Scraphook, just to be evil for the sake of being evil. the guy suffered far more than enough, he needs a breack from being the ones that breacks on a similar note, a weaponizer Autobot X, even without the updated transformation, would be a fun addition that, while not as obscure as others, still never got a full chance. Armada Sideways has gotten pretty heavy as an absence; with the animated prowl mold, a bit of rework of the chest, the wrist-cannon as 5mm port weaponry, the minicons as either modified titanmasters (and forgoing the spring gimmick in favor of a manually switchable insigna), or a new headmaster mold, and the guy is ready. hell, if it's the former I offer of drawing them the production studies myself if it would get the toy made! a special set Grandius would be fantastic. not even a full-on trnasformers, just a playset that moves the arms and faceplants would be hillarous and I'm ready to bet, it would sell out of being a exposition piece

Obscure characters I hope to see are toy only characters or IDW designs from Bayverse for SS. Like Divebomb, Reverb, Gunbarrel, Tankor, Incinerator, etc.
I actually prefer the obscure and WTF Transformers. We've gotten a million Optimus Prime and a million BumbleBees not much to get excited for. They still all generally look and feel the same too. Tho no one ever expected a brand new original Jhiaxus sculpted figure to be released at mainline. Hell most of us didn't even know who he was. Those are the characters that get me excited and make me fall deeper into Transformers lore. Even the out landish / obscure paint deco is refreshing gives the mold a newer feel. Technically it's the second Guardian homage we got. In Energon Omega Supreme was recolored into Omega Sentinel, which was in the Guardian Robot colors. Come to think of it, G1 Grandus is functionally the same as the GoBots Command Center and Thruster, just with the added play value of interconnectivity with not only Sky Garry and Star Convoy, but every Micromaster station, transport, or base that used the common ramp connector system.
Speaking of Hasbro doing things at retail that feel like BotCon releases... surprised you got through this entire video without mentioning Shattered Glass because that was originally a BotCon thing that Hasbro kept going at retail after BotCon ended. Something I doubt they would actually do but I would love if they went there... Take another crack at the Pre-Beast Wars figures. There's a couple Predacons who still don't actually have toys though designs for them do exist in the comics. There's also the fact that Hasbro could make far more accurate versions since they're not limited to repainting existing molds. I love what they did with that set but I'd really love to see a set of figures more intentionally designed to be those characters rather than having to make an existing mold work as something it was never meant to be.
I love these "obscure" Transformers the most! These are both retools again (Kup and Arcee) but they look pretty good. It looks like GameStop Canada isn't allowed to sell them until April 7, and I don't know about USA.
Not just obscure, hasbro has still been creating new transformers. And i'm not talking show specific characters. But we got new team members in Combiner Wars, we got the fossilizers, and now brand new junkions. I wasn't a fan of the fossilizers but i am enjoying all the junkions.
I think Hasbros just trying to milk G1 to the point where they have to give us the most obscure characters. Even the ones that only show up for one frame lol
SCROUNGE!!!!!! But, of course they had to make him out of a Cosmos mould, because in the comic (See 'The Smelting Pool' for his appearance) he basically transformed from robot into a rolling Frisbee! Still,,,,it's F**KING SCROUNGE, MAN!!!!!!! This made me VERY happy :D
Xaaron got an homage in the WFC/FOC Combaticons repaints: Wreckers ->Ruination I want, I NEED a Grandus redux! He was like the last G1 character made, ever. He’s a city bot! I’m still salty he wasn’t Micronus Prime’s colony ship.
I honestly don’t know if anything I want made into a toy is too obscure at this point, because it just feels like nearly everything on my wishlist is inevitable going to be made. There’s still a few that might not happen, but I’ll be fun without those.
I’d draw the line hard at japan-original late Decepticon leaders, like Violengiguar and Dark Nova/Star Giant, or otherwise one-off villains like Majin Zarak. At least with a G1 Skyquake basically guaranteed, that’s easily repurposed as Scrash for those so inclined!
I'm really hoping we manage to get a proper Jetstorm, to be honest. The new Cyclonus mold makes me feel like it's probably possible with just a few retools...
I’m hoping they do more beast wars figs, like spitter, polar claw, K9, etc.. maybe after the beast wars movie they will do a beast wars cartoon.. fingers crossed!
All this obscurity and we still don't have a good modern G2 Megs, while Animated and Prime fans can't get new toys of characters they love that actually look like them.
Something extremely obscure would be Micro change transformers never ported over in Dialman, Magneman, Beam Robo, and an homage to the revolver robo Alternatively Emeriate Xaron
If Hasbro is gonna go obscure with figs, I'd love for them to make a Aero-bot from the 2000s gobots line. Always loved that bot as a kid and wouls love to see it get the modern treatment
there are many more obscure characters to draw a line at over grandus. they could make the rescue force (beyond that selects set referencing them and the shuttle base in one swoop.) what if they gave us figures of Blasters siblings? Toaster, Bluster, and Carmin would be absurd to get.
I think some of the Japanese Beast Wars characters would fall under too obscure, at least for US release. If Hasbro was clever, they would import lots of 500 Japanese packages/characters to sell in HazLab. Or allow pre-orders with a cut-off date.
12:08 AH YEAH!!! SCREWHEAD GOT TO BE A POWER DASHER!!! SCREWHEAD IS A MEAN LITTLE AUTOBOT!!! Got a big old screw on his head. Screwhead gonna be like pow, pow, smack, pow, pow ... knocking bad guys down. They all be like, "Who are you?" - And I'll be like, "Screwhead."
Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't 'get' how many Diaclone repaints there are. Personally, they are rarely different enough to be cool and usually just look off instead.
What about Gaia herself? Unicron and Primus sister from the OG Botcon Shattered Glass run? Could be a potential remold of Unicron without the spiky bits and the maw.
Deceptitran from G1 episode Sea Change. They made a transformable figure out of the Quintesson Judge so there could be some kinda alt mode for Deceptitran.

Come to think of it, G1 Grandus is functionally the same as the GoBots Command Center and Thruster, just with the added play value of interconnectivity with not only Sky Garry and Star Convoy, but every Micromaster station, transport, or base that used the common ramp connector system.
He can also connect to Metroplex and Dai Atlas.
I really want Leo Prime repainted as Under 3 (Undermine). The Club did a mockup of the original Lio Convoy, and it looked great.
Xaaron got an homage in the WFC/FOC Combaticons repaints: Wreckers ->Ruination
I want, I NEED a Grandus redux! He was like the last G1 character made, ever.
He’s a city bot! I’m still salty he wasn’t Micronus Prime’s colony ship.
You will always find a fan who wants the something special. Like the takara machine robo repaints upgraded...
I really want an Emirate Xaaron. And Battle Gaia would be awesome!
I honestly don’t know if anything I want made into a toy is too obscure at this point, because it just feels like nearly everything on my wishlist is inevitable going to be made.
There’s still a few that might not happen, but I’ll be fun without those.
That Unused Artwork can be seen in the Legacy Artbook.
I wonder what would come first, a toy for Emirate Xaaron or a toy for Flame the disgraced Autobot scientist?
Grandus was remolded as a Brave robot in Dagwon.
Like how could we get a Devil Z? I think the Japanese stuff went off the rails.
I'm surprised we haven't gotten the Omnibots. I want my Overdrive.
This is the kind of unrevealed on leaked surprises that Hasbro could do with Power Rangers cosmic fury.
Of obscure characters, I wouldn't mind seeing more of the Brazilian characters
I don't get how this could have made it to a store for sale before it was even announced.
I think the most obscure they can go are the 13 Primes. Not those Prime Masters toys but the action robots.
I think starting the Transformers version with an E makes sense.
Something extremely obscure would be Micro change transformers never ported over in Dialman, Magneman, Beam Robo, and an homage to the revolver robo
Alternatively Emeriate Xaron
Raksha as a dragon snake (Queztaqualtul) and Night Racer as a sports car, do it, Hasbro.
Ah well at least they are doing Unicron trilogy now.
If Hasbro is gonna go obscure with figs, I'd love for them to make a Aero-bot from the 2000s gobots line. Always loved that bot as a kid and wouls love to see it get the modern treatment
It would be awsome to see hasbro do a figure of that yellow Tailgate but name him something like Splicer.
Personally I would like them to make a new Megabolt toy, which was compatible with the headmasters. Also make a retool for Dark Nova.
Selects has DEFINITELY taken over Botcon’s niche
there are many more obscure characters to draw a line at over grandus. they could make the rescue force (beyond that selects set referencing them and the shuttle base in one swoop.) what if they gave us figures of Blasters siblings? Toaster, Bluster, and Carmin would be absurd to get.
I think some of the Japanese Beast Wars characters would fall under too obscure, at least for US release. If Hasbro was clever, they would import lots of 500 Japanese packages/characters to sell in HazLab. Or allow pre-orders with a cut-off date.
I'm hoping for figures of G1 Freezon and RID Nightcruz.
Maybe also Beast Wars: Uprising Magna Stampede and Stockade as a Unicorn and armed Wagon duo.
Well this is just a curve ball of the mostly obscure characters one of which became a prominent character for one of the main characters.
Question that's completely pointless: Hows TF RollOut going?
12:08 AH YEAH!!! SCREWHEAD GOT TO BE A POWER DASHER!!! SCREWHEAD IS A MEAN LITTLE AUTOBOT!!!
Got a big old screw on his head.
Screwhead gonna be like
pow, pow, smack, pow, pow ...
knocking bad guys down.
They all be like, "Who are you?"
- And I'll be like, "Screwhead."
Scrounge! We need a new one. One we can find easily without paying through the nose. He turns into a wheel. It shouldn't be that hard
At this point I wouldn't be surprise if they retooled Haslab Unicron into Grand Galvatron
Nothing is too obscure! I don't need another Prime, Megatron on Sideswipe! Bring on the weird ones! Great work Hasbro!
My name in English is David so imagine my panic when he said the video is for me
Another obscure one would be Gaiacross, the Kabaya Gum Kit based on the Multiforce combiner Landcross! Maybe a Froid?
Give me ALL of the updated Diaclones, all the Welcoming Committee, and updated Omnibots! But I doubt they will ever give us Slugfest and Overkill.
It’s probably people like me that’s why they go obscure, I’m a sucker for characters who are one offs/obscure
Hey obscure characters are great for army building imo
Not obscure enough until we see some BWII hommages :p and I'm STILL waiting for an actual Nautica! >
I guess Hasbro just needs exclusives for retailers and their website
If/when Metroplex gets a new figure, I can see him being repainted into Grandus
Transformers 3D comics. We need this guys in toy form.
I'm still waiting for a Carnivac
Deceptitran from G1 episode Sea Change. They made a transformable figure out of the Quintesson Judge so there could be some kinda alt mode for Deceptitran.
