  • In this video I demonstrate how you can avoid using MOST of the edit tools in Logic's tracks area. 95% of the time you can JUST use the pointer and marquee tools if you just know a few workarounds, shortcuts, and modifier keys. Enjoy.

    Didn't know about the Fade option, I always used click zones for that. Helpful tip. Thanks bro!! I also thought you'd like to know that there is a way to make single and multiple cuts using just the Marquee.
    Assuming that its assigned to your Command key...
    - Hold in the Command Key and double-click on the region with the Marquee tool, this will give you a cut where you place it.
    - Holding in Option while the mouse button is still pressed after the double-click will give you multiple cuts of equal division.
    In addition, while the mouse is still pressed down you can also adjust the snap the position of your cut. Holding in control as you do so will snap your cut to the subdivision, holding Shift+ Control will temporarily disable snap. releasing the button will confirm your cut.
    The Control and Shift+Control will also work when adjusting the region edges, time stretching (by holding in option over the bottom right edge) and in general positioning of your regions. The trick is to perform the action, then engage the keys before you release the mouse.
    I agree that in just working with the Pointer & Marquee tools almost exclusively and mastering a few handy key commands will give you a very fast and fluid editing experience, especially when combined with some of the options provided in the Preferences > General > Editing panel.
    Hope this helps

    Excellent stuff. Really made me think and wonder why there are so many "tools". I rarely use most of the tools, but you taught me far more keyboard shortcuts. One thing though - you said the only use for the eraser tool (that isn't available another way) is to delete flex markers - I've always just double clicked the marker with the pointer tool, and it's gone - nice and simple. I don't think I have once ever clicked the eraser tool.

    This was excellent. I’ve been using Logic for years and didn’t know some of these. However, I couldn’t get the automation scaling/flipping trick to work. Clicking and dragging moved the whole automation up and down. Is there a key-press that goes with the click-drag? I’m anxious to learn this, as I’d use it a lot. Thanks for all you do to help us out. You’re a valuable resource.

      You might be using the marquee tool? Usually with the pointer tool alone if you make a selection it should work.

  • @Notacet
    @Notacet 2 года назад

    You’re absolutely correct. Marquee and pointer are the best. The only places I need scissors are equal length, and cutting flex blobs. I have set up a macro in my logitech mouse side button to swap main tool to scissors when pressed down.

    • @drvoodoo3073
      @drvoodoo3073 9 месяцев назад +2

      You don't even need the Scissors tool to cut equal length, you can cut equal length with the Marquee tool too. Just hold down Shift + Command and place the Marquee accordingly and then double click to cut. All you really need is the Pointer and Marquee tools

      @@Notacet what is a flex blob

    • @Notacet
      @Notacet 9 месяцев назад

      @@drvoodoo3073I sometimes use flex pitch instead of melodyne (when I want quick local fixes for back vocals for example). And sometimes you have to cut notes in half to make corrections to only small part. And for some reason marquee doesn’t cut there, only scissors do. I’m calling them blobs incorrectly because that’s what they’re called in melodyne.

    • @drvoodoo3073
      @drvoodoo3073 9 месяцев назад

      @@Notacet I just tried it myself and you're right, the Marquee tool doesn't work in Flex Pitch view. However, I can offer a workaround: in Settings/General/Editing set 'Right Mouse Button' to 'Is Assignable to a Tool' so that you get a total of 3 tools instead of just 2 in the Tool pallet. So when you're in Flex Pitch view and need to cut the note all you need to do is Right click with your mouse.

      Hold Shift and Control and drag over the audio region to create a fade. If it's a MIDI region, you can't use a normal fade, you have to press A to bring up automation, and then creating a linear automation fade.

  • @cutseencinematics

    please can you do one like this on quick ways to use the quantise tool with shortcuts? having to jump between normal and relative snap, as well as the different resolutions, and simply toggling snap on/off intelligently is a pain in logic. thanks

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  2 года назад +1

      Quantize Tool is easy. Just select a quantization value in the Piano Roll editor, and press Q on your keyboard to quantize. No quantize tool needed. And Command G will turn on/off grid snap. The others might require some custom key commands.

I'm tracking out my first project and went to flex time to start adjusting parts. But when I do this, the audio disappears/or whistles. There is no audio when I switch on flex. Why is this? Is it a glitch? I'd appreciate any help...

      Try clicking on the region to open up the editor and turn on flex from there. Make sure to turn it off when you're done before turning on flex on another region. I noticed if I leave it on and move to something else without turning it off I start to get weird glitches too.
