Hi!!! Somebody help me please, I do all my svg imagen on inkscape, but every time I open them on cricut the sizes change to less than half. why is that?
It will be something to do with your document settings in Inkscape. I'm afraid I'm not that experienced with Inkscape to be able to say what it should be, so maybe try searching RUclips for someone who does Inkscape SVG tutorials as they might be able to help better?

I’m trying this but don’t understand why some buttons I need are greyed out like slice at the bottom and align at the top. Would you know why? I’m following your video exactly
The Slice button will only be available to click if you have precisely 2 layers selected. If you just have one, or if you have more than 2, then you can't use it. For "Align", you need to have two or more layers selected for it to be available.
Hi, I am trying to figure out how to place a shape and letters together, but I want the shape and the letters 2 different colors to place on a mug. Can you provide any advice or do you perhaps have a video that shows how to do this. For example If I take a green leaf and place text across it in purple. How do I set that up to cut it for the design using infusible ink. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I haven't used infusible ink before so I'm not sure how to do that, sorry :( You could try searching on RUclips for "layer infusible ink" or something along those lines?
Basic Cut is the same as Cut, you don't need to change it :) Design Space has changed a little bit since I recorded this video, so there might be other things that look a little different now.
I've never cut wood so I'm not sure, sorry. I don't think a design like this would work with a Cricut as your design needs to be at least the width of a pencil thick so your earrings would be big! A laser cutter might be better?
It should be a little easier now as Cricut have updated Design Space since this video was made so that when you use a script font, the letters automatically "touch" now and you don't have to move them manually. I should do an updated video :D
I have the joy and pro tip.. skip the monthly fees and buy SVG files of choice off Etsy.. I spend less then 10$ and got over 1000 files.. u can buy fonts ,preferred or specific files as well ..saved the day!!
No :) You can use the free heart shape instead and use the Offset feature and Slice to make a cutout in the middle, then use any font on your computer.
Hi Sarah, I'm pretty new to Cricut design space. I noticed that you have an option for a Line fill and so many more options compared with my cricut design space. I don't have the option to fill or unfill my shapes nor change the color of my line types. Am I missing something?
The fill option only appears when you have clicked a layer, e.g. an image or text, on your Canvas. If it isn't appearing even after you click something, please can you send a screenshot to sarah@craftwithsarah.com and I'll take a look?
Have you selected both layers of your name? If not, make sure you have selected both of them as the align button will only show up if you have more than one layer selected.
Thank you! For the font file, it depends if you are on a Windows computer, Mac or mobile device as it's different for each. If you are on Windows, simply double-click on the otf or ttf file that came with the font and a box should pop up with an "install" button. Install the font and then it will appear in Design Space. If you have Design Space open before you install the font, you will need to close it and re-open again for it to "see" the new font.
I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial :) I use a (very old!) Windows 8 desktop PC so I'm probably not the best person to ask. :D I would maybe stay away from Chromebooks though as I think you can only run the "mobile app" version of Design Space on them and not the full version, so you'd miss out on some of the features.
Hi Sarah. I got my heart from Google.and it is a SVG. SHOULD IT BE A SVG ?.. But when I go to contour. my contour won’t light up. do you have any ideas why this is doing that?? And
It is perhaps all one solid piece with no cutout in the middle? If there isn't a space in the middle then the contour tool won't be able to do anything.
It can be downloaded for free at design.cricut.com/ (but it's only for use with Cricut machines - it doesn't let you save files out for use in other programs)
Make sure you are only selecting two layers to do the slice with. If you have more than 2 layers selected then the "Slice" option doesn't come up - it has to be two layers
Why does cricut space makes things so complicated !! They know people used these kind of designs all the time, there should have a pre design available for these kind of things
I think that would be quite difficult to do to let you put custom names in, as it would depend a lot on the amount of letters you type and the shape you want. Design Space does add new features quite regularly to make things like this easier though. For example, since I made this video, they now have the "Kerning" feature on Text which means the letters of script fonts all "join together" automatically, you don't need to manually move them any more which does make adding names to hearts much easier. Maybe I should do an updated video?
Great video, have one question for you. I have noticed at the end of the video in the program when you had it completed ,on the bottom right I see purchase. Everything you create you have to pay through the cricut program? Beginner here, looking to buy a CRICUT machine.
