Great tips. Another excellent use of the marquee tool is to drop a marquee selection on a transient, use the shortcut to move the playhead to the marquee selection and paste a region to any channel you wish. Ultra handy for manual drum replacement or layering things like tambourines on top of snare hits.
The marquee tool is one of my least used. As someone who now edits a podcast, thank you so much for this video. It's going to save me so much time editing vocal tracks.
Great content! You can also just click an audio region with the Marquee tool without selecting any range (so it is a tiny vertical line). Now you can use the left and right arrows + backspace (delete) to locate and split consecutively at transients super fast!
Thank you SO MUCH for this. I never use the marquee tool. I now REALLY see what I am missing. I think you have very quickly and simply saved me a lot of time and boring energy in the future. I just have to get those shortcuts in my head, and then transfer them to muscle memory. Hopefully won't be long.
I have seen a lot of edm producers make drops and duplicate kicks and snares very quickly but never explain how or what function does that and you just broke it down 🎉
Great, as always! You may have covered this in another video but I can't seem to find it anywhere - is there a way to set the default left-click/right-click edit tools in Logic? They always come up with pointer on the left, pencil on the right. I am always changing the pencil to something else, usually the marquee tool, in the usual manual way.
Was doing some automation on Vocals the other day, wondering if there is a faster, better more efficient way and this video dropped today. Thanks for making such amazing LPX videos. God Bless.
Awesome! In the Transient Editing section you show how to extend a selection either right or left to the next transient using the arrow keys. But say I'm just trying to fine tune a selection around a noise I want to get rid of. Is there a way to nudge the right and left edge of a selection in increments other than to the next transient? Did a bunch of Googling, it all points to here! Thanks!
Just WOW! I especially like the creation of midi regions with the selection to make it as long as it. I was just wondering if Logic could do that when I saw some other DAW videos (because I was looking for some EDM drum tutorials). Thank you so much for sharing these.
I wish. Kind of hope that the Logic developers someday add the option to drag over with the Marquee tool, and press a key command to create a fade, like Pro Tools does. However, you have two other options that are part of the pointer tool. Hold Shift-Control and drag with the pointer tool to create a fade. Or turn on Fade "click zones" to embed the fade tool into the regions. I made a recent video on this topic if you want to check it out.
OMG - I've been looking for forever how to do those automation edits like you did them...quickly adjusting the volume of a section without having to manually add 2 points on either side. Awesome. (Unfortunately, it doesn't work with the marquee tool click zones. You actually have to use the marquee tool itself. But that's ok.)
Anyways to change clip gain with the marquee tool? I know you can select and change within the Inspector, but wonder if their is a more intuitive way just like the automation window.
I have been using Logic since 2007 and I didn't even know the marquee tool existed, lol. Watching your videos I've realized I've been doing things the very tedious way for like 15 years.
Hey Josh do you have a step by step video how to create analog 70’s bass synths with logics stock plugins or VST’S? If you do can you share that video link with me?
In PT you can tab to transient and then move the selection to an adjacent track, so that you can trim (or cut) that other track according to the transient position from the previous track. I can't seem to be able to do that in Logic, is it possible?
Thanks for the question! It's actually very interesting one, so I made a new video about it here: ruclips.net/video/tUXD_skSvlM/видео.html I answer your specific question toward the end of the video, though. I had to explain the two main methods of transient editing in Logic first. Thanks!
@@MusicTechHelpGuy thanks!!! Very well explained as always. Yes, I was coming to that conclusion as well, it’d be great to have that feature in a future upgrade though. 😉
@@MusicTechHelpGuy I’ve just found another way. Ctrl-fn-left arrow moves the playlist to the marquee position. I can then select the track I want and choose cut by playhead. 😌
There is a select and remove silence feature when right clicking on any track that will instantaneously remove all silence from the whole track. I guess using the marquee tool for a single section or specific sections would be beneficial but not using it across the entire track, that would take longer using the marquee.
Super useful as I make the transition from ProTools to Logic. Saving me a bunch of time with these tips!
That's the way to go !
Thank you for this video, and all your content in general. Speeds up my work flow tremendously.

@@davidlindsey77 I use fn+control+left arrow

Incredibly helpful tutorial. Extremely well explained and demonstrated. Thank you so much.
Dope ! This software never ceases to amaze me. Great video !

this was a super cool video, i was struggling to understand why the marquee tool was useful but now its a gamechanger!
Does or can the marquee tool add quick fades to each edit (so you don't hear a pop)? With editing vocals that could save a lot of adding fades.
Brilliant as always
Thanks once again!! You are the best!!
Great video 👍🏽 thank you music man!
Thanks, Josh! Always great content on this channel.

Command + backSlash to crop a region. Turning on Close Captions helps for educational video.🤓
Really Helpful. Thanks. Great Content.
The more I work in Logic I realized the power of this tool. Thanks for the tips
Your videos are so on point and concise. Thank you!
Great description ❤
Excellent video!
Thanks million to explain this!! Finally, I can use the Marquee tool without switching scissors/normal pointer!

There should be a drop down menu that will change the default click tools near the top center of the project window, under the LCD screen
wonderful teaching and diction is superb
As always writing a comment to support the channel
Cool and really helpful tips! 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻

nice, few things i didn't knew, but now my work flow will be faster thanks :)
very helpful, cheers!
Shoutout homies with one arm 💯👊🏽
You can use the marquee to set the start point to play the song. Put the marquee in the point you want to start play and hit “click”.

Thanks for the great video. I can’t believe I slept on this thing.
My 2024 resolution to produce faster is going to get a huge boost.

Is there a way to tab to transients to make cuts or edits
Hello... Nice content brother... There's a way to up or down the volume on sections in the audio waves with the Marquee tool? Thank you!
I used the marquee tool to select and delete audio but stills sounds the deleted part when I press play, what can I do?
Anyways to change clip gain with the marquee tool? I know you can select and change within the Inspector, but wonder if their is a more intuitive way just like the automation window.
I never considered Marquee tool or knowing it’s purposes, but thank you for showing me the way 😊
Good stuff!

Great video! Is there a way to get more than three tools to choose from on the top toolbar? (The one that has the arrow, then the marquee tool)?
really very useful sir
Thanks so very much for your help with Logic.
I’m so glad I found your Channel, it’s been incredibly helpful.

What about MIDI???
I like using it for punch in recording. Super handy
Very good ☺️👍

Cutting Out the Gaps , in
( Logic Pro x ) Click on the Recording Control X Strip silences ! Way faster , more precise . ✊🏾
Strip silence is 100% NOT more accurate! Lol. Strip silence works accurately for isolating drums hits and that’s about it.
Whoa!
