CSN(Y) Definitely in my top three best bands ever. I was very late to the CSN(Y) party, probably not until the 00's despite being a Baby Boomer born in 1953!! Better late than never!😂😂🇬🇧
This is one of my very favorite songs. They are Bee Gees like but their music is way deeper lyrically. The Southern Cross is a constellation below the equator used for navigation. These guys played at Wood stock. They had Neil Young come in and out of the group. Crosby is the chubby mustached guy with Long hair. Check out Suite Judy Blue eyes. Steven Stills plays almost every instrument. Crosby is known for his great voice and Nash for harmonies. They wrote about politics and other things that the BeeGees never touched. I am a fan of the BeeGees but these guys are above them.

The only artist I've heard of is David Crosby, but I don't think I know the others🤔. RIP David 🙏.
Well, you can't know them all, but that's why I like this channel. You get to know and learn a lot, and please always go deep if you feel compelled to do so. I think that's what separates you from the other reactors and makes this channel so special.
I like this beautiful and light melody with these great harmonies. This was so soothing and illustrated by the sailboat. That gave this light and carefree feeling. Thanks for the suggestion Jill and glad you're back HAP 🥰🙋🏻♀️.
According to Steven Stills, "this is. a story about a long boat trip I took after my divorce. It's about using the power of the universe to heal your wounds." This version is actually missing the last verse. It may have shed more light on the meaning. "So we cheated and we lied and we tested, but we never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do. You will survive being bested. Somebody fine, will come along make me forget about loving you...and the Southern Cross." The Southern Cross is a constellation in the sky south of the equator. Keep up the good work!
🎶🔥🎸 Super group made up of David Crosby, Graham Nash and Steven Stills. Steven Stills wrote this during his divorce and took this sailing journey down to the Marquesas, which is below the equator and the place where the Southern Cross constellation can be seen. David Crosby was with with the musical group The Byrds. Graham Nash was with The Hollies and Steven Stills with Buffalo Springfield and at times performed with Neil Young, as well. CSNY formed in 1969 and performed, off and on, for many decades. Southern Cross is one of my favorite songs, as the harmonies are unparalleled. @@meliplay Steven er-worked the lyrics from "Seven League Boots" and applied a situation that happened during his divorce while on a sailing trip French Polynesia. Don't know what Jackson song/event you are referring to.
@@jillmcilwain2633 the entire story escapes my memory but jackson was living in one of their boats and he mentioned something about a divorce happening with his friend and he wrote for everyman on the boat. Then he tells a story about staying in a house kent to him while he was in the UK and all the art and he said " so you know it wasnt Steven stills house" and he talked about meeting a girl there and then went into the song something fine
I love this song. Well, I love CSN and sometimes they are Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The Southern Cross is a constellation in the southern hemisphere. Though you can see it just north of the equator. Doesn't sound like the BeeGees. Guess you had to be alive back then to know the difference. 😁
I saw them in concert just once, in the late 1980s. Their harmonies have always been mesmerizing. Thanks for bringing back some good memories, Hap!
Southern cross = In the Southern Hemisphere 4 bright stars form a cross. Sailors as old as time used it for navigation pointing to the south poll. Pretty sure (?) it's on the Australian and New Zealand flags? Not sure if that is what this song is about as I have a passing relationship with this band. Nothing negative just wasn't really in the music I was listening to. I, of course, knew who they were and some songs (including this one) but never dug deep.
These guys played at Woodstock so very old school. (They also did Live Aid. A one time reunion after a break up) The band use to be Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young but Young went poof. More of a Folk band but didn't stop certain members of enjoying all the good/bad/ugly of the late 60's, 70's.
And yes. David Crosby died less than a month ago. He was 81. He lived a life. That is for sure!

Ohhh, this song/video made me think of dreams I had after I graduated from university to buy a sailboat and sail the world....didn't happen, but still....love this song for bringing back that memory as well

I believe Southern Cross is an atmospheric condition similar to the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). But you're right the song is heavy in symbolism.
It is the southern Hemisphere's version of the Northstar. Only is the combination of 4 stars.
Bucket list item: seeing the Southern Cross with my own eyes.

The Southern Cross is a set of stars used in navigation for the Southern Hemisphere, just like the North Star is used in the Northern Hemisphere for navigation. Cleverly, Australia has the Southern Cross in their national flag.

Even though I’ve never sailed in the southern hemisphere, this song speaks to me.
I grew up around the Great Lakes. Much time on the water, mostly Lake Erie and Huron. For anyone unfamiliar, Lake Huron alone is bigger than England (134,000 km2 vs 131,000 km2).

My parents used to listen to this....I can remember sitting around a fire on the beach, friends had guitars and this was a fun song to sing to....so, happy memories, thanks for that :-)

Love Crosby, Stills and Nash. You reacted to some of Avi Kaplans solo music, he released a new album last year would love to hear what you think. There are 11 tracks on the album, he rearranged 2 songs for an acoustic recording for The 7 Layers Sessions, and 4 songs for the live at Sunset Sound. All are amazing!

It actually amazes me how many people doing reactions (who are all much younger than I am) have no idea what the southern cross is.
Maybe Will Rogers was wrong and schools actually aren't what they used to be.
