OMG....this is my favorite CSN song; I'm a water person who's convinced she was some form of aquatic mammal in a previous lifetime 😁. I love that Stephen Stills named his sailing rig Music; a play on post divorce feelings, but entirely relatable to many. Thank you to the person suggesting this 😊

The harmonies when they start the chorus - "I have been around the world" - are just... eargasmic. (Sorry if that's not a word and/or not appropriate, lol.) This takes me away like Calgon. You can't go wrong with Crosby, Stills &Nash or Crosby, Stills Nash & Young! All solid singer-songwriters and musicians! They're harmonies are incredible and their lyrics are always intelligent.

One their best songs - love the sailing references and video. The Southern Cross is a constellation only visible in the Southern Hemisphere - 4 stars that correspond to the ends of the Cross in a near perfect way. I was lucky to travel to New Zealand after hearing this song and I was pretty impressed to see it myself.

I love this Stephen Stills song, thank you for reacting to it. All the CSN songs are great and also Buffalo Springfield which is Stills and Neil Young. You will love this journey.
"So we cheated and we lied, and we tested. And we never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do." Hard to find a more relatable lyric. CSN's harmonies are always spectacular.
That line was NOT included in this version. They cut it off during the instrumental and didn’t wait for that line, which is an awful thing to do.

I don’t know what version of this song is played in the video, but it must be a radio edit or something, because they cut it off before the last lines he sings:

Actually the lyric goes.."And we TRYSTED"...totally different meaning. But ya, those last lines really made the song.
"The Southern Cross" that is featured in the same named song is a constellation of five stars mainly in the skies of the Southern Hemisphere. It is on the Australian flag and states of the country including Victoria, where John Farnham comes from Teez! It is referred to in Australia's national anthem. It is also on the flags of other countries that are "down under."
Crosby, Stills and Nash make the most beautiful, harmonious music. My heart always soars when I hear them. Respond to MORE of them, please!

Great reaction bro. Sorry I'm late n I'm sure all this is said...but the song is both about Stephen Still's divorce and his travels on his boat and also David Crosby's addictions. He didn't even sing directly on the song as he was in rehab. Ppl like James Taylor and Linda Rondstadt filled in for the extra vocals. The line about his boat being all he had left was true. Crosby had a boat named "Music" and it was basically all he had left after selling most of his possessions for drugs. This song has such depth and meaning. The Southern Cross is a constellation only seen in the Southern hemisphere

You will survive being bested, 'cause somebody fine will come along and make me forget about loving you, and the southern cross..." Kinda ties up the whole story of the song.

The irony is, Crosby isn’t on this song! It’s actually Stills, Nash, Schmidt and Garfunkel! Yep it took an Eagle, Timothy B. Schmidt AND Art Garfunkel to fill David’s shoes!

Rabbit Hole Alert. I consider Southern Cross as a pop sell out but it is still excellent. Before anyone hits the thumbs down. I mean in comparison to Helpless, Teach your Children and Suite Judy Blue Eyes type stuff for example. Southern Cross will wet your whistle but the meat is much more profound when you take the complete journey. When you make it to CSNY and the song Ohio is when you realize the power and tears of a generation.
