Key commands are shortcuts that can save you tons of time and mousing around in Logic Pro X. Commit these 5 Key Commands to memory to speed up your workflow.
1. Control - Option (Open Zoom Tool in Main Window)
2. Control - T (Create Tracks for Selected Channel Strips)
3. Option - Click Solo Buttons (for Quick Soloing)
4. Command - U (Set Locators by Regions, Events, Marquee, and Enable Cycle)
5. Command - T (Split Regions/Events at Playhead Position)
Loved it! Especially #1...

As someone who has learned an inestimable amount from Chris and now hear my mixes beginning to “ get there” can I presume to advise followers of this fantastic resource to watch ALL Chris’s videos. Each of them , in my experience, builds significantly on each other. We all want to start using EQ and compressors, but if you follow the advised project settings, work flow advise and the basic mix set ups and settings + less immediately appealing advise like gain staging, the lowly fader, mixing in mono you will progress so much more consistently and automatically. This has been my experience and I’m sure it will work for you.
command - Z is *undefeated*
rip command - s
Great. All these tutorials are making my life much easier... Thanks
If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, the wheel also works with command-option, option, or shift-option for the three different zoom types.
Thank you. You answered basically all my newbie questions. I´ve seen sooo many videos of producers and how they so fast, without moving the mouse everywhere, zoom in and out etc, but first now I realize how they do it! YaY!!! :-)
Option with the Solo buttom ...super helpful! Didn't know that one until this video. Thanks!
You are the pro we need. Congrats for your videos! Thank you!!!
Awesome! Option Solo for the WIN!
I know, and use, two of the shortcuts already, but, there was one I didn’t know OPT/Click for Solo. Time saved. These are real fiddling-about time savers. Thank you. Blessings.
This is gold! Thank you, Chris.
Awesome advice (as usual) from Chris.........
Just bought Logic, after using GarageBand for years. This video solved the moving of bus track issue I had last night. The other commands I will probably use all of the time, too. GREAT job on this, it really helped me! Subscribed!
Control t is a revelation! I usually do create new track > reassign track > mixer > aux..... not any more! Thank you.... great stuff
Great tips! Key commands are super underrated. Another thing I can recommend is finding the most used functions and also changing the keys to whatever is the most comfortable. You don't need to map them based on Initial. Just use whatever gives you the fastest workflow and easiest way to remember!
The only real work then is to make tough decisions like M = mute, mixer, (something else cool with m) . I quess the best solution would be to start using cmd, opt, cmd+opt, shift aso
Another helpful tool for a small investment are keyboard skins, I’ve been using mine for years and love all the additional key commands on there. Thanks for the video love the channel!!
Thanks, your channel is right on!
Btw... Once you create an Aux track, clicking the power-on Automation button will move the Aux track next to the instrument track from which you are sending a signal. This too puts a lane for the Aux track in the main window. Very nice for setting up parallel compression.
Love this! Great vid. I saw you using that zoom tool all the time in other videos and so I had figured out that key command for myself. It is now one of the most important tools in my life! Thank you for that.
Chris, this is a major help! Thank you. You think of EVERYTHING!
Thanks for this. Definitely helped me as I am 1 of the too lazy to learn key commands I dont already know lol. Some good ones here 👌🏿👍🏿
These are great, thanks!
Command Alt for zoom is amazing, thankyou!!
Control-T is a great one. Thanks much. Love the videos
Love your channel!
I've been using Logic pretty much every day since 1999 and always utilised Key Commands.
However, because Logic used to be totally configurable (before Apple bought it from Emagic) most power users set it up with their own totally different screensets and key commands.
Sometimes I wouldn't even recognise another user's take on it as it looked so different to any other I'd previously seen 🤣
Anyways... Long story short - thanks for giving me renewed inspiration in the old beast and fresh ideas for improving my work flow. 🙏
PS I don't understand why more people don't use the 'Rubber Band' magnification. I've even shown it to numerous users who have countered with 'I prefer to use the magnifying glass' 😳
Man thanks for this channel!!! You should go through your setup and how you set logic up so you don't get MIDI errors and Overloads! You have soooo many plugins in there i see!
