  • A 5 mile route starting and ending in Castleton, Hope Valley in the Derbyshire Peak District. The hike starts with a steep climb up onto the ridge above Winnats Pass where I was rewarded with a cloud inversion. I then walk across to the back side of Mam Tor, near the abandoned road and walk up the ridge line to the peak & trig point. Follow the great ridge down and then almost double back on yourself bringing you to the old road just above Odin Mine (remember your torch for this cave as its quite big and a great place to explore) There are lots of places to stop for lunch or a drink in Castleton so its well worth a look around, and while you're in the village see if you can find the most photographed house in Castleton.

You're very lucky to have such beautiful remote countryside where you live. I live in London where every bit of greenery has everyman and his dog swarming the place!

I remember Castleton very well, we sat in the car for over an hour listening to the torrential rain, hoping it would stop but all that happened - it got worse😳, so we gave up and went back to the hotel. Been to a few heavy metal festivals where the mud was like that but thankfully we never had to fog to go with it 😁, only the rain 😠. That 1% is always a good clue to safety and I would have done the same as you too. I always think of rain when I think of the Peak District, which is why we have only been once, watching this I now think of rain and, mud and fog, so cannot see me every going back 😂. Still, a good walk out no matter the weather is always better than being stuck indoors all day, cheers Alan

Hahaha!! Your luck with the Peak District doesn’t seem to be good.. but that was only once. The fog for me makes it so magical.. love getting above it and looking down onto it.. And you get the added bonus of less people too. That said summer hikes will always be my favourite 🤩

I love that people go out in their best trainers and white socks. Did make me laugh. Mam Tor, tourist Central, isn't it just. It's like watching climbers on Everest. I thought you said this was just a short walk? Got to be a good few miles. Did you check it on the watch/app afterwards? As for the wild swimming comments 🙄, I'd rather see the hiking ones. If someone is coming to channels just to see a young lady stripped down swimming then, well, you get what I mean. As for me? I'm here for the hikes, to pinch your routes, and to listen to your one liners. Great sense of humour and a great vlog as always. Thanks for sharing 👍

Ahhhh Thankyou very much.. it was 5 miles.. relatively short for me 🙃 but still nice. Glad you’re here for the hikes.. obviously there will be videos with me swimming in them but it’s still more about the swimming than the undressing for me 🤣 but each to their own hehe! And I have been to the trinnacles but if I have to pick I prefer the south peaks, just because I think there’s more variety for walks, water / valleys and even the pretty villages.. I love it all though 🥰🥰

Love watching your walks Char ,you did make me laugh with your 1% analogy for not going into the cave , do you ever use a route tracking app like Outdoor active to track your routes and then we can follow in your footsteps and if you use what 3 words app you can pinpoint the various places of interest on your walks like waterfalls, caves or historic buildings so we can do your walks and not miss them because you do go wandering off track sometimes 🤣 , Keep up the vlogs , you are an inspiration to many people to go out and explore the countryside.👌

Are you going up Snake Pass or up North to Ashway Moss and The Trinicles at all? The further North you go the better the hiking from what I have experienced. Irregardless, really enjoying the channel. Have you subscribed to a lesser channel like mine yet?🙄 Quid Pro Quo?

Love that part of the Peaks! When I went, I didn't go in the cave either, but that was because there was the sign saying about falling rocks... normally, I ignore them but inhadnybseen it there the time before when I went so thought it was new and had better keep out. I noticed the sign was there in this video, but you still went in the entrance, so maybe it's been there all the time, and I just didn't notice it. I'm annoyed now cos I wish I had gone in 🙄 loved this vid though and Mam Tor is such a beauty 😍
