I want to make numerous kitty shapes throughout my puzzle as our family and husbands family are great cat and pet lovers. So of course one for dogs too is on the agenda. Paw prints across a puzzle would be fun or all around the borders perhaps. I have an older machine so not sure what I'll need to digitize and adjust all things just so but it'll be great once it's nailed because then you can remake with any future photos just following the same lay out with or without extra tweaking or slight design or personalized changes. Say someones name printed across in scrpt. Of course with my old machine that means that's a shape not able to do with a font built in like you can with the newbies on the market. Thank you for sharing these adorable puzzles plus working out all the kinks with the backboard too. (Not many cereal boxes in our house but I do eat shredded wheat and yes been saving them for a while now. My husband thinks I'm nuts cutting up not only the cereal box but the plastic like liners these days to use with intricate die cutting machine dies to help with weeding. Hi and thanks for the tutorial. I am trying to make a puzzle for my twin nieces but I do not have the "cereal" material in my custom materials. I believe I am up to date with design space but the closest thing I have is Light Chipboard in either 0.37 or 0.55. Which would you suggest and would you still put it on 3x cutting with the deep cup blade? Any help you could offer would be great! Your tutorials are always very helpful and straight forward. Thanks!!
I see the Cereal box material setting on my Maker, not my Explore, so that explains that. On my Maker, the Cereal box settings are pressure of 248, cut 3x, deep-cut blade. So either make a new custom material setting for yourself with these settings, or try the light chipboard at .55. I recommend you do a test on a scrap piece of material before you try it with your good materials.
Thank you so so so much for sharing! This is so easy to follow! I'm planning to make puzzles for my Girl Scout Brownies for a step of a patch set we're earning! :) Using a cereal box is genius!
Hi Jennifer. love your tutorials. I have tried this twice with the cereal box. Both times it cut in different places on different runs. I had pieces that were at least 1/4” off. I also could not get it to come off the mat without destroying the pieces. This was supposed to be presents for our Christmas party and I’m so discouraged. I’ve calibrated and recalibrated thinking I missed a step somewhere. Thank you
Sorry we're just getting back to you on this, but sometimes if it seems like it's not cutting all the way through, keep your project on your mat and loaded in your machine, and push the 'c' again. This will re-cut the image. But if you're having a problem with it mis-cutting, it's probably best to call Cricut and see if there's a fix. :)
Thank-you Jennifer! Full of great tips and ideas. Thanks for the breakdown on the chip boards. Looking forward to tomorrow because I haven't done any wood projects yet.
Thank you for the fabulous video!! I was so excited to try this project and I was skeptical about the cereal box being thick enough but I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing is, when I took it off my mat and it had practically cut through the mat 😱maybe for next time I will change the setting to 2x instead of 3x? But thanks for the puzzle template!!
I just love the puzzles! Going to make some for my grandchildren. I also have a HP printer. I have Cricut printable vinyl. What printer material setting should I use to print the photo and can I use the knife blade with the cereal box?

When using a cereal box, do the puzzle pieces seem to be too flimsy or not strong enough to hold up over time? Great video my wife and I use your tips on several things. Awesome!
Thanks so much for this video. I love all of your tutorials. Question, however, when I get to the attach stage of the project, my puzzle lines disappear on the canvas view. The puzzle lines reappear in the make view but the picture sits on top of the puzzle lines versus the puzzle lines being on top of the picture. I followed every step but am so confused about this one aspect of the project. Do you happen to know what this is happening? I am using my iPad for DS if that provides any additional info. Thanks so much in advance for your help in any case.
@@JenniferMaker Hi!! Thanks so much for responding to my comment/ question. I actually tried that and no success. Unfortunately, because of the issue, the project displays in 2 mats and the puzzle pieces do not cut the picture out properly. I'll keep trying until I'm able to figure it out. I'll update if I am. Thanks so very much for your help and again, for the video.
Hi Jennifer, this is amazing thanks for sharing. I have the Cricut Explorer three. I used the cereail box both times. One I used sticker paper the other I used printable vinyl. I have the deep cut blade. I followed your directions exactly but it doesnt cut all the way through. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do ?
Use the Deep-cut blade (for light chipboard) or regular fine-point blade (for Kraft board) and choose more pressure. jennifermaker.com/make-picture-puzzles-cricut/
You are such an excellent teacher. Thanks for sharing this info. I REALLY want to try my hand at making puzzles. I have a cricut explore air 2, I've been saving cereal boxes to practice with, the only thing I don't have is sticker paper and chipboard. :-( I am so ready to try...
The brand new deep cut blade is tearing up my sticker paper. I used a cereal box and did your instructions exact. The puzzle cut - but not as nice as yours. Thoughts?
Can we use Modpoge to seal the sticker design in, and should we do it before we cut or should we paint each individual piece with Modpoge when it's off the mat
Thank you for sharing your templates. I tried this on the Cricut Venture but the blade did not cut through the cereal box cardboard? Do I need a special blade? Thank you.
I have taken all the steps to make the picture puzzle, but when it’s time to cut. I can’t find cereal as the material and I get a message it will not cut. I have the cricut explore air 2. Any help will greatly be appreciated. Thanks
Good evening Jennifer, I recently purchased the Maker 3 and am wondering about a better medium to cut.I also have the 1.5 mm chipboard. Should I use the deep blade for this?
Normally you could use slice and change the words to your liking but this one also has the puzzle shape with it. You could take the plain puzzle with the heart and add text to that one by using slice.
Love this idea, but could I do this if I print the picture first without being on the cricut upload and then cut it? I don't have a way to print at the house 😕
This is so much fun! When I search for cereal box under materials though a cereal box option doesn't come up. Any idea? Or what other settings can I use with the cereal box to cut? Thanks!!
Great video! One question: when I follow your tutorial on this puzzle, my print comes out with the puzzle template lines printed on the image - in your video there are no puzzle cut lines on your image. How do I hide the pieces from being printed on top (visible if there is a tiny misalignment) but still work as a cut line for the Maker?
@@JenniferMaker I did exactly as you did in the tutorial - layer set as cut layer but still being printed with image. So I did the following: Print and Cut only the image (hid the aligned puzzle layer), then cancelled job after image printed. Returned to canvas and hid the image and unhid the puzzle layer, Print and Cut but chose Already Printed and only did the cut. Don't know why things come out differently but a lot has happened with this software in 4 years, since this video was made :)