Very good info
Great tips! My setup only needs to hold “option” to zoom. It works with “control-option” too but “control” is not needed.
I now know 2 more than I did..cheers!
Adjusting region ends is hard as you zoom in because the Smart snap is zoom dependant, try zooming out and you’ll find it easier to snap to a bar.
control t just changed my life!!!!!
Mine too. ✊🏼✨
Key commands are excellent - and have remained the same across many iterations of Logic - thanks for the video. And now a request: is there a key command that reduces the size of each instrument window, they are so unnecessarily large!
You can also just hold down option and use the scroll on the mouse to zoom as well. That's how I do it.
Great ! THX
The first one you can use alt and scroll with mouse to zoom.
This channel is very helpful thanks
tell something you are the best Love U ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Command-u Huzzah! Thanks for that.
Definity helpful
Hello, being new to Logic and learning, I went back to see what else Why Logic Pro Rules offers and I see your instruments area and is that from creating templates and do you have a video on that? Maybe I'm way ahead of myself and trying to learn more and more and it's getting hard to remember everything. I think I need a second screen to be able to practice what you are showing us here. Thanks anyway for your time.
very handy, I knew already all of those becasue its required when you want to have a proper workflow, right ?!
cmd + U and option + solo button = My workflow now will never be the same...
I have some similar commands in a video on my channel. Very helpful! 👍
you got the best content
hey guys! Align regions!
Is there a faster way to do this then move playhead to start of region 1 and then move region 2 to playhead? In Pro Tools, a simple Control+click in region 2 would align it to region 1 automatically... :/
Thanks!
Ctrl - T! Good one! Thanks man
Great as always Chris! definitely trying to up my key command game. Quick question for you - do you know the key command to set the alternative pointer tool? We all know you have have to pointers, and the cursor will flip over when you hold command. I know how to bring up the pointer menu (option t) and and provides letters to quickly switch the main pointer, but how do you switch the alternative pointer?
Press cmd while clicking in the popup pointer-menu?
@@chaosme1ster sure but that kind of defeats the purpose of a key command? it's supposed to remove the need and time wasted from moving your mouse around. I can't figure out for the life of me why I can't just hold command and type the letter to switch the alt cursor.
@@sethcronin I wasn't sure I understood your question right - hence the question mark. But now I *do* understand what you asked, and no, I wouldn't know the answer either. AFAIK what you want can't be done.
@@chaosme1ster No worries! I appreciate the help. It just comes from my personal work flow where I usually want to keep the main cursor just the pointing tool, but constantly switch the alt point to marquee/fade tool.
@@sethcronin Sounds familiar. I too hate it when the main cursor is *not* the pointer, and I too switch the alt-cursor all the time. Maybe we should simply abandon the alt-tool and get used to switching the main tool instead. But then... I'm an old man and set in my ways :-)).
Most of these dont do anything on my logic, why is it so? are the
commands different? I have 10.5, and most of the commands i see in these
videos are different or just not there, i really want them to be the
same, is there any command preset i can download somewhere?
Doesn’t just pushing S also is solo?
What about Catalina Update & Logic? a lot of people is complaining ...
what is option on a mac
Hey, when I ‘Control-Option’ and drag the mouse cursor to zoom, my screen just rattles with no zoom taking place. Any ideas?
Look at that freaking project, holy smokes. If I get to like 20 tracks, the computer wants to commit suicide.
Un-Solo'd - A Star Wars Story
Command A Select All
Command Z Undo that Shit
Command R Duplicate
Command T Slice
Command K Musical Keyboard
You don’t have time to NOT learn key commands! 🤣🤣🤣
