Three Legends from three Legendary Bands. David Crosby - The Byrds... Steven Stills - Buffalo Springfield... Graham Nash - The Hollies... Each group is worth reactions.
And then later they add Neil Young, like they didn't already have an overload of genius all in one group. :-)
They are a real super group since each came from another important group. Plus Neil Young - wasn't he in Buffalo Springfield , too?
Right on with the genealogy
@@cindyfalstrom7231 yes he was!
@@cindyfalstrom7231 Yes he was. He did "Mr Soul" great song, and several others
The Southern Cross is a constellation visible from the southern hemisphere. When Steven Stills was going through a bad divorce, he sailed his boat around the world, and this song came from that.
In the era of this vid, Stills and Nash should get a lot of credit for the band even being able to perform. David Crosby was at the worst stage of his long battle with drug addiction. In this vid, you can see that he is almost catatonic. (the guy on the left with the funky mustache)
amazing
He didn't sing on the song when it was first recorded. He was in rehab. James Taylor and Linda Rondstadt filled with added vocals. The line about his boat being all he had left was true...Crosby had a boat named "Music" and it was basically all he had left to his name, selling everything else for drugs. The best music comes from either extreme joy or pain
Michael A. Curtis wrote the original song, you can find it online, Stephen re-wrote to to what it is today
Chod/Dee, their "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" is next for you!! edit- Stephen Stills wrote it about his then girlfriend, singer Judy Collins.
"Carry On", "Teach Your Children Well".
Stills wrote this song after his divorce, his wife took everything except his boat, and he took it out to get his mind right.
The perfect blend of Folk and Rock.
"To play a wrong note is inconsequential. To play without passion is unforgivable." -- Ludwig van Beethoven
Great quote.
*Afternoon Chod and the lovely Dee* DEFINITELY a band that gets overlooked way to much.! Those harmonies.....! {whispering to Chod}, show her *Teach your children* by them or *Our House* .! It will put a smile on your faces.! Take care... *David* .....
CSN is one of the most incredibly talented trios ever, I love listening to them to unwind.
CSN and CSN&Y helped to define the music of the late 60’s-70’s. Beautiful songwriting and each member of the band had great solo careers, in particular Neil Young. Painting Chod’s nails might help his allergies. ✌️😄
Stephen Stills "Love The One You're With",, "Change Partners" & "Treetop Flyer"..MUST HEAR Classics.
Treetop flyer, yes
@@aviatom1 Definitely....One of the guys I worked with about 10 years ago was the Tree Top Flyer Stephen wrote about. The song was written in South Lake Tahoe in a house in the Tahoe Keys.
Crux (/krʌks/) is a constellation of the southern sky that is centered on four bright stars in a cross shape commonly known as the Southern Cross. It lies on the southern end of the Milky Way's visible band. The name Crux is Latin for cross. Even though it is the smallest of all 88 modern constellations, Crux is among the most easily distinguished as its four main stars each have an apparent visual magnitude brighter than +2.8. It has attained a high level of cultural significance in many Southern Hemisphere states and nations.
Yeah, it's in the flags of a lot of southern nations, including Australia, New Zealand, a lot of island nations--even Brazil. Like The Big Dipper up here, once it's pointed out, it does really stand out in the sky.
We actually have two here in the skies above New Zealand , there is a smaller one known simply as the false southern cross, once you know the difference between the two the main one is prominent vision in the night sky
So many great songs by them. Real music.
Possibly my favorite song by CSN. Always reminds me when I make that Southern Cross into Costa Rica.
Such a great group! Awesome song.
One of my very favorite songs! You can feel like you're on the boat
She never heard of this Group....HOLY MOLY!
Dude....of all their songs.....YIKES! I wouldn’t even put this in their top 20!
Stephen Stills was essentially deaf in one ear when he performed this and throughout his career with CSN. He went deaf in both ears several years ago. Bless him, in the tradition of Beethoven. Stephen has always been my favorite, from Buffalo Springfield, CSN (in all its carnations), and his amazing solo work.
