  • This was my first trip exploring the North East of England. I'd heard lots about it being one of the poorest areas in England so I really wanted to make my own mind up on the place. I'd spent hours looking on right move and finding houses in different areas around Peterlee that were selling for 20/30k, which is at least £100k less than the cheapest around me in Derbyshire. Anyway I wanted to see for myself so I planned a few days taking in some of the sights and trying to get a feel for the place.
    Day 1 I went to Hamsterley Forest and really enjoyed getting lost on the trails, the next day I headed to the coast. I must say the North East coast is very pretty, cliff top walks, beaches and the sun even came out for me, it really was glorious.

    Well that had abit of everything, through the woodland, some lovely countryside, along the coast was very nice, and then the town you went with some unsavoury people who don't appreciate life, that's how they live, great to watch tho, some interesting things to look at, nice vid enjoyable 😊❤

    Aaah, loved that contrasting sequence. Disturbing though, isn’t it? I’ve been involved in programmes to help people see their way into work and back to hopefulness. But I’ve seen the bleakness too, when communities include families that are three and even four generations unemployed. Considering ours is a modern economy, it’s an awful waste of human potential. Thank you for taking us along tho … that beach was lovely. 😊

      Always nice to include some of the lesser shown things to keep it real I think, it’s such a shame, and a massive contrast from the gorgeous sunny beaches at the start of the day. Thankyou for the kind words 😊

    Hey Char,
    A beautiful area that reminds me a bit of the Black Forest from the forest and the streams. In Germany, the further you go to rural areas, the more real estate prices fall. I had such an apartment in the Black Forest years ago and it was very cheap.
    Ilse and I used it as a holiday apartment for a while. But we sold them a year ago. Thank you for the tour of the northeast! I wish you a good start to the new week 🤗

      Thankyou Gerold.. yes it’s crazy how much house prices change across the UK. Thankyou, I wish you a lovely week too 😁

    Didnt recognise you without your cap on haha. The North East coast has some spectacular scenery and beaches so its unfortunate you seemed to have come across this run down town/village or whatever on your journey. My favourite is Whitby/Robin Bay with beautiful coastal paths. At least you got a good walk in and so some scenic coast line 🙂

      Yes I was further north than Whitby this time .. a beautiful stretch of coastline 😁

    It's a shame you seemed quite shaken up at the end there, there are some other really nice areas of County Durham, Teesdale is beautiful and well worth a visit. Hope your bad experience hasn't put you off coming to this part of the world again.

      It was a little bit scary, just how it changed past a certain point. Yes love it round them parts.. past close by on the pennine way I believe?

      The coast is beautiful and I think maybe the town caught me off guard a little bit .. just wasn’t expecting the contrast after such a lovely day 😁

    Might have to move to that town, bet rent is cheap, I might be able to afford it ha. Annoying about the salads not having a fork in now. Got one for work the other week was fuming.

      @barefoot_ventures  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes rents are more affordable definitely! Hahaha isn’t it just! How?! Why? They’re almost marketed as on the go .. I’m glad you’re with me on that! Salad fingers 🤣🤣

    It's mad how places that are surrounded by beauty can be that toxic?? Do they not know what they have on their doorsteps?
    I'm selling my narrowboat in February and going back to full-time van-life for a year or 2, and using that time to look for the right flat/house somewhere in the UK. Trouble is, I love travelling too much 🙄😏
    Are you looking to buy? or just inquisitive?

    • @barefoot_ventures
      @barefoot_ventures  11 месяцев назад +2

      Full time van life you can travel as much as you like though 😁 I did that a few years back too.. such a good way to live to stay free ☺️