I accidentally used a heart shape that was a paid file. There are lots in there you can use for free, or if you get the Cricut Access subscription you can use 100,000's of images for free. It was just bad luck in the video I happened to choose one that wasn't free and didn't notice :(

You will know if it happens to you as it's quite obvious. The middles of the letters (e.g. the "a" letters) become filled in so they would all turn black. So just check over your name after clicking "Weld" to make sure it hasn't filled them in :)
dude Sarah you're AWESOME! dude great job, you know some stuff, keep it up! I hope you kept it up I'm excited to learn from your channel and I'm about to find out if your still action (which I hope you are)
What is happening when you try? If you aren't able to click the "Contour" button, here are a couple of things to check: 1) Have you selected the layer you want to Contour? The button is only "clickable" when you have selected (clicked on) the layer first. 2) Make sure you have selected a "Basic Cut" layer, not a Draw/Score/Print-then-Cut layer 3) You can only Contour if the layer you have selected has shapes/gaps/different parts to it. For example, you couldn't Contour a solid circle as there are no "shapes" inside it to be removed. If none of that helps, if you email a screenshot/photo of your Design Space project (including the layers panel) to sarah@craftwithsarah.com then I'd be happy to take a look.

I am a beginner but my question. I have a design and in the middl of the design there is a red heart and the other part of the design will be white. This design will go on a tshirt but i do not know how to move the heart to go on its vinyl and the other part will go on white vinyl, can someone help me?
This sounds like a lovely project! Select your design and duplicate it so that you have two. Select one and click the Contour button in the bottom right of the screen. Click the heart that will be red and close the window. Now you will have the design without the heart. Take the duplicate that you made (the design with the heart) and click everything BUT the heart (or click Hide All Contours then click the heart in the window) and close the contour window. Now you will have the design but in two separate parts so that you can make the heart red and it will cut on a separate mat. Has that helped? 😁
The software is called Cricut Design Space and yes it is free, but you need to have a Cricut machine to cut out your designs, as it doesn't let you save the files to your computer.
You're very welcome! I have recently updated this video so that it's suitable for the current CDS updates, you might want to check that out, I uploaded the video recently. 🥰
Hi, Sarah, I followed your instructions from beginning to end many times in the end you said to weld the heart and name together and I keep getting two separate pieces of the heart it's not all together. Please help..
Hi Allison, please can you email a screenshot of your Design Space screen (or a photo of your computer screen) to sarah@craftwithsarah.com and I'll have a look?
Please make sure you only have two layers selected. The Slice button only appears if you have two layers selected - if you have just one, or more than two, then it won't let you do it.
Maybe someone else said this. It seems as though when you duplicate “Sarah,” you could make the bottom (or top) a different color to make it easier to see if they’re lined up.
It depends what you are cutting it with. For cardstock or adhesive vinyl you don't need to mirror. For heat transfer vinyl (HTV) then you should mirror.
Hello, I love the tutorial you shared! I have a question, do you have a tutorial on how to put letters across an image? Like a filled in heart with the letters written across it? Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.
This video might help: ruclips.net/video/WvQAJw690lw/видео.html I slice a name out of a pumpkin in the video, but you could choose a heart image instead of a pumpkin and follow the same steps.
I tried following along but kept getting confused with directions and I wasn't seeing the same things in my program that you had on screen. Disappointing because i really wanted to do this!
Hi Karen, this tutorial is a few years old now and Design Space has changed a lot since I recorded it, so it does look quite different now. I will add it to my to-do list to record an updated version :)

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Can you take a screenshot of your design in Design Space, including the layers panel, and email it to sarah@craftwithsarah.com and I'll take a look?
You need to download the otf or ttf files from DaFont, install the fonts onto your computer and then open Design Space and they will show up in the fonts dropdown.