You can select your puzzle line layer then tap Edit > Arrange > Move to Front and the lines should appear and remain on the front.
@@mrshendry08 Is your image set to Print?
@@JenniferMaker Yes. And the puzzle is set to cut. Unfortunately, my DS doesn't do what yours does in the video.
I made a puzzle on th weekend! This tutorial is awesome! Thanks Jennifer
Glad it was helpful!

Cereal box is a great idea!
Great way to recycle!
Such a fun idea! I may need to quit my job just to keep up with all these great projects!!!
Haha! Hard to find time to craft!
Do you think we can use the regular fine point blade to cut the cereal box? Or the knife one? The only ones I have 🥺
I don't believe so.
You are such an excellent teacher. Thanks for sharing this info. I REALLY want to try my hand at making puzzles. I have a cricut explore air 2, I've been saving cereal boxes to practice with, the only thing I don't have is sticker paper and chipboard. :-( I am so ready to try...
Best of luck on your puzzle! 💜
So cute!!!! I love it!!! Thank you so much Jennifer!!!! You are a true blessing!!!
Awe... thank you!
Love the tutorial. However, Ceral box was not one of the custom materials. How can I set it up to cut cereal box cardboard?
You can try the Kraft board or poster board setting🥰
The brand new deep cut blade is tearing up my sticker paper. I used a cereal box and did your instructions exact. The puzzle cut - but not as nice as yours. Thoughts?
Sheri, I would be using the standard fine tip blade for the sticker paper.
@@JenniferMaker I tried that - it did the same thing (tearing up the sticker paper)
Can we use Modpoge to seal the sticker design in, and should we do it before we cut or should we paint each individual piece with Modpoge when it's off the mat
I was just wondering that too!
I loved this tutorial. I want to give it a try but i dont have the deep cut blade can i use the regualr blade with come with the explore 2 for this ?
Yes, I go over three different materials and three different blades in the video. 💗
Thank you for sharing your templates. I tried this on the Cricut Venture but the blade did not cut through the cereal box cardboard? Do I need a special blade? Thank you.
No, you may need to adjust the pressure or set it to another pass in the materials settings. 😊🌻
Love this to pieces!
I see what you did there lol!!😉😁😁😁
Really cute puzzles!!
Thanks!
This amazing! I'd like to know how to put the puzzle in a border after cutting the pieces to arrange them. Please let me know. Thank you so much!
I grew up going on Disney cruises!!! Love Castaway Key!!!
I have taken all the steps to make the picture puzzle, but when it’s time to cut. I can’t find cereal as the material and I get a message it will not cut. I have the cricut explore air 2. Any help will greatly be appreciated.
Thanks
Use the fine point blade, Poster Board + and set your pressure at 333. You may need to cut it twice. :)
Jennifer Maker Thank you so much for responding and I hope you are recovering well💜💜
Hello Jennifer!! can the grain cardboard be replaced with the 1mm chipboard? Thanks for the reply
Yes of course!
@@JenniferMaker thank you! 🤩
Thanks for the tutorial and template, enjoy your holiday 😍😍
Good evening Jennifer, I recently purchased the Maker 3 and am wondering about a better medium to cut.I also have the 1.5 mm chipboard. Should I use the deep blade for this?
Deep-cut blade (for light chipboard) or regular fine-point blade (for Kraft board). jennifermaker.com/make-picture-puzzles-cricut/
@@JenniferMaker it sure did a number on my purple sheet.
I’m puzzled lol. I love live love this idea. Thank you. Question: how do I change the message on the puzzle?
Normally you could use slice and change the words to your liking but this one also has the puzzle shape with it. You could take the plain puzzle with the heart and add text to that one by using slice.
Cool! Have you ever made a larger puzzle? Or can I take the template and make it bigger (with bigger pieces)? TIA
You can certainly play around with resizing! 💗
Love this idea, but could I do this if I print the picture first without being on the cricut upload and then cut it? I don't have a way to print at the house 😕
Yes, you can do that.
@@JenniferMaker thank you so much
This is so much fun! When I search for cereal box under materials though a cereal box option doesn't come up. Any idea? Or what other settings can I use with the cereal box to cut? Thanks!!
Hmmm...What kind of machine do you have?
Great video. .Of course the printable sticker paper has a sticky side, but how do you adhere printable vinyl to the cereal box or light chip board.
The printable vinyl, should work similar to the sticky paper with a sticky back, remove the carrier sheet and apply. :)
hello, may I ask what is the brand of the printable sticker paper did you use? thank you so much. love all your videos
You need to have the layer with the puzzle shapes set as cut and do not flatten them with your image.🥰
Thanks for that great tutorial, if I used printable vinyl, then I put it on my heat transfer machine?
We didn't use HTV on this project so I'm not sure how well that would work, test it out and let us know! Thanks for watching!😊🌻
