    I have been a huge fan and defended this team for years and years. I struggle today to find something to defend about this team after the Bruins game. It is painfully apparent that the Leafs have no soul. The fact that they had to have a meeting regarding sticking up for each other is a glaring indictment of a soulless team. Is this the character that was brought in for some push-back??? It is not up to Reaves to go fight Marchand, that would never happen, but their are plenty of Leafs on the ice at the time and are in Marchand's weight class. Reaves could have done his part by crushing some star Bruins or run the goalie or anything that would let teams know that this is not acceptable, if it means a suspension, take it for the good of the TEAM. I Thursday was any indication of what this brand of Leafs are going forward, I will be hard pressed to support them.

      Kadri stuck up for his brothers two playoff years in a row at the cost of his own suspension and at what every armchair pundit called selfish and not thinking about the overall team progress in the playoffs...traded that following summer, goes on to win cup. Kadri was a warrior who bled blue and white for us while also being treated like crap for so many years. But like Clark he was a warrior who protected his brothers. I would even take Clark back even today at 57 years young...just put him on the fourth line, he could police better then 99% of what we have today.

  • @mattrix4200
    @mattrix4200 11 месяцев назад +37

    I hate to say it... but yes, Tavares needs to lose the 'C' on this team and it needs to go to someone like Rielly. We need someone who represents blue-collar hockey, Maple Leafs tradition, and an attitude of ''No loss is acceptable!'' At one point in time that was Tavares, but he seems to be ok with the idea of being a role-player now. The ''core 4'' doesn't have the leadership ability amongst them, and most of them only play half of the rink making it even worse... We need a change and we need it NOW! The value has never been higher for Nylander, and although he's the only consistent scorer we have right now, we could easily trade him for a hard-nosed defenseman and/or a 1(b) goalie. Time to change the character of this team!

    • @solarion9802
      @solarion9802 11 месяцев назад +2

      JT has always been an outsider on the "team". The "team"(really two or three teams) has an obvious hierarchy and it's Matthews, Marner, Nylander...........Tavares, Rielly.................................the mercenary crew. Tavares isn't even the problem. It's the character of Auston Matthews that's the problem. Were it not so, JT would never have worn a "C" in Toronto, Matthews would have. I've seen Matthews punched squarely in the face and come away laughing about it. He's easily intimidated and that crap flows downhill. If Auston Matthews changed...then the team would follow, but they're never going to follow the lead of John Tavares anyway.

    I watched the game & Marchand skated by their bench three times during the stoppage in play after the injury. And on 2 separate occasions later in the game, he did a slow skate by every player on the bench - literally within a foot of the dashboard. He probably did it more but TV didn’t catch it. He was almost begging them to get involved. A joke indeed but it’s what the NHL has become. This isn’t just the Leafs. It’s the vast majority of the NHL teams. And Shanahan, who was notoriously tough as a player & always stuck up for his teammates must have gotten a talking to from Gary Bettman when he became the “Director of Player Safety” for the NHL about his vision of turning the league soft. With some exception, Bettman has created a league where players no longer police themselves. And with Captains like Tavares who literally wouldn’t even look Marchand in the eye, It’s no wonder why they haven’t won a Cup since 1967.

  • @chr970
    @chr970 11 месяцев назад +11

    Had the 60-goal scorer jumped over the boards and laced Marchand, broke a hand in process, he would get the admiration of his team, and would win over new fans. This is twice now I’ve agreed with Sid, never did before. Btw his biting of tongue when Meredith offered that thought at the end was priceless. He is right. Tavares just sitting there, looking totally disinterested? That’s your leader? And all those ads where he looks serious at the camera…..intense….focused….what a joke. I see more cohesion on pick up teams. I do agree with her though on the announcement that they had a team meeting about this. They are never going to win. Maybe Liljegren will have a thing or two to say to his “captain” when he gets to see his leader’s response from the bench.

    To Devo's point about not wanting Matthews to get hurt, take a look at the clip from last year when Morgan Reilly and Brayden Point are chasing the puck and Point falls into the boards hard. Kucherov (Point's teammate) immediately jumps on Reilly and starts pounding him, no questions asked, and Kucherov is one of the most talented players in the league, and is not a big guy. Steve Stamkos then went after Matthews and made him look pathetic. Somebody needed to step up, especially when the Boston coach left Marchand on the ice for the next shift, I believe because he knew the Leafs would not do anything about it. I have felt for at least two years that this team needs a complete overhaul, and now I know for sure they need big changes.

    Leaving marchand on the ice following was a big ha ha to toronto and shows that other teams know the leafs are soft as a soup sandwich. It was a CLEAR indication and salt on the wound and the leafs have embarrassed themselves. Theyve solidified to the league that this year is no different and now they all know how to play toronto. Come in fast, hard and physical and the W is yours! Sad sad stuff to watch as a fan. No excuse eapecially after coach leaves him out there. To me thats a bigger statement then the incident itself and shouldve pissed them off as it was a test and the leafs failed bigtime. JT didnt even bark at him. Leadership trickles down and when your guys at the top are soft then this is what you get. Yes i understand taking bad penalties and whatnot BUT these are special circumstances and are part of the unwritten rules. Youd think theyd learn from last years playoff experience that physicality is a MUST in this league to go the distance. Boston not only injured your player but proceeded to rub it in straight up knowing theyre safe. This is bad for the leafs. Smh just brutal. I thought the word was that the leafs had gotten physical and tough this off-season..??!! That they added grit?? Thats what i was hearing and reading all around toronto, so.....where is it?

Personally I think this shows just how bad NHL officiating actually is and the fact there is no reprocution on that play after the ge by the league just shows how bad the league itself is. I'm a Bruins fan and I have to agree with you but remember when Bergeron who had a history of concussions, was knocked out by the Habs defender and Marchand came, took the guy down and starting punching like hell? Marchand is not afraid of anybody even at his small size and will stick out for his team. If the refs miss a call, players have to get in Marchand's face or give him a taste of his own medicine like Sid mentioned.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 11 месяцев назад

      Exactly. They always want to tinker on the edges, thinking bringing in certain players in the offseason or at the deadline will be enough. But making a change to the core strictly forbidden. The problem continues to be with that core. Yes, the core is skilled, and they bring excitement. But at the end of the day, they don't stand up for each other and they don't win when it matters. Yeah, they probably wouldn't get somebody as skilled as Nylander or Marner if they were to trade them. But they could get someone different than one of those guys that could change the attitude in that room.

    Guys like Wendel, Dougie, Darcy Tucker and Gary Roberts have been character Leafs; but they've been too few and far between.

    The reason the team is like this is because they have four of the highest paid players in the league that haven't earned their paycheck. Bring home the Stanley Cup. Then we talk wages. They have done nothing in the playoffs to deserve their contracts. I said it right from the beginning as soon as they did the last contracts. What did it get them? Past one round barely? It counts for nothing.

Joke.

    Ryan Reaves should have been sent out on to the ice. Bertuzzi laughing should be sent to the minors and maybe learn how to skate. Travares is only interested in his pay cheque. This team will be lucky to make the playoffs with what they have. It seems the media at the beginning of the year already had them in the playoffs. Maybe the Leafs think it is already gift wrapped for them (ain't gunna happen). The core 4 aren't exactly off the hook. Marner's giveaways are not mentioned either (versus Buffalo). Time to sit some of these guys until they smarten up but the problem is Keefe would lose his job due to these guys being softies and whiners.

  • @JJ............................
