      As crappy as it went for the Jays this series, like the other feller said, genuinely happy for the Twins fans. You guys had an amazing crowd and even though we screwed up at points and lost, it was a well deserved series win, and it was awesome that the Minny crowd loved it.

    Right on Sid. Between the immature, so called "stars" and a manager who is more concerned with being a friend with the players than being their boss, there has been absolutely no accountability on this team all year. If some of these players had been sat down for a game or two for mistakes earlier in the season, the mistakes made in the playoffs might not have happened.

    • @wainber1
      @wainber1 Год назад +1

      There was no reason to pull Berrios when the Jays‘ bench boss had done so. That pitcher had not been injured after all.
      As of now, I have watched just under 2:15 of the video in question so look forward to Sid’s claims throughout the rest of that segment. Yet before getting into such claims, there’s no doubt that although Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins have respectively been President and GM of that team from the 2015 Northern Hemisphere fall, the Jays have yet to win a post-2016 playoff game. If that fact alone isn’t enough to compel Rogers, the owner of that team, to turf those two executives, I don’t know what will. That isn’t to say that the firings of those execs will fix all that is wrong with the team, because I believe that hitting and base-running need significant upgrades, with it TBD how such upgrades will come.

    Analytics should have told them not to start Gauzman in game 1. The Twins owned him every time they played him. Analytics should have told them that the Twins are laying off his best pich, always low in the strike zone and usually not for strikes. Not one strike up in the zone all game. Analytics should have told them that their catchers can't call a game.

      I mean, you also can't reasonably expect to win a game 1-0. I really don't understand how they think its okay that you can do that. Gausman pitched great, one guy hit 2 pitches out of the park, whether or not one was a 2 run homer. That's still a 2-1 game. Gausman eventually adapted and overcame some of the difficulty and he got to a point where he fixed his approach to each at bat.
      Was it not great that he pitched game 1? Of course not, everyone knew that the Twins had his number. I still think it was one of the best games he's pitched against the Twins in his career, especially in a very high leverage game. However, he still had no run support.
      I don't need analytics to tell me that, this team can't hit good pitching. I also don't need it to tell me that majority of the players were putting in any effort to counteract that. Let alone the HITTING COACH OF ALL PEOPLE. its HIS job to make this team able to HIT THE BALL. ALL september long they couldnt hit against good/great pitching. What was the hitting coach doing this whole time? Sitting on his hands, expecting them to fix it themselves? The whole coaching staff needs to be fired. Except maybe Pete Walker because he has done some magical things with some pitchers but I still don't trust him in the dugout. Sid already gave a great opinion on Ross Atkins so I don't need to go there.

    As someone who got their degree in physics, and also played baseball all the way through high school, you have to have a feel for the game to properly use analytics. People who rely only on numbers don't get the full picture, and any coach or staff who only uses their gut aren't getting the full picture. There's an emotional aspect to games that you have to consider no matter what the numbers say. The Bills shouldn't have returned two TDs on kickoffs last year after one of their players almost died on the field, Trea Turner shouldn't have been able to go on a streak after just getting cheers from the crowd, there's plenty of examples in sports where the human mind changes the situation of statistics where the numbers don't mean anything. This was one of those moments, analytics are still very useful and in 99 percent of cases throughout the regular season, this was the right call. The lack of awareness for human motivation is what made this a poor decision.

    Unfulfilled potential. That's what I watched all season HOPING things would get better, and it never did. I knew they wouldn't even win this series, but I turned on the games anyway out of some personal duty I feel to this franchise, and got frustrated enough by the 4th inning that I turned it off. I thought that last year's crushing season exit was bad enough, looking at the faces of those players in the dugout as Seattle celebrated on OUR field, after they blew a 7 run lead. I thought that would be their wakeup call to recollect themselves, get focused, and put together a roster that could swing the bats and find reliable pitchers to close out games in convincing fashion. They went out and addressed what everyone knew were their shortcomings - leftie bats, faster base runners, and relief pitchers. The hype was real, and they had a decent roster on paper to start the season, and through sheer managerial incompetence and a lack of strong leadership to hold those men accountable, they never stood a chance. Top down clean out - send Atkins on his way, bring up James Click, and hire a new GM to provide them with some discipline and structure. John is a nice guy, a player's coach, but he cannot lay down the law, and it looks pretty obvious that many of his bizarre and ill-timed coaching decisions are ones that are not his own. This mess is not entirely on the players, this was just a poorly managed team that was too preoccupied with spreadsheets to put their roster in the best possible position to win.

    I fully agree. I've been saying some of these things for months: like bench Vlad until he gets the message not to be stupid on the bases, or worse, lazy on the bases. Schneider, who seems more interested in being a fiend to his players than a manager. Atkins, get rid of him.
    A very telling thing yesterday was just after the loss. Bichette, Vladdy, and a few other instantly disappeared into the clubhouse like spoiled little kids. Berrios, Gausman, Bassit and others, the players who've done all the work this year, sat watching the Twins celebration. The guys who stayed and watched are the players of character. The ones who scuttled off straight into the clubhouse are more concerned with themselves than with the team. Get rid of them.
    Oh yeah, and the tablets. I've been bitching about that all year. All that studying of iPad after striking out. It has never seemed to do a damn bit of good. What could they possibly be learning in a game situation watching themselves over and over and over and yet never getting any better?
