      Another thoughts about it, Rob! You replace the Viper's strap button to the top of the horn, Matt's two beautiful custom ESP Vipers already has strap buttons on the top of the horn, so as his personal LTD sigs have, many of my mates, who played Vipers - all of them replaced the strap buttons to the top of the horn! Why ESP didn't make it a permanent part of the Viper's standard complectation? The top of Viper's upper horn is thick enough to hold the strap mount stably. In any case, they are thicker than on the Gibson SG's. And one good friend of mine, who played in a hardcore punk band for a long time, played there on the SG Standard, on which he also replaced the strap button to the top of the horn. There were no problems with it, the horn withstood everything perfectly - and this guy was very active on stage!

      if it needs a just a little bit more, you can use tape weights (used to balance tires) in the control cavity.

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  10 месяцев назад

      I don't know man! That's a good question! Perhaps Matt didn't think to request that option during the design phase.@@dexxpredwarior9033

    • @dexxpredwarior9033
      @dexxpredwarior9033 10 месяцев назад

      Probably! I forgot to mention Tony Iommi - His custom SG's also has strap mounts on the top of the horns, and his signature models also has it. I don't think that ESP's policy in this regard differs from the policy of Gibson. I rather meant why the ESP did not initially start doing this at all, given the technical characteristics of the Viper.@@RobArnoldWorld

    Ive never understood why manufacturers keep putting strap buttons in that back position, Its a huge cause for neck dive, plus it just makes wearing the strap uncomfortable. Theres been so many times where I've thought a guitar was just about perfect for me until I saw the strap button placement and then I avoided that guitar like the plague. You'd think manufacturers would figure this out by now but I guess not.

    I used to use finger nail polish as a touch up on guitars. There's usually a bazillion colors to choose from and there's a good chance you can find a color that is close to matching. Plus it has a built in brush so its easy to use.

    I have an old version Ibanez Xpt700 (also known as xiphos), it had a severe neck dive issue so i changed both of the strap buttons location and it worked perfectly. Ibanez also changed it in the newer models. Some people tries adding counterweight in the electronics cavity, or get a strap with better grip. I've tried them all but changing the strap button location works the best.

    Followed every step on this vid. This helped me fix the neck dive on my old Mk1 Ironbird where the top strap pin was on that same part of the horn as Rob's SG here. However, I moved the pin to the inside of the curve of the horn (at the center of the inside of the horn's curve radius, like how some Jackson Warriors have their strap pins there or slightly off-center of the inside of the horn's curve), NO MORE NECK DIVE 🤟

  • @horse80hun

    I had the same issue with my LTD Viper 100. However, that one had a bolt-on neck, so then one of the neck bolts was replaced by a slightly longer bolt and then the strap button was simply moved there.
    It was not 100% perfect but much better than before + you didn't have to drill into the body which is a risky move as it could damage the body for good.

    My main guitar has always been an Ibanez ASX which is a SG style double cutaway. It has neck dive but also has the peg on the horn already. I use straploks but I even pulled the entire thing out screw and all! It has been repaired and played many shows and today I decided to look into fixing neck dive. Safe to say I am going to buy some fishing weights! LOL! Wish me luck.

    1. Put tape on edge.
    2. Measure width with ruler and mark center for hole.
    3. Put tape on top.
    4. Rule line for drill angle.
    5. Measure depth of screw.
    6. Mark depth on drill bit.
    7. Slowly drill hole. Do not move drill in and out as this can widen and deform the hole.
    8. Hand drill the larger hole to avoid drilling beyond the original hole. Do not move drill in and out.
    9. Remove tape.

    Any of Gibson's more "radical" designs (SG, V, Explorer) could basically benefit from going headless. I think ESP doing 24-fret versions, makes the point of balance even worse on the guitars.

    That strap button placement is the Tommy Iommy mod. I think those Dimarzio straplocks look ugly. Grolsch beer bottle cap rubbers work just as well, are way cheaper and you get the bear for free. Fender copies them and you pay four dollars for four of them without the beer.

    Does Matt mind the neck dive ? Because if he does, why didn't he design the guitar to come stock with the strap button placed the way you placed it ? This leads to my next question : how was it designing the RA600 ? I mean beyond the fact that you might have been stocked to become a signature artist, did ESP said no to some features you asked for or was it your dream guitar in every way ? Were any compromises made ? Cheers !

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  10 месяцев назад

      No compromises were made, and ESP allowed us to design the guitars exactly as we wanted. Matt probably didn't think about the strap button placement at the time. And with my RA-600, there's probably a thing or two I overlooked during the design process as well. But hey, you live and learn! It's like building your first home, or building your first studio...
      The second one you build will almost always be better, because of the knowledge and experience you gain from the first build!

    • @pideuhweuh8459
      @pideuhweuh8459 10 месяцев назад

      @@RobArnoldWorld Sure, I own a custom guitar which suffers the same issue, I overlooked some stuff that mattered more than I thougt+ I actually didn't know enough about guitars at the time to come with my perfect design. This lead into a bridge pickip to close to the bridge which make the guitar too bright for my liking and I end up not playing it at all. Probably the worst 3k I spent in my life. ESP seems like a great company to team up with, a fixed bridge RA-600 would pretty much be what I'd design if I had the same opportunity as you.
