I love your work with the hearts, I have twin girls 6 months and this will make I so much faster and easier to make for t shirts. Your a life saver. I’m going to try this , wish me luck. Rose
Thank you! I've just got my cricut. And I need videos like this. I've found some great videos making projects but I'm only watching them for the design space tips. So this is perfect for me.
@@CraftWithSarah thank you so much Sarah!! Yes this is exactly what I meant ♥️ are they creating it as svg? If it’s image, it’s impossible to clean it on DS with many texts even when I use remove background websites
@@CraftWithSarah thanks, have you managed to make your words in order? i watched their youtube tutorial and followed the steps but somehow can't get the text to be in the same order as i wrote it, all what i need is the text to be written horizontal but the outside shape is heart for example, thanks Sarah for your help
Thank you for the tips on curving letters! Rather than dragging the letters, I like to use the up/down arrows in the X axis so I don't accidentally move the letters out of their vertical position before I'm ready.
Before you enlarge a word, write down it's W and H so you can make it large, weld and re size to the size you originally had it. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Love the accent! You are very easy to listen to and learn from. This has always seemed like such a hard thing to do until you made it simple. It also helped me get a lot of practice with the slice, weld, and contour tools. I made one for my sisters, mom and myself for a girls weekend we are doing together! I think they'll all love it
Thank you so much for the comment! I'm glad that the video was helpful. It sounds like you made some great projects! I hope you have fun on your girl's weekend :)
Absolutely awesome!!! What a fun what to create words!! Thank you for making this task so much less intimidating. Love it!! And you're instructions are so clear and easy to understand!! Thank you!!!❣❣❣
Hi Sarah - Thank you for this video. While you did it 2 years ago, it’s definitely most helpful. Hoping you can answer a question: when this type of design (no matter the shape &/or fonts), where do the cut lines & areas to weed out end up? I can’t visualize how this should look once cut & don’t want to be disappointed. Thank you!
You would weed away the vinyl outside of the letters, to leave the letters behind. I will be doing an updated version of this video early next year and will include a section of weeding the design :)
It will be easier to use a simpler font and one that's a stencil font so you don't lose all the middles of the letters. This video might help: ruclips.net/video/ZHH8lPryj9s/видео.html
It's a Design Space feature so it's not machine-specific. It's only on the computer version of Design Space though, not the mobile app so you can't use it on mobiles/tablets.
Hi Sarah. This is a great project. I just got my Cricut so I'm just learning. After I complete this in Design Space, what do you suggest doing with it? Cut it on cardstock and frame it? Do it in vinly and put it on glass? I'd like to make this for my Mom for valentine's day so would appreciate some ideas!
I would suggest either cutting from vinyl (but you'll want to make it as big as you can as those words around the edge will be quite tricky to weed - I should have used a much simpler font to make it easier!) or do it as a "print then cut" so it could go into a photo frame. To do that, place a white square or rectangle the size of your photo frame behind all your layers, center your heart onto the rectangle with the Align tool, then select all the layers (including the rectangle) and click the "Flatten" button (it's down the bottom of the layers panel, next to Slice/Weld/etc). This turns it into a "Print then Cut" image and your Cricut will cut around the edge of the rectangle so that it will perfectly fit into your frame :)
Yes, I have a Lovely Layering class which you can find on my website craftwithsarah.com or craftwithsarah.lpages.co/lovelylayering2023/ for the direct page 😁
I'm not sure I can share it as I used a system font and not a Cricut font, so I don't think it will be available for you to cut if I share the link, but I can try! Send an email to sarah@craftwithsarah.com and I'll give you the project link.
I learned a lot by watching your great video. Thanks for that. But I'm not sure what the finished project will be. Will Cricut cut out the heart as a whole or will it cut out each word and shape separately?
It will cut separately but if you cut it from vinyl (either adhesive vinyl or heat transfer vinyl) then it can be placed onto your project quite easily with transfer tape (adhesive vinyl) or with HTV it has the backing left on it so you can move all the words/letters together. You could use it on a t-shirt/hoody/glass frame/etc. If you use a script font for the small words like I did then I recommend making it as big as you can as those letters will be hard to weed! :D
This is very helpful. After cutting, how do you suggest finishing the piece? I am interested in making framed wall art. Could the drawing function also be an option for a framed piece of wall art, if using a drawn font?
I think that would work well! If you are going to cut the outside words then I suggest a simpler font than the one I used so make it easier to weed and transfer the tiny letters.
Thank you Sarah! I followed along with this video and I created the same thing with a friend's name and when I was done I wasn't sure how to print it and what to print it on. The card stock didn't work well and the vinyl was just too tiny to weed. What size were your letters? Did it cut out in the heart shape or did you have to weed them and then place each piece individually? Or does yours cut out in one piece?
I think with the font I used you would need to cut it quite big to make it easier to weed. If you were going to frame the design then you could put a white square behind it, flatten all the layers together and then use print-and-cut so it would print all the words rather than try to cut them?
I used a bit of a silly font really for the outside as it will be hard to weed!! If it was made big though, for a bag or perhaps a shirt then it should be fine. If you are using heat transfer vinyl/HTV/iron-on then don't forget to mirror your design before cutting.
I'm not sure, I think it should be available on Macs as long as you are using the desktop version of Design Space, not the mobile app. Perhaps try reaching out to Cricut support to ask them why you don't have it. It only appears for text, not images, so make sure you haven't selected a image layer. It also only works if you haven't Welded the text yet. Once you have Welded, the curve button doesn't appear any more.
I love this idea I have been using my Cricut for 4 years and I have Never been able to figure out how to do this ! But my question is if you always do the heart will it always come out looking kinda crooked ? Or is it suppose to look like that ?
I think if you put a bit more time and care into it than I did, and also if you used a more solid font that wasn't a script font (maybe Montserrat or Raleway which are free to download online) then you could match the outline of the original heart a little better :)
It depends what you are putting it on :) If you are using script font letters for the outside like I did, make it as big as possible as otherwise they will be hard to weed. This type of design would work well for a tote bag or t-shirt/hoodie but not very well for something small like a mug.
On the make it section the original heart has been removed but I didn't see it done in the tutorial, mine still has the heart and I don't know how to remove it?
Click on the heart layer and then press delete on your keyboard to remove it. Or if you just want to hide it so that it doesn't cut then click the "eye" icon on that layer in the layers panel.
I understand everything you did, but I’m curious as to what happened with your initial outlined heart? Did you hide it once all your wording was around it, and was it just used as a base for your wording?
As in the words would form the infinity symbol? I would try looking for an infinity symbol in Cricut Access, or find a SVG online, and use that as a guide on how to position the words.
Check the size of your heart is smaller than the maximum size that your Cricut machine can cut. You get that error if the design is larger than the Cricut mats as it can't cut it out that size.
@@CraftWithSarah that’s what I thought💔 is there a specific type or types of laptop you recommend? I have one and it didn’t last me long at all. I don’t want to buy one and have a problem again 😞
