I went to that pub when I was 15 with two friends. It was February and we caught the bus up from London. Then we walked around the Peak District. We hiked from Castleton, over Mam Tor, and down into Edale. It was pouring with rain and we were soaked. The locals let us sit by the fire and steam dry! Then, when the rain passed, we carried on to Snake Pass and stayed at the hostel. The next day, the snow came. By the time we got to the highest point of Snake Pass, the snow was thick. There were no cars, but there was a BBC news van filming the weather for the news. They made these three freezing-cold kids a cup of tea. It was an amazing trip.

The English countryside is indeed very beautiful, I lived in Northamptonshire for 44 years and in the summers you got what I describe as 5 colours, the yellow sun, blue sky, puffy white clouds, green landscape and lovely golden cornfields everywhere most summer days. We moved to Ireland, we do get nice days, but generally summers here are 2 colours, more grey skys and green landscape. I miss English summers. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

EDALE. My favourite place ...or one of them. I'm from Manchester and on my 13th birthday back in 1980 , I got a tent, got on a train and went camping in Edale with 3 mates. Good memories. The Old Nags Head!! There was a girl called Beryl that lived in the village (in THAT cottage) and I had a massive crush in her.

The thing about the English countryside, is that it’s all so very old. The houses are often 100’s of years old. And some parts rarely change at all. So most places will look the same as they did during ww1 and before.

I live literally 12 miles from where you are . Its one of the most beautiful places on earth . You have to respect it as in the winter months it could kill you but its still amazing when its snow covered . The secret of the peaks mostly is in the middle ages people built houses that blended in because they were built from limestone . What it gives you is a warm fuzzy feeling of days gone by when the country was at peace with each other. We like it to be a secret but its out now

I have a choice of the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales for the North Yorkshire National Park all within very easy reach.