I am unable to UnGroup my text. The text just is spacing out and still all together. The layers for text is still one layer. I have the Cricut Design Space v6.5.95

Thank you, that means a lot to me as I do try to keep them on the shorter side and "get to the point" quickly, but I'm always worried that I talk too much!! 😂😂
Thank you for a fun project. Your description is clear and makes this project obtainable for beginners. As I was trying to click on multiple pieces, I kept moving them around. That is when I realized the power of using keyboard shortcuts. Side Note: As a new user, I currently have a 30-day free trial of Access; however, I did provide Cricut with my credit card to hold and plan to pay for Access once my 30 day period is over. When I clicked make-it, I was surprised that the system asked for a nominal payment. It wasn't the cost, just did not realize that we still have to pay for some content, even with Access. In the end, I remade the project with a heart I made from the free shapes, using the slice function to obtain an outline : )
I love keyboard shortcuts, they make things so much easier :D For the payment, I accidentally used a heart shape for this video that isn't included in Cricut Access which is why there is a charge for it. I didn't realise until after I had published the video and someone pointed it out. Using the Slice feature on the heart shape was a great workaround :)
thank you you explained really well really simple and very calmly not to fast 😘

Click the heart that will be red and close the window. Now you will have the design without the heart. Take the duplicate that you made (the design with the heart) and click everything BUT the heart (or click Hide All Contours then click the heart in the window) and close the contour window. Now you will have the design but in two separate parts so that you can make the heart red and it will cut on a separate mat. Has that helped? 😁
What is the name of the package please and is it free?
The software is called Cricut Design Space and yes it is free, but you need to have a Cricut machine to cut out your designs, as it doesn't let you save the files to your computer.
@@CraftWithSarah Thank you very much for your prompt reply, Sarah!
I have been struggling w CDS. Thank you sm for this video. I use a Samsung fold 4. I'm hoping it's similar.
You're very welcome! I have recently updated this video so that it's suitable for the current CDS updates, you might want to check that out, I uploaded the video recently. 🥰
Thank you ! Such a simple and straightforward video. Easy to follow ! 🙂
Glad you liked it!! 🥰
Thank you for helping me out.
Happy to help!
Thank god I use Illustrator on the Mac and iPad Pro. Design Space would drive me nuts. I admire your patience, nice tutorial...
You can use Illustrator on Mac for Cricut?
You can design in Illustrator and then save as a SVG and upload it into Design Space.
Great tutorial- trying it now
Hope you could make some exciting creations 😁
Hi, Sarah, I followed your instructions from beginning to end many times in the end you said to weld the heart and name together and I keep getting two separate pieces of the heart it's not all together. Please help..
Hi Allison, please can you email a screenshot of your Design Space screen (or a photo of your computer screen) to sarah@craftwithsarah.com and I'll have a look?
I love this! Thank you ❤
loveed watching this! you had a lot of information and has helped me a lot:)!
Glad it was helpful!
I get everything up to slice and it wont highlight toclick theword slice wont I mean. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
Please make sure you only have two layers selected. The Slice button only appears if you have two layers selected - if you have just one, or more than two, then it won't let you do it.
@@CraftWithSarah ill try it and see I dont know if I paid attention .thank u for replying xx
Thank you so much! It's not as difficult as I thought it would be😊
Yay! That's great that you found it easier than you thought it would be! 😊
Great tips!! Duplicating and hiding before slicing!!! A game changer!
Glad it was helpful! :)
Maybe someone else said this. It seems as though when you duplicate “Sarah,” you could make the bottom (or top) a different color to make it easier to see if they’re lined up.
Great tip, thank you!
do you need to mirror?
It depends what you are cutting it with. For cardstock or adhesive vinyl you don't need to mirror. For heat transfer vinyl (HTV) then you should mirror.
Hello, I love the tutorial you shared! I have a question, do you have a tutorial on how to put letters across an image? Like a filled in heart with the letters written across it? Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.
This video might help: ruclips.net/video/WvQAJw690lw/видео.html
I slice a name out of a pumpkin in the video, but you could choose a heart image instead of a pumpkin and follow the same steps.
Learned so much from video today. Thank you for taking the time and explaining everything.
That's great to hear :) I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I tried following along but kept getting confused with directions and I wasn't seeing the same things in my program that you had on screen. Disappointing because i really wanted to do this!
Hi Karen, this tutorial is a few years old now and Design Space has changed a lot since I recorded it, so it does look quite different now. I will add it to my to-do list to record an updated version :)
why not just delete ALL the little pieces when you deleted others?
Because I wanted the letters to look "joined" to the heart :)
The slice is what I didn’t know. That’s awesome!
Glad it helped! :)
I couldn't do this. My program was way different on this cricut Maker
Design Space has had some updated recently so it looks a little bit different now, but the core functionality is the same so you should still be able to design something like this. Which part did you get stuck on?
