I’m trying to figure out how to listen to sound samples of different music man bass pickups for my schecter stiletto stealth but I want to one hundred percent make sure that it matches the output and everything about the one I have do you know any way to do that or what I jeeed to know about the pickup to make sure it’s the right one
That's the thing about pickups man... they're very hard to A/B and compare. And that's because you have to swap them out to do any tests. And then once you have, how do you compare? Unless you make recordings of each different pickup, it's often hard to truly make good comparisons. So I guess in your situation, the only advice I can give is to go ahead and make recordings, then compare those recordings, and see what you like best!@@creepymcpeepers
I definitely learned a few things that I was not aware of before. No. 1 why I love the ceramic humbucking pickup so much. For example the gold standard EMG 81 active pickup. Also the way you explained P-90 pickups which I honestly had no knowledge of before. I've seen those pickups played especially on Les Paul's by more Classic Rock Guitarist of late 1960s-early 1970s. That's all I got, much respect brother!
Iwas a pickup nerd for about 30 years. Nowadays, even chinese pickups for a 10th of the price, sound just as good. 30 years ago I was hours busy recording Steve Specials, DP191, DP 161,DP 155, DP100, JB4, Norton, SSl1-5, Invader, see the curves and peaks in my pc and hear how they sound in my Ibanez RG. Today I buy a fake Invader for $12 from china, or leave the pickups in a $ 150 Harley Benton, or even the pickups in a $180 Squier sonic. Today it is idot to waste your money on the 'known' brands. Amen.
I’ve been slowly shying away from the good ole EMG 81, in favor for the Seymour Duncan Distortion, i don’t know how too explain it but it just has more clarity and note definition. I guess what I’m saying is I like the sound of a passive made for metal pushed then a already super hot saturated active pushed. I feel like with an EMG it’s really easy too get muddy and over saturated and take a little more too EQ if that makes sense lol nothing against EMGs they definitely have they’re place and use but just something about a pushed passive that’s a chefs kiss for me. Great video!!! And hope you’re doing good rob! 🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld quick question if you have time of course, did you run a peavey 6505 on pass out of existence? That tone on drop A is impeccable and caused me too run out and buy a peavey 6505+ and I tell ya man when I play along too pure hatred or down again or SP LIT and forces life the tone is so close 🤘
We weren't playing Peavey amps at the time we recorded Pass Out. However starting in 2003, when we did start using Peavey heads exclusively, everything we'd play live off Pass Out, went through a Peavey head. And things sounded better than ever! 🤘 I have a video on the evolution of Chimaira amps if you're interested in checking it out! ruclips.net/video/stqFCs_lfZc/видео.html @@Liam_henson01
The Duncan Distortion is awesome. It's been one of my main pickups since the 80s. It's one of the only ultra hot pickups that you can run through a hot amp without it turning to mud. It's got a very clear, tight bite with lots of sustain and it screams.
My Schecter has 2 Schecter Brand EMG 81s. I IMAGINE they aren't tip top just like I know my Floyd Rose Special isn't the best. But I'm trying to graduate step by step. From an Ibanez Gio with a fixed bridge, to my Schecter C-1.. thru a 1x12 100w Fender Mustang 3. I can't wait to upgrade to my 150 watt Line 6 and a 4x12. I feel like I have a nice chuggy tone though!
As I have an active pickup guitar , I find the old RG in the closet getting less love. What passive pickups would you recommend for someone wanting as much output as the 81/61 EMGs ?
I'm not sure man- I wanted to recommend the EMG SRO, which was a passive hum bucker I used for awhile, and I thought they were comparable to the 81's, but I'm not sure they make them anymore. You can try these... www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RevSetBlk--emg-rev-set-revelation-signature-passive-pickup-set-black The description sounds pretty promising!
Btw, i reckon youd be the perfect candidate to demo new "metal" style gear for sweetwater. Nick Bowcott does a good job for the old school stuff, but i reckon youd be perfect for the more modern stuff
Ahh dude I'd love to, and have day dreamed about working at Sweetwater for ages now. But one thing they require, is that you be there on campus, which would mean relocating to Indiana. No remote employment unfortunately. And right now, that's just not in the cards.
@RobArnoldWorld that sucks. Surely, with your studio set-up they could just send you the stuff and you'd make it look as good as on set. They'd need only look at a few vids of yours to see the production quality.
It’s like 1030 at night while I watch this and I though someone was knocking on the fucking door bc I’m watching it through the TV 😂😂😂 it was the part where you’re explaining why you’d want multiple pickups.

I have been using for over 30 years, Seymour Duncan JB/59,Duncan Distortion, DiMarzio Super Distortion. Emg -81 and now my favorite EMG 57.
This is a info-mercial for Sweetwater.
Great video Rob, super informative!
Happy to hear it brother!

Lots of info in this video. Very enjoyable. Great job Professor Arnold!! Heavy Metal Over Everything!

Right on! For me, nothing beats the 81!
I notice how you, for the Emg 81 featured picture, you chose to use a photo of Matt, rather than yourself. You're a humble man, Robbo.

I have single coil in a USA Strat and out of a vintage fender vibro champ I have they sound amazing
@@creepymcpeepers single coil in a fender is the only way they should be played, fender is a distinct sound mostly cause of the pickups.
