Model:Samples Mega Tutorial 1

- Elektron has come out with a new machine. It’s a sample instrument. And it’s a bit more accessible than their other machines. To say that this is geared towards newcomers I’d say is pretty much accurate. But an Elektron newcomer might be expected to have prior experience in at least something. It helps to understand the concept of patterns, sequencers, parameters, tracks..

The Elektron depth is still there to a great extent. But it’s simpler to get started with it, and easier to get to the depths. All in all I like it. It’s fast, and fun.

47:30 To make LFO play once, just as Envelope, you can choose ENV LFO type from LFO menu, check manual, p.33
Ah, good!
@@truecuckoo Can this be USB powered?
Also, if you hold down the lfo button and twist the desired parameter, the destination and depth will automatically map. I’m really hoping they’ll add an attack parameter (perhaps as a func + decay) - I’m tired of wasting my one lfo for longer scw attacks.
edit. user manual available in pdf. (didnt recieve inbox). love the device.
@@DJTUTOFR No. But there's a battery pack adapter that's going to be released soon
Ah yes, an excellent introductory tutorial assuming zero knowledge of the product. This is far better than reading the manual! Elektron should be paying you for these.

My favorite part of this video is hearing you say “this is very nice actually”
i like "Now you're browsing."

Someone should make him a set of stickers of cartoon man exploding head for his tools .. he can sell them for a dollar .. or bobble head him (level 2) !!!
Top cheesecake in my humble diet of music masters 🤘🤘🤘
Cuckoo, you’re a worldwide treasure.
❤️
@@truecuckoo the fact you do these tutorials with the ads turned off as well allowing us to focus on following the tutorial rather than ad skipping is incredible
Your patience and instruction commitment here is so helpful to me.
By far the best tutorial! I just got mine and you got me up and running. You should open up a music production school
I've played music my whole life but the Model:Samples is my first sampler or synth-like box of any kind (besides guitar pedals). This was such an amazing introductory experience and I feel as though I've gained some kind of new superpower. Thanks so much for the video!!
A tip of mine for using Cycles or Samples boxes... Don't use velocity at all for volume, instead use velocity to control pan position & turn off any velocity for volume/level controlling it. It's just as easy to apply volume/level edits on these boxes with a parameter lock on steps in a sequence. If you assign velocity to panning position & control. All 6 tracks will have an easy way to pan steps in their sequences for each track. Turn your velocity mod source to pan & depth of it to max +63... Turn down the volume/level depth to 0. Then swing each tracks pan positions to hard left. Now a velocity value of 64 is centre pan. 0 velocity is hard left pan & 127 is hard right. Velocity how I pan things on every track without having to waist a lfo as a panning mod.
@True Cuckoo thought u may be interested in this tip for using velocity as a panning trick. I use velocity to control pan position now on every track... On both of my Model Cycles & Samples boxes. I prefer to edit trig parameter locks for levels per step using locks via the volume/dist knob. The velocity then can be very effective & more commonly most resourceful to make good at pan position duties... you just have to dial off any velocity to control levels, & if you turn the velocity pan depth to +63. You have to go to the tracks volume & panning page. Then turn the tracks pan position hard left. Now 127 velocity is hard right pan. 0 velocity is hard left & 64 velocity is center pan. Watch your beats go Cuckoo now.
I've been a teacher for 25 years. This is redonkulously good demo pedogogy.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
This was immensely helpful. I grew up pre internet. I had to read the entire manual of my first sampler, an EMU ESX32, a hundred times over to get making beats back in 1992. On a whim I bought this unit and watched this video and started making beats again after a 15 year hiatus. What fun. Thank you so much. This is a great resource and I will be back for more.
can i touch you, wow someone from pre internet. if they fucking would deliver a manual then we could read them. but those lazy ass companies dont provide any longer
“Always ask questions” key of life right there!
I love this dude. He might be the most chill person I've ever seen on YT doing music videos. Just got my Model Samples as my first groovebox and I'm pumped. Looking forward to learning this thing.
