The revs staying at the perfect RPM in the next gear is part of auto rev matching. The auto rev match is not just on downshifts, it's on upshifts as well. My M3 had this and pretty much any auto rev match system has this implemented by this point. Makes lazy shifting in traffic a breeze but also significantly diminishes skill required for operating a manual transmission.
This was also on the 10th gen civics. I had a 2018 Sport Hatch with this and it was awesome.

This is going to be my daily driver/commuter car once dealers stop asking over sticker. I like the fact it’s less boy racer and more mature looking.

Totally agree, and it looks BMW-esk to me. I wasn't a fan of the styling before. 37mpg on the highway and a fun car is a pretty good combo.

Freaking love normal sedans in cool sport versions. The Civic is a nice commuter and so adding the SI means a commute to work becomes fun!

@@invalidusername_5101 drive this and then drive a Ford Fiesta (base). When you are talking about an affordable car, the difference of everything the SI has in is just a little more fun than a normal commuter. Obvi not comparing it to anything with substantial power.
@@invalidusername_5101 Fast and fun are not the same thing! With good steering, a good chassis, a good transmission, a well-sorted engine etc, a 200hp car can be plenty fun. It's a question of quality over quantity. My ~200hp 2010 Civic Type R is WAY more fun than my remapped 2013 285hp Renault Megane (turbo). The snappy throttle response of the Civic (lightweight 5kg flywheel from the factory) never gets old! :) Whereas the doughy throttle response of the Megane (silly 12kg dual mass flywheel + being turbocharged) and the way the engine sounds like a blender gets old fast. :(
With not much power and a LSD, you can get on the throttle very early without the wheel hop or wheelspin that turbocharged FWD sport compacts tend to have (the old Civic even has traction in first gear!). The 8th-gen Type Rs (both the lowly hatch I have as well as the proper Japanese market sedan) did have a little bit of different stuff (different cylinder head casting, that lighter flywheel I mentioned, different diff ratio etc) but overall they are pretty similar to the 8th-gen Civic Si. :)

I just bought a 2020 Civic Si Coupe today and I love it. Powerful car and fun car to drive. I had a 2018 Civic LX Coupe before and absolutely loved that car (that car is a 6 speed standard as well) but I love the Si even more. Glad I bought it. Awesome car.
The fake in-cabin exhaust noise sounds like a man in the back seat going “whooooooowaaaaa”

Love my 23 Si. Wouldn’t buy a car without watching your review first. Love everything about this car. Coming from a coyote mustang, you think I’d miss the power. But the handling, gas mileage, and practicality are amazing. Plus it’s a blast to drive. Flawless manual transmission!
Thinking of doing the same, I have a Mustang 2018 GT. Seriously considering this car. I prefer a good driving experience, not just power and numbers. Is it more comfortable than the Mustang? Anything you miss on the GT?
@@javierzapatarodriguez2068 great question. I was very hesitant to get rid of my 2017 mustang GT manual. I loved that car and it was a ton of fun. But I have more fun driving my civic si. It’s more comfortable than the mustang, the manual transmission is way better and the handling doesn’t even compare, feels like it’s on rails. It’s more practical, way better gas mileage and overall a more enjoyable driving experience. The only thing I miss about the mustang is the that beautiful V8 sound. You think I would miss the power of the V8 but the civic has plenty of power and again is more fun to drive. Never thought I’d say a 4 cylinder is more fun to drive than a coyote V8 but it truly is. If you do decide to go for the Civic Si I guarantee you will be happy with your decision and won’t ever miss your mustang.
The relationship you guys have will never get old. Should do a review disguised as older versions 20 years from now.

I'm still driving my 2014 civic si with 209,000 miles and love it.
Canadian version is so much better than the American. We don’t get the shift light, full digital dash, heated seats or steering wheels and mirror turn indicators. Such a disappointment
And it costs more when you account for the currency conversion.

@@bradava1 yup, those too. Not really a deal breaker for me, i don’t think heated seats are needed with cloth as much as it would be with leather. Heated steering wheel is the only option i really wish we got. Everything else is slightly disappointing because we know Canada gets it, but if it was just standard equipment on all models it would be fine. It’s still a sub 30k car

I'm glad Honda made this car so uniquely Honda. The sounds and rowdy 90s noises. That outside sound of slapping limiter makes me think it's 2002 again and I hear ek civics doing burnouts. Also I'll stand by Honda as long as they make such good manuals. Best in class. This car is peak fun daily driver. I want nothing else. I don't mind the audio, civic si when I was a kid was always ridiculously loud and childish and I love that. Just slam those gears. Do cheeky burnouts going around corners.

@@akuma_mx5 yeah, that's pretty much the point. The type R is meant to be a hyper aggressive version of the Si. They're always eye catching cars. They look sema-esque stock. If they get rid of the big spoilers, lips, & diffusers, it will just be an Si with a better engine. I wouldn't pay premium for that at all.

SEE! THIS is why I tweeted at you guys asking if you were going to review it. ONLY ones to check the exhaust sound, ONLY ones to mention rev limiter (that I noticed out of the 8 reviews I watched) I had no idea! ONLY ones to actually talk about the heel toe properly (it was bad in the previous gen imo). Correct me if I'm wrong but did I hear a little pop in the exhaust? Great review as always. I was hoping the new si would come with a little more power like 220hp but is what it is. I guess I'll wait for the Type R before I sell my 2019 si.
Hey hey! A 2013 Ford Focus does a similar upshift revhang. Manufacturers slip little things into electronic throttle tuning to make daily driving a manual a little easier. Though I don't love it from an enthusiast perspective, I can certainly appreciate it.
I own a tenth gen si . This one looks great! a little underpowered (might just be underrated by Honda and if not, nothing a tune can’t fix) hope they fix the clutch issues from the last generation. I also Wish the heated seats were available in US, but overall looks like an amazing driving experience and daily.
Lack of U.S options is definitely a deal breaker for me. Great review guys!!

