Your content just keeps getting better and better. Love all the guitar-maintenance related videos. So much useful information presented in such a clear, easy to understand and friendly way. Keep going man!
Greatest thing I ever did was using a dremel with a wool felt polishing bit and some Frine fret polish. Takes about 10 seconds per fret. Saves me so much time and frets are sparkling afterwards.
I like to give my frets a 2-step polish by first polishing them with Frine fret polish and then following up with 8000 grit polishing paper. The frets are very slick and shiny afterwards. They also seem to oxidize less between string changes. On a side note, I tried the String Stretcha and it really helped me. Thanks for the suggestion, Rob! 👍
That fret polishing kit sure did the trick Rob. I never thought that frets could get that dirty. And I could see that your fret board as taken a beating over the years with the indents.
I've got the Nomad Frine polishing kit. I noticed they looked shinier afterwards, but the playing didn't really feel like drastically different. Bending was a bit easier, like i wasn't fighting it as much, I say fighting because of the absolute monster strings on that guitar. I had 13-60 for drop c on a gibson scale.
I use the same polish. I recommend following up with some 8000 grit polishing paper after using the Frine polish. The frets should be even slicker and shinier. As far as those strings you've got, you remind me of myself, lol. I LOVE the feel of heavy strings.
Wow, those were some dirty frets! Looks like that kit works really well. You can even see the light shining off them when you’re playing at the end. I think Stew Mac sells those little metal fret protector things if you ever need just those.
That's a George Lynch custom! The ESP GL-56. It's incredible! You can hear me talk more about it in this video if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/gDqWOg1D0DI/видео.html
Never polished frets before?😱 You pampered Sonna bish! I KID!😆 Hey just a heads up since it’s your first time, inspect your fret guards if you’re using the ones that came in the kit. I learned the hard way, many of the cheaper fret guards will have one side that is smooth, and the other side will have a small ridge. Make sure the smooth side is down against the fretboard when you polish so it doesn’t chew into your fretboard. First time I did it, I used the rough side down and it left lines on like 4-5 of the frets before I realized it. Luckily, it was an old cheap Squire when I did it. Would be tragic if that happened to one of the custom shops. The guards that came in the kit might be better quality where both sides are smooth like they’re supposed to be, but double check next time use them. The ones that I had back when I was 15 or so came from a super cheap maintenance kit and totally left some chew lines on my fretboard. For the longest time I used fine gauge steel wool which works great, but leaves quite a bit to clean up, and you have to make sure the metal flakes don’t get near your pickups… kind of a hassle. I’m actually about to make a video on that nomad “Freen” polishing kit. Would love to try that kit next. They appear to be a lot like fret erasers. Fret erasers also work pretty great, i just don’t like how they’re shaped. They feel awkward to hold when polishing. Those being a paper/cloth feel, seem way better. Anyway, turned out great!
Great tip! Man that seems like poor design.... having a ridged or rough side to something that's supposed to not leave any type of foot print. Sheesh Yeah let us know about the Nomad kit! I'll look forward to your video!
nice job man, looks good. I use something called the Miracle Cloth. You should try it you only have to go over the frets once and don't need a neck protector
Dropped my Ibanez on its face a couple years back and dented 3 of the frets, meaning certain strings buzz when played in certain places.. could this kit help me restore the frets/remove the dings/dents? - or is this a mostly a "cosmetic" treatment?
StewMac has a fret kit, I think it’s called a fret polishing kit. I’m gonna use it and a couple other tools Music Is Win used in his guitar setup and cleaning video, and get my Schecter Omen 6 ready for sale. Once that sold, I’ll hopefully be getting my hands on an(used) ESP LTD M-100FM 😎
If those frets aren’t steel, they could be nickel. My dad has had his guitar tech service the fretboard on his ‘68 Telecaster; my dad told me you really can’t service steel frets and file them down or something like that?
Dude I just found a LTD JD-600 (Jon Danais from Shadows Fall signature)from 2008 yesterday. I just went through it this morning and used this exact polishing method and it worked well. I've been jamming on it all day and haven't done anything productive hahahahah 😅 beast of a guitar. Now my collection would be completed if I can find a RA-600.
Cool vid, Rob. I too have never polished my frets. I’ve been hesitant due to concerns of damaging my ebony fretboards. If you like the way it turned out and it seems to make a difference for you than maybe I need to take a shot of courage and give it a try. 😃 You’ve never steered my wrong so far. 👍😍🫵 you are awesome. Have a great week.
Yeah no worries on the fret board, as the fret guard prevents contact. And honestly, this polishing paper is so fine, that I wouldn't even worry about it damaging the fret board. I wouldn't say the whole process is necessary in the grand scheme of things, but it's like having your car detailed after having it washed. The detailing isn't necessary, but it sure is nice😉👌