Hey guys! I live deep in the Great Smoky mountains of Western North Carolina in a little town called Sylva. Between my town and the next town over is a really big cross high upon the mountain top. It shines so bright that you can see it for miles and miles away! It was put there by a father who lost his daughter in a car wreck. This song reminds me of that and no matter if I travel somewhere out of state this song brings me back home! Great song! Ps... Hey guys if you get the chance come see The Great Smoky Mountains and ride up on the parkway1 It's heaven on earth and it's my home!
ONE OF STILLS BEST! USED TO WATCH 'EM PRACTICE AT THE PIONEER HOTEL, THOSE WERE THE DAZE!
If you want to hear Still's best then you need to check out the Manassas album. This is great but I think Manassas is better.
This is one of my favorite from them!!
This group was very important in my youth, the trio, plus Neil Young occasionally. The albums that brings back most memories of my high school days are CSNY "Deja Vous" and Don McLean. They take me right back. Neil Young solo work, ie: "Old Man," "Harvest Moon",
"A Man Needs a Maid", Heart of Gold, "The Needle and the Damage done", plus many more are timeless...
For your next React from C,S,N & Y should be “Suite Judy Blue Eyes” or “Wooden Ships” excellent Harmonies! …SanJoséBob
I’ve never seen your channel before, but I saw Southern Cross. One of my all time favorite songs. I’m looking forward to your channel. This song is solid.
Crosby, Stills, & Nash are a great vibe as you mentioned. And have a deep catalog of music. Chad, I I'm sure you'll be introducing Dee to more of their music. Enjoyed your reaction and glad to hear you spent time with family. And Dee, your daughter did do a great job on your nails. Sorry to hear that allergies got you feeling bad Chod. Take care!
This is my favorite song. Ever.
Great live performance, loved ir
Crosby as actually not singing. When this was recorded, he was in jail. Out by the time the video was filmed. His vocal part was the combined vocals of Flo & Eddie of the Turtles.
That’s why you hear 4 voices in the chorus
I was working at Graham's studio during the making of this album. I don't recall now if David had been arrested for anything yet when they were still recording, but it was definitely before he'd been sentenced to prison. Originally, Daylight Again was supposed to be a Stills-Nash record and they had been working on it for a long time when I started working there. But Atlantic Records wasn't interested in it at all. They were only interested in a CSN album. I seem to recall that Graham (my boss) and Stephen had spent over a half million bucks already on recording. And so they got David to agree. Kaylan and Volman did backgrounds, Art Garfunkel did some, Timothy B. Schmitt did some. Crosby isn't doing much singing on that album. In fact, he was a complete wreck at the time, hopelessly addicted to smoking freebase cocaine about every half hour day and night. Incredibly, he could still sing though. It was pretty amazing because he looked like death warmed over. Lots of stories to tell about those days. Cheers!
Prolly my fav song from them (Woodstock when Young was in them)
Never seen this version of this song. Absolutely love the song. When I worked away from home and came home only on weekends this was many times the final song I would play in type car as I arrived at home.
I believe they were harmonizing with their guitars...Cool..
I'd love to see you react to Stills doing "Treetop Flyer" from this same show!..Please!..You'll love it!
these guys played together, broke apart, got back together, several times over many years, and had careers in other groups and solo, for a long time before and after. Vocally, together, they are even better than this.
.
Dude .. I saw CSNY Concert 2001 .. you ROCK ..
.
Helplessly Hoping is a great harmony song by them.
Crosby,, Stills & Nash "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"
In 1977 or '78 I was playing 'Just a Song Before I Go' from their just released album with a friend, another street musician to a small gathering on a pedestrian mall in Vancouver when a cop pulled over and after briefly pulling one of those present aside, stuck his walkie-talkie between the guitars and said, "Keep playing", as I began a solo. I'm sure those back at the station dug it too. It was cool. AF, if it needs saying. ;>D
I saw them twice in concert.