Just put a $1000 deposit on a rally red Si today, delivery early April. Paid manufacturer sticker price.
Don’t let the cabin noices distract you from the fact that its actually coming from Hector running 3 Honda Civics with spoon engines And on top of that he just came into Harry's and he ordered 3 T66 turbos, with NOS, and a Motec system exhaust.

Aside from performance, I’ll dare to say that the design look a bit pedestrian. The front is fine, by itself but the overall styling is a shade too subdued. But, that doesn’t mean it’s poorly designed - it’s well balanced, proportioned, clean lines. Just my opinion as someone in the ID industry.

People like me who want this in colder climates are green with envy about the heated seats and steering wheel you guys get.
My BMW M2 CS manual also hangs at the exact right RPM for the next gear before continuing to drop. It ensures zero wear on the clutch and synchros when you are just cruising around taking it easy.

I have an 2019 Si right now and as expected its been a great car, high fun factor with zero issues. It would have been nice to see more power in the new one but I prefer the new looks to mine (I got my Si in black just so I could hide all the vents and creases). My next car may be my last manual but at least there will be some options (for the foreseeable future anyways). I have the Type R, Integra Elantra N, WRX/STI and Golf R on my list
The new one does have more power, check out Hondata and prl did a dyno on the stock 11thgen si, honda underrated the car hp
@@the_batmobile0.4 yes I did read Hondata's findings about potential underrated power by Honda. It will be interesting to see the new measured performance times when compared to mine. I expect official numbers to come out soon.

2019 Si owner here too and I prefer the looks to last gen compared to the 2022. Will eventually test drive for fun soon.

As a 2012 non si civic owner, if I wanted another sedan it would be between this and a 2021 wrx. My civic has gone 135,000 problem free miles and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another.

@@william2glaser227 it’s the realest manual I feel like Honda has put out in a while. I love the auto rev match and the interior exhaust sound. I think it’s a great fit for the car and it expresses its new generation very well.

I’m upset Honda didn’t make the rims very different, however they did make the SI wheels matte black where the Sport is gloss black. It’s a small detail but they could’ve done better

Sad about the difference between the Canada and USDM versions. I live up north in the US and could certainly use those Canada-only features... but I will make do. This car is too sick to pass up.
you guys get the heated steering wheel because it is so cold everywhere in Canada in the winter and most of spring in some parts. we only get 3 to 4 months of of fairly cold in most of America. It makes sense. I don't really care for a heated steering wheel here in KC as it is almost never that cold that the car doesn't warm in a few minutes of driving.

Great review; really like the civic lineup. The si is a perfect drivers car here in the US it’s a few thousand less can’t beat the price. Been buying civics and accords forever no need for Acura
They did a good job but they really need to differentiate more from the normal Civic, although it doesn't cost much more these days

I think we're at a point where the Si at 200 HP isn't exciting anymore. I know it's fun to drive, but the Si used to be a "tier" above the standard 4 banger, but now it's kind of just one of them. That's probably why the Type R came back and has remained relatively successful.
Nah, the key is that it's always been fun to drive and Honda always makes light cars so you make the classic noob mistake and only look at horsepower when real car enthusiasts look at horsepower to weight ratio, handling, and track times. You're a noob by only looking at 0-60 times.
This thing would get smoked by my 2013 focus st. If you're buying a civic for power you already fucked up.
@@ryanw5584 shit not necessarily lol. If this thing can be tuned then easy this is a great throw around track car. I would put much past a focus RS/ST as far as pushing it with HP as much , that wasn’t really a thing . Aftermarket support for civics? Always has and will be a supported vehicle.
@@1Raunchy please look into the support for the RS and ST. You'd be surprised, I'm currently pushing 310 whp and 350+ lb/tq with full bolt on and a tune. Thing would demolish this 200hp Si. You'd need a tune, fbo, and probably a bigger turbo. I like the look of these new Civic Si, and on a budget sure it might be a good buy. But I paid 25k for a fully loaded ST in 2013 and I'm at 125k miles with 0 issues, which is really lucky for a ford lol
@@ryanw5584 lol if you knew about civics a bit more you can probably take the whole motor out easy and possibly throw a bigger turbo on it with a good tune easy. With it still being reliable. Hondas always have been that way. I’ve seen single cams push almost 800-1k . Now it being a 1.5 does scare me a bit but it can push well over the 200 it comes from the factory with , it’s begging to be tinkered with .
This is probably the most fun daily for the money, I have a wrx performance pack and I would love to have a go with this car. Trying to convince my friend to get one of these.

It’s not it for me. I liked the shape of the last gen sedan more. I think this one has a better front end tho, but everything else doesn’t really mesh well IMO.

I drive my parents civic sport. Nice car actually. Eyeing a GR86 but for less $$ this seems solid.
Ya for the price differential you could do full bolt ons and a tune for the civic and be nearly as quick as a gr86
Too find a Gr86 @msrp though….. I wasn’t considering this car at first but the reviews seem great. Still want the gr but it will probably be hard to find one without the markups