Great tip!
This is rad! I do guitar cleaning and fret polishing as a side hustle and it's so fun and relaxing to do.
Agreed!
I have fret erasers for polishing. Like a rubber sandpaper. 160 to 8000 grit.
I like to give my frets a 2-step polish by first polishing them with Frine fret polish and then following up with 8000 grit polishing paper. The frets are very slick and shiny afterwards. They also seem to oxidize less between string changes.

Thanks for tuning in, and for sharing some good info!🎸
I’ve bought 2 of these kits now and they work so well.
Nice!
when using my fretboard guard I like to use a hair tie round the back of the neck looped onto the guard to hold it in place and free up my hand
Nice tip!
That fret polishing kit sure did the trick Rob. I never thought that frets could get that dirty. And I could see that your fret board as taken a beating over the years with the indents.
I agree! I never expected them to be that bad!
Polishing frets is a must for me now. Bends aren't scratchy afterwards, the guitar feels faster and I swear it even sounds better
"Scratchy"... I know what you mean!
I've got the Nomad Frine polishing kit. I noticed they looked shinier afterwards, but the playing didn't really feel like drastically different. 👊
Man I love this guitar maintenance series you've got going on Robbo.
Thanks! May I ask, what does J.H stand for?
@@RobArnoldWorld my name. Josh Hardy.
@@WholeLottaBulldog Ahh thanks! I wondered if you were an old friend of mine, John Hall
Yeah, it's worth the money. It's a must have. Strings will glide nicely when doing bends. 🤘😀
What youre getting off the frets is oxidisation. Common for nickel frets, which i presume they are since they're not stainless
I use mothers wax to polish my frets . makes them super smooth and protected from any kind of corrosion.
Hey Rob, to get the groove out, you have to do a fret level.
Wow, those were some dirty frets! Looks like that kit works really well. You can even see the light shining off them when you’re playing at the end. I think Stew Mac sells those little metal fret protector things if you ever need just those.
For sure!
Dude that guitar...I need. That's basically a Peavy Rockmaster headstock, my favorite stock. Wonder wich came first?

Is there any way i could buy the making of the infection album? i own the cd, just would love to watch the making of.
Unfortunately no. Eventually I hope to upload it to my channel for everyone to enjoy. But currently, the record label is preventing that.
@@RobArnoldWorld I understand. Thank you for replying. Love your channel.

I'm definitely doing this. My oldest guitar I've had for a good 25+ years. The frets are dull, divots in a few places. Good tutorials!
Awesome!
nice job man, looks good. I use something called the Miracle Cloth. You should try it you only have to go over the frets once and don't need a neck protector
Interesting!
I know you have to create a variety of content, but I would love to see more VHS footage of Chimaira.
Noted!
Dropped my Ibanez on its face a couple years back and dented 3 of the frets, meaning certain strings buzz when played in certain places.. could this kit help me restore the frets/remove the dings/dents? - or is this a mostly a "cosmetic" treatment?
I'd say it's mostly a cosmetic treatment. But I suppose it depends on how bad/deep your dents are.
Sounds like you may need your frets dressed.

steel wool works well too
