The added benefit of this comedy belongs to the artist. He gets the satisfaction of knowing that at least 80 percent of the people in that room won't get this tune out of their heads for some time, and will probably drive their families crazy humming, whistling or even singing it.

My understanding is that Victor Borge got started with going almost pure comedy when he was playing a serious concert, and as he was doing a routine trill on the piano, he looked out at the audience, winked at them, and kept playing. The resulting guffaws convinced him to do full-on comedy, although he would also pull pranks on unsuspecting listeners, even as a child prodigy: He would play one of his own pieces, and attribute it to Beethoven or Brahms or whomever. His parents knew all along that this was one of Victor's tunes, but they didn't want to embarrass the guests who listened to him, that they had no clue it wasn't one of the masters! That alone makes Borge one of the greats!

I have played the violin and I know how complex it is to make it sound listenable, even when we hold the violin in it's normal position, not to mention those many different odd positions where he makes it sound very well, without getting confused by losing the emplacement of the different strings when changing their directions.