❤️
I thought I knew this machine inside out, boy was I wrong. Something as simple as using chance to have a note only repeat on a 4th without having to use another pattern just made my year. Can’t thank you enough for this!
Also, one really cool retrig "trick" not mentioned here is using it in conjunction with the velocity sensor of the pads. Hold down RETRIG and then softly press and hold one of the T pads. Then, without lifting your finger, increase the pressure on the pad and the volume will increase. Rinse, repeat. For double the fun, press and hold two pads.
I’m a pretty advanced user of most audio tools and only checked in here to see the functionality of the machine regarding possible purchase. However, I’m super impressed with this tutorial. You seem like such a cool person and I really hope you’re making something of an income with teaching and tutorials because this is really great work!!
Thank you so much, my friend! Most of my income is coming from people supporting my work on Patreon.
I’m glad!
I don’t even have one of these and I’ve watched this entire tutorial. I learned more about mixing dynamics from this video than I have anywhere else.
You are an excellent teacher. Hope you keep this going ad infinitum
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Just got this beast as my first drum machine. This review is amazing. I was able to dive right in after just thirty minutes of watching.
Also, I love how musical this thing is for such a cheap price tag. Velocity, crazy delay, chromatic tuning, reverse button, distortion with volume... all super intuitive and accessible. And some of the samples are really amazing and complex. I feel there’s still a bunch to learn but with this review and two hours of time I already built some patterns I was really happy with.
Thanks for this great review of a musical drum machine. Both are rare!
Already watched twice to get a grasp of everything, now watching for the 3rd time with the Model:Samples in front of me. Great tutorial and invaluable to anyone learning the Elektron workflow for the first time. Thanks!
I just bought one of these and this video is gonna be my main guide to learning the basic functions. I’ve fiddled with it for a couple hours and learned a lot, but was a little unclear on things. So thank you, this video will save me a lot of time and aggravation. I can see this unit being a lot of fun once you learn how to properly use it!
Commenting thank you before I even watch it! Your reviews/tutorials/overviews - so much detail and insight. So many helpful tips. Thank you Cuckoo!!
Hi Cuckoo. Just wanted to thank you for all your videos. I remember you being my entry into the world of youtube learning back in 2015 with the op-1.
That velocity editing workflow is so simple and so brilliant.
Comprehensive, fluid and a characterful host - can’t ask for much more
Thank you kind sir...this is an awesome video on model sample. Im having so much fun with this machine. For people like me who are new to music production, your videos are a godsend. Please don't stop doing what you do.
Ah Mr Cuckoo, I have always loved electronic music and now I own a Model Samples. With this awesome tutorial I am on my way and sampling nearly everything I hear and making sweet music!! Thank you sir. :)
just subscribed! I just bought the Model samples and would be lost without this!
This has to be the best tutorial on a piece of music kit I've ever watched on RUclips....Thank you, True Cuckoo, you have an excellent delivery and teaching manner...
This is absolutely the best tutorial on any piece of audio hardware I’ve watched. Thanks for keeping it fun and chill!
dude, you are without a doubt one of the best, if not the best, youtuber on music gear ever. thank you so much for enlightening us with such detailed content, you're a lifesaver
Just ordered this only because of your tutorial, seemed more fun when you played it than all the other demos. My first Sampleplayer. Cheers :D
Enjoyed hanging out with you for this tutorial. You’ve persuaded me to pick one up. I’m brushing my hair and am heading out the door to Guitar Center.
Your tutorials are great! Much love and respect ✌🏼
I've had my Samples for about a week and your video has been infinitely more helpful than the manual. Thanks very much! I'm really enjoying it a lot - it's my first Elektron (and drum machine!) experience, and after watching your tutorial I've been able to come up with a handful of fun things. Thanks again!
Everyone thats new to this stuff and owns a MS should watch this video
Love this little machine. Not as deeep as other Elektron gear, but can still do a hell of a lot. Paired with a good analog, and you’re pretty much good to go. Classic.
I was on the fence between Cycles and Samples and this just tipped me over. What a NICE way to get to know this instrument :_) Thank you so much, Cuckoo!
Not even a minute in, and I already love this bloke. Was looking for a quick start up to use it in my DAW, but looks like class is in session!