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young was one of my first concerts at Capitol Center outside of DC. They went from acoustic to electric to acoustic and played for almost 4 hours. Amazing.
One of the best 👍🏻
Ahhhh, good song!
They are at the top of Mt. Rushmore of harms singers!
this song always hits the spot. Immortal.
So this song always brings a smile to my soul but wow the live version is fantastic. They sound great! Such an amazing song!!
When you see multiple players on acoustic guitars one of them usually has what they call "Nashville Tuning". This gives the effect of a 12 string guitar but with much more punch since it's coming from 2 different guitars.
Yes I missed you guys
This concert was amazing.....what talent, what an impact these guys made while I was growing up...Love Them...
SUPER GROUP.
I have always loved this song.It sets such a vivid picture of sailing around to the southern hemisphere, seeing different stars in the sky, feeling the breeze on your face, the isolation of being a ship on the cast oceans.
Such a great song. My favorite version of it is at Jimmy Buffett concerts, perfect setting for this tune.
Love this song, so beautiful, and the intro is superb. Steven's voice is perfect
These guys were my growing up years! ❤️ try to the last whale 🐳! Fantastic song!
Tight band with heavenly voices. Classic.
Such great harmonizers..They asked Jerry Garcia to play pedal steel guitar on one of their albums. He agreed if they taught his band, The Grateful Dead, how to harmonize.
This group define an era. God I love these guys ! MORE !!
The blending of their guitars and singing is what made them and outstanding
If you want to see these guys do something quite different from what you're expecting, check out 'Almost Cut My Hair' from Deja Vu. Thunderous dueling lead guitars from Stills and Neil Young, passionate solo vocal by Crosby. Rock n' roll.
CSN were together a looong time. All came from successful bands.
A great old band.Greetings young sir and young lady if you love beautiful music please please have a look at Eivør - Falling Free (Live at the Old Theater in Torshavn) Eivor she is full of talent.Thank you both all the best from England and stay safe.
Dee the more music you react with Chod the more your ear will develop. I know mine has. I also picked up an instrument. Also, you ask questions, which is good. As for allergies I drink nettle leaf tea and local honey. I also don't go outside much if it is windy. And now the disclaimer. Always check with your doctor and do your own research.
Arriving at the same place at the same time through the song is the basis of music.
They took flight at Woodstock with Suite Judy Blue Eyes and have been flying ever since.
I was working for them during this time. I was there in the studio when this song was being recorded for their new album Daylight Again. This was when Crosby was still EXTREMELY addicted to smoking freebase cocaine day and night. During rehearsals for this tour, he'd have to leave the stage and go sneak off to hit his pipe again about every half hour or so. The thing was, he could still sing just fine. You can see, many times in this concert footage, how his eyes will get HUGE, staring out into the dark, frozen stiff, unmoving except for his hands on the guitar. It was so sad to see, because I loved these guys when I was a kid in the 70's. I saw him again years later right after he got out of prison and he had short hair and no mustache. And he was finally free from his killer addiction. But he still couldn't help being the jerk he'd always been to his true friends and as a result, these guys aren't even on speaking terms anymore. Such a shame.
Side note their first gig was at Woodstock in 1969
We need to hear you chit chat, and comments.
Grew up listening to this band. Great harmony
These guys are famous for harmony. So singing and playing guitar in harmony is just their thing.
Check out TREE Top Flyer by Steven Stills. A song about a smuggler.
A Crosby, Stills, and Nash song from the 1982 album Daylight Again - and that studio cut should be heard. Really should hear Still's TREETOP FLYER from his '91 album Stills Alone, and hear what he can do with just one guitar!
I love how Graham Nash always hyped up his guys and talked about how great their songs are
im watching this in 2024.....the comments are so like blowing my mind...im 48 thought it was cool song i seen on the blacklist
Love CSN. One of my favorite bands.