Thank you for making this so easy to follow! I can’t wait to make my own designs!
I'm glad you found it easy to follow and I hope you have fun making your own designs :)
Hi I'm from Morocco I want to try this God but the decisions of a collection of negative comments about using the gods and they are hard to do you help me is the best kind ... thanks
Hi, do you mean the fonts?
Thank you for making this video. It is clear and easy to understand, and has helped me so much in being able to know how to create the design that i have in my head! 😊 I like the way you explain things, and i have just subscribed to your channel due to this. You are a blessing...
I'm really glad that the tutorial was helpful for you! Thank you so much for subscribing, I hope you find the other tutorials helpful too 😁
@@CraftWithSarah Thanks. I'm just working on it now, I think it will be a long job lol... I am sure your other videos will be a huge help to me too, again thanks you, your time is appriciated.
Thank you for easy to follow steps to do this, bee wanting to do this for a while , can i adapt this to draw on a birthday card, have liked and subscribed
I think it would work but it will draw around the edges (like a colouring page) rather than just one smooth line.
now how would go about removing the letters? because i cant fill in the color without it making the whole design that color... i have a design im trying to make into a shirt and im having issues with the color filling. i have two letters attached to the design same path. how would i go about removing it so i can make the letters one color without it effecting the design?
Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Can you take a screenshot of your design in Design Space, including the layers panel, and email it to sarah@craftwithsarah.com and I'll take a look?
This is a really cool design! Simple and really neat! Thank you for sharing and putting this together
Thank you!
My design space looks different. Are you using the online or the app?
This is the desktop version, however this video is over a year old now so Design Space does look a bit different now as they often release updates.
Why can't I pick align? Did I do something wrong?
Please make sure you have all the layers selected that you want to align. It won't show up if you only have one layer selected.
So clear and easy to understand! Thank you so much, new sub 😘🙌🏾
Thank you for subscribing!
Hello! how do you incorporate the font from DaFont on to design space?
You need to download the otf or ttf files from DaFont, install the fonts onto your computer and then open Design Space and they will show up in the fonts dropdown.
Im going to try it👏🏽 thank you🙏 new to your channel 🫶🏽
Welcome to my channel! I hope you enjoy making it :)
I am unable to UnGroup my text. The text just is spacing out and still all together. The layers for text is still one layer. I have the Cricut Design Space v6.5.95
Have you Welded the text? If you have welded it then you can't ungroup it any more.
@@CraftWithSarah I didn't weld but I closed the program and restarted. Did the same thing and now it is working! Sometimes I does work and sometimes it doesn't work. I am new to the Cricut world! Thanks for a quick response.
Thank you for this great tutorial!!
I just made a logo for my granddaughter’s T-shirt using your easy to follow steps and I couldn’t be more pleased!
Thank you for the lovely comment. I love that you used the tutorial to make a t-shirt for your granddaughter! :)
would this also work if i wanted to put the name in the middle? so the sides of the heart would have to be cut out?
Yes it sounds like it would :)
how did it come out? That is the part I can't seem to get right. It doesn't come out as one piece.
Have you used a font where all your letters are touching? 😁
Excellent video, thank you…
Glad you liked it!😁
You are a genius!!!! Thanks for the tutorial!!! I am a forever follower and CANNOT WAIT TO BINGE WATCH ALL OF YOUR OTHER VIDEOS!!!!
Yay! Thank you!! I'm glad you like the videos :)
I love you tutorials. They are so easy to follow and are short. Thank you!
Thank you, that means a lot to me as I do try to keep them on the shorter side and "get to the point" quickly, but I'm always worried that I talk too much!! 😂😂
Very easy to follow, can't wait to try it out! Thanks!
Hope you have fun trying it out :)
Hi how do I get my shape work on the design space it not work on my ipad
I'm sorry but I'm not sure as I've not used it on an iPad before, I always use my PC.
Thank you for explaining this so well was very helpful!!! Subscribed to your Channel...
Awesome, thank you!
What's application are you using
This is Cricut Design Space 😁
What operating system are you using? Windows, MAC, or Online? Great Video!!!! Very well done!
I use a very old Windows PC running Windows 8.1
I sure have!!! And I’m grouped them to make them touch as well. I think I failed to flatten them. 😊thanks for responding.
Ahh, yes! Is it working once they're flattened? 😁