Man oh man just got my M:Cycles, and this tutorial despite being for the Samples explains so much, thank you!
Got one of these for Christmas - first foray into Elektron so this tuturial was fab - thanks Cuckoo. Feel I am properly up and running with it now.
That's great Jit!
So great that you are addressing the polymetric possibilities, so my jam!! Brilliant and warm as always, love you Cuckoo!!
You are an excellent and fun teacher. Thank you for this.
Man. this is saving my life - I can actually use this machine now!
You couldn't ask for more in a tutorial. Thanks
I just ordered one :) it's my first new drum machine since the Alesis SR-16 :)
Thank you for sharing the best model:samples tutorial - I am amazed at this little affordable beast of a machine.
Thanks for the best beginners tutorial i´ve seen on youtube. Well done.
i got me a mode:sample and learnd on the ease way with your vid, now jamming and get into it! love your tutorials, dude!
Thanks mate! Glad to hear my work is making it easier for you! Keep it up!
@@truecuckoo thanks cuckoo👍
Best product demo to date period! I, actually ordered one and canceled it... Your demo just sold it to me again!
LOVE this tutorial, exactly the info. I needed, presented in a musical way that’s easy to grasp and creatively inspiring. I just traded with a local musician for the Model Samples, and even with the manual I wasn’t feeling it. Then I sat down with this video and the Samples, and it opened the door. (In fact, I found myself wandering off mid-tutoriaL and writing a song with it. Will finish the tutorial today.) Thanks for doing what you do, and for way you do it!
Cuckoo, thanks man! This is an amazing tutorial and you are an excellent tutor! I've just bought a Model Samples and although I'm one of those people who read the whole manual, it's a lot to take in, but you cover pretty much everything in a practical way. So I'm ready to get stuck in already. It's such a fun machine!!!
Thanks mate! So happy to hear that your on your way with it now, and that I could help you in that. 🙏🏼
You have a wonderful delivery in your videos!
You are an incredibly talented demonstrator and teacher. Thanks for making this video!
Informative. Comprehensive. Fun. Laid back. Excellent tutorial!
I just ordered one of these and I hugely appreciate your help in this video. Super helpful navigation tips.
I totally bought this sampleplayer because of you Cuckoo ❤️
Dude, you are awesome :) I needed to write it about a year ago when I found your tutorial first time. When I choose a new gear I always check your review first.
Thanks Kronon!
fantastic video, I didn't know this groovebox ... but I understood everything immediately, compliments very clear explanations, the number 1
I fell in love with this machine.
I have a M:Cycles, so a lot of this wasn’t so much new as it was confirming that I needed a M:Samples as well; so I ordered one!! 😁 The other thing this video taught me is that you, Cuckoo, have an incredible ear! As you started building the track, it took you only seconds to identify what each new element needed! Pure sorcery! Great teaching too! Many thanks! 🙏
🙏🏼 thank youuu
Thank you so much! I watched so many videos on the Samples and got little to no real info before finding yours which finally was made for actual beginners.
P.s. New subscriber and Insa follower! Love your stuff.
I kinda love how you start the video with 'for beginners' and by the end you are vibing with the immediacy and playbility. I bought M:S to solve a problem - i sit down at my DAW and am overwhelmed with options. It is dead on for purpose - i have it and a uno synth and a couple of batteries on my coffee table an i dunno if ive had as much fun just jamming in a long time.
Best tutorial ever!!! Waiting for the second part)
Waiting on delivery of my Model:Samples and wanted to get up to speed ahead of time. This demo rocks! A bit long? Yes. Worth my time? Absolutely! Went through many vids but this is pretty much the only class you need on this piece of kit. Many thanks Mr. Cuckoo!
Thanks a lot, man! Very helpful tutorial, the best that I’ve seen. Actually I’ve watched it for 3 times - when I bought it, after couple weeks and again after 3-4 months with it, and I guess not for last time) it has soooo much power inside this sweet “dandy box”!
Hey man, thank you so much. This video really helped me kick things off with my Model:Samples solidly. I appreciate you!!