Woodstock, Ohio, Carry On & Wooden Ships
I've had the pleasure of seeing C.S.N. and Y. Live 3 times. Recorded the last show in HD. AWESOME shows
Stephen Stills is one of my favorite performers. I saw CSN live in Bangor Maine about 10 years ago. It was awesome. Stephen was barefoot.
One of the more famous super-groups. Such a great song.
Legends. My favorite member of the original foursome called CSN&Y is not
with them at this time. He was on his way to legendary status as a solo
artist. His name is Neil Young aka “The Grandfather of Rock.”
"The Godfather of Grunge" is actually what they used to call him.
Chod, I feel your pain. Every year… saline nasal washes, daily Zyrtec, nasal sprays 3 days on 2 days off and repeat (I get nose bleeds so I can’t do them every day). First sign of a sinus infection brewing and I’m off to the doctor for prednisone (I also have asthma.) And I avoid being outside on high pollen count days as much as possible.
I have loved this song ever it came out in 1982, I made a CD with only this song on it - got it on a CD 17 times.
From left to right David Crosby, Graham Nash, and Steven Stills. The first time they played together was at Woodstock.
One of the best harmonizing bands and great solo artists, you need to play some of 4 Way Street and introduce her to Neil Young
Fun trivia: David Crosby's father was a Hollywood cinematographer named Floyd Crosby. He won an Oscar for the silent movie Tabu. He also filmed the classic High Noon.
Thx! Good musicians can hide mistakes! They were known for unison!
This is probably my favorite song by them. If you don't know which one is which. They are singing lead is Stephen Stills, the one in the middle is Graham Nash, and the one on the left eith the mustache is David Crosby. My sister has a couple of their records. They are great songwriters and musicians. The live album Four Way Street with Neil Young is one super album. For allergies try eating the local honey. The bees carry pollen and stuff to produce honey. This is supposed to help biild immunities to local allergens. Give it a try
Neil Young joined them at some point Who played with Steven Stills while on Buffalo Springfield
Wow you’ve been chasing some deep rabbit holes lately good for you guys enjoy music The way it’s supposed to sound because when you play the instrument your expression emotions come through it and with it
I love this group and saw them in concert! Neil Young, wrote a great song called "Southern Man" he was that band.
AGAIN, LIVE IS ... OK ... THE ALBUM VERSION SHOULD ALWAYS BE LISTENED TO 1ST(MY OPINION!)
They do an astounding cover of 'Blackbird' by the Beatles and you should check out 'Judy blue eyes ' if you haven't already.
One of Steven Stills best solo tune.😎
You should check out Love the One You’re With. Stephan Stills and team are awesome!!!
Fantastic song.. from the same era, other great tunes are "Dark Star", "Just a Song Before I Go", "See the Changes", "Wasted On the Way", and the amazing "Cathedral"..
I would agree with your statement about CSN and maybe Y are known with the easy great harmonies, but the second half of 4 way streets they showed they were also able to jam! The best were Carry on and southern man.
Nice nails Dee!
In 1969 they were considered as the American Beatles
This timeless material is only one example of their influence. Something revisited to this day after all these years. Actually better when listening with a couple of platform friends. Oh, just wondering, does anybody out there think the "Eagles" were influenced by these artists? "Seven Bridges Road" is a good place to start.
They're not always laid back...check out Carry On from their 4 Way Street live album with Neil Young.
Now try 'Wooden Ships' from Woodstock 69.......their first gig.
Always listen to the original recording after you review a song. Live sound is not the same sound that is recorded in a studio. Check out Dark Star from the same album, it one of my favorites.
Local honey is supposed to be good for allergies.
Lmao, I find it easier to play with multiple guitars, or pianos, steel, fiddle, or any combination than singing harmonies. But then I've always been a lead vocalist.
“Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” or you haven’t heard CS&N! ❤️
can you do a reaction to Sleeping for Years by Atomic Rooster