Thanks for a great, in-depth walkthrough of this kit, Cuckoo. Just purchased a unit for use in our band.
This is by far the best explanation of the Model Samples! You helped me a lot to get to grips with it - way more helpful than studying the manual, really. So, thank you, cuckoo!🙏🖖
I love all your tutorials! Your intro alway make me laugh! But your the first one I go to when I get a new device to learn about it.
"Let's check out the Blastin"
Best Samples video, been watching daily waiting for mine to arrive, Today!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. It’s by far been the most helpful for getting to know this instrument.
I love your tutorials Cuckoo!!! Thank you very much! It's so much fun!
I get mine today :) Thank you so much, Cuckoo, for your excellent demos and tutorials. So good!
Excellent overview/tutorial, thanks. The simplicity/one knob per function of the Model:Samples appeals to me far more than the Digitakt.
A truly fantastic video! Very informative in an easy way to understand, inspiring and such a nice way of talking.
Great tutorial I have a model:cyles and just got the samples good refresher and touched on the differences. Thank you!
Finally THE tutorial!!
perfect timing, got mine today
Thanks, just got myself a samples and this tutorial has helped me get started.
Mega tutorial. You would!
😄 Definitely a cool piece. From what I’ve seen it is really great for performance. And serve’s those who wanted the pressure sensitive pads on the Digitakt.
Thx for the great tutorial Cuckoo! I wanted to know how the Fill-mode worked, and tadaa....right at the end of this beautiful tutorial. And I learned so much more watching the whole video, just awesome!
I'm new to drum machines etc. This fantastic tutorial helped me a lot with my decision on what 1st DM I want to buy. Subscribed and thx! :)
Easily the best models sample tutorial, only problem is, now I want one!
This video helped me so much. Didn’t even need to touch the manual.
Finally the tutorial is here! I love your Channel cuckoo, and specially your mega tutorials. You are such a huge inspiration and motivation for me to go on with my own music and videos. Thank you so much for your great work and personality. Keep it up!
this little machine looks/sounds great and decent price point, seriously considering grabbing this puppy
My Model:Samples is coming tomorrow, you should rename this video "The New Manual." SUPER helpful to see the effect of each function as well as hear it! Great content as always.
hello mr. cuckoo, you're a super hero. i appreciate you.
I have the M C just got the MS love your in depth tutorials! Can't wait to dive into the MS. I love these grooveboxes they're instant fun, especially with some effects pedals!
Great tutorial! Got one today and you made rhythm a breeze!
This is the very best tutorial of any instrument I’ve ever seen! Thank you for saving me loads of time in prep for our forthcoming tour of Canada! Loads of inspiration here & you have “the groove” as was once said about us! If you are ever in town when we touring, please feel free to contact us. Likeminded people are rare these days. Thanks again for this!

Excited about the line and would like to see how it ifluences future top tier products.
Thanks so much for your work in putting this together. Really clear, really helpful and perfect tutorial to learn by.
Watching this before I even make a purchase. This is very helpful for anyone deciding to grab this sampler. Thank you, True Cuckoo!
Seriously. I’ve been craving a Samples since I first saw it. I’m looking at Electribe2 and a few other grooveboxes. This walkthrough is making me _really_ want it.
35:00 this is something I've just started realizing before watching this video and was a driving reason I got the Yamaha CP73. Being able to do all of this live and dawless makes recording or going into my DAW so much better. Gets rid of post-work and lets me be organic and expressive.
Thanks Cuckoo, really unlocking this box for me.
Already a fan. A friend recommended you and his word is gold. Just got my elektron for fun to take a break from ableton
Awesome tutorial! You really have a gift for clear and practical explanations :) You are a great teacher, thank you so much for your tutorials, so thorough and efficient! Cheers
Thanks 🙏🏼
Great explanation, love the interface on the Models.
If ever there was a natural born teacher it would have to you. The clarity of your examples and your pacing is excellent as is your instinct as to what to present and what to emphasize. Truly exceptional.
You've convinced me to pick one of these up. Keep up the great videos!
even for the "simplest" elektron machine I was in need of a cockoo tutorial. Thanks :-)
