If Kadri doesn't get suspended then, you have the kadri line up against the Bergeron line, opening up both the Matthew's line and Tavaras's line. Like in game one. Matthew's didnt play as many minutes as he should have, after scoring 5 goals in the final 6 games, adding an assist. Matthew's and Marner should have been switched sides on the PP, so both could get their shots off right away. One timers by Matthew's would have given the leafs a much better PP. Marner could either pass across to Matthew's, sent it to the net or passed it back to Reilly for the one timer with Kadri and Tavaras in front of the net. But none of this happened and to make matters worse, the so called coach, has their leading goal scorer and point producer is on the bench with 5 minutes left, down 3-1, playing 14:58 of ice-time the entire game, at that point, with Hyman on the ice playing on one leg, its s miracle he played at all. Then puts Matthew's out for 2:40 of the last 3 minutes, when Boston made 4-1, with him on the bench. That's why they lost, horrible coaching and kadris suspension.

we have been excited about this since 1967 and before Shanahan we had always said maybe next year. Most Leafs fans keep saying how we will beat the Bruins with ease in the playoffs and how they are so old when in reality their roster was younger, tougher and just as fast as us. We lost and so many Leafs fans were wrong. Now I don't think getting a top right handed d man is necessary but this team certainly could have brought more toughness to this team and sign a guy like Maroon and Dehaan or someone else. Hopefully Ozhiganov and Borgman can actually make the team and play amazing because these guys are probably among the few that can play good solid defense, speed, size, grit, and toughness.

I watched the Leafs go to the conference final against the Carolina Hurricanes and the deciding factor as I remember it was goaltending and youth. This Leafs team has a player who could out score Mats Sundin, no they have two players who could out score Mats, wait maybe even three so early 2000’s was fun exciting but not disappointing. I was proud of those old guys for getting that far. Now we have Morgan Rielly in the back end. Zaitzev, Sandin, and Liljegren. I don’t know what to be worried about for defence. Syd is hurt by the past. One he has experienced longer than me being born in 1988. But this does seem a lot different, if not on par with that leafs team at the beginning of the millennia.

I'm no Leafs fan, but SId's main argument here seems to be that fans are elated on the reason that they won one pre-season game, and since they haven't won in a long time, it's somehow wrong to be excited for the future of a (currently) good team. I think the reason they're so excited this year is because the Leafs have been trash for so long, and now they finally have something to cheer for. They had a good season last year, got better this off-season, and IMO are right up with Tampa with their chances of finishing first in the East. I think any team's fans would be excited, regardless of their past failures. This was a bit of a surprise. I'm not a Leaf fan, but I would be excited about the team this year. Hopefully they get Nylander signed, it might be a stretch that they will be able to sign the whole core... but who knows. I'm very interested to see how they perform this year.

Toronto signed a huge superstar player and has a good young core. It isn't wrong for fans to be excited to see what could come in the future. And I am not even a Toronto fan. It is April 29, 2023. The Leafs have finally broken the curse and have won a playoff series for the first time since 2004. The Lightning have no draft picks for the first five rounds in 2023 without winning a playoff series because of the moronic trade that Julien BriseBois made for Tanner Jeannot. But in the end, Sid was right. They were far away from winning a playoff series. This was September 2018 and it took them five seasons after this video was put on RUclips to win a series.

To me, d-men don't win championships, elite centres do. Plenty of teams have won without top flight defencemen, very few won without a centre. In fact, probably since 1995, every team had elite centres in their lineup. The leafs are the 2nd best team in terms of centre depth. They have chance for sure if they can play defence as a team.

For the leafs to win the cup they need to sign and trade Nylander for defense help and Gardiner needs to leave Toronto. It is fun watching the leafs again. As a non-Leaf fan who lives in Toronto he’s right about Leafs fans overhyping things. A month into last season I saw some leaf website say that they were the “best team in the NHL”. It’s ridiculous. The Leafs still have work to do before they can be a legit Cup contender.

I generally enjoy these guys, This is nothing new to any realistic Leafs fan though. This Schtick is unneeded and I think his feigned vitriol is actually even for ratings or misplaced. Although I don't buy the The odds makers and think there are teams who are more complete than the Leafs right now. Once you get to the playoffs anything can happen and recent history has shown teams that are not necessarily known for outstanding D have won it all. The Leafs will be a relevant team for the next decade or so, perhaps longer but winning the Cup is no easy task for anyone no matter who it is.
Leafs fans have every right to be excited. They will probably actually win a playoff series this year, and then get sent home by Tampa in round 2. That's still an improvement.

Most coaches in the NHL never see the finals let alone win a Cup so I’m failing to see your attempt at a point. He was a great coach in Anaheim and an even better coach in Detroit. Hopefully he continues the trend. Unfortunately the mouth-breathers from other fan bases are so blinded by their disliking of the Leafs that Babcock became “overrated” the minute he landed in Toronto.

I watched the Leafs go to the conference final against the Carolina Hurricanes and the deciding factor as I remember it was goaltending and youth. This Leafs team has a player who could out score Mats Sundin, no they have two players who could out score Mats, wait maybe even three so early 2000’s was fun exciting but not disappointing. I was proud of those old guys for getting that far. Now we have Morgan Rielly in the back end. Zaitzev, Sandin, and Liljegren. I don’t know what to be worried about for defence. Syd is hurt by the past. One he has experienced longer than me being born in 1988. But this does seem a lot different, if not on par with that leafs team at the beginning of the millennia.
All of those guys are puck moving d man and none are tough stay at home d man or elite two way d man. Liljegren may become an elite d man but he ain't going to be that bone crushing d the Leafs would love to have. Imagine if we had a guy that can be a Pronger 2.0.
Sorry. Leafs fans (regular hockey fans as well )deserves to be happy and very overjoyed about Leafs players and their organization. They should be.
They are ones putting money into these owners and gm pockets .
They are fun to watch and moving in a great direction with unbelievable talented players ..They are a very damn special team..Leafs can be more dominant in next 2-3 years with 1-2 new blue liners on the D Corp..

I'm no Leafs fan, but SId's main argument here seems to be that fans are elated on the reason that they won one pre-season game, and since they haven't won in a long time, it's somehow wrong to be excited for the future of a (currently) good team. I think the reason they're so excited this year is because the Leafs have been trash for so long, and now they finally have something to cheer for. They had a good season last year, got better this off-season, and IMO are right up with Tampa with their chances of finishing first in the East. I think any team's fans would be excited, regardless of their past failures.
If Sid truly believes that past playoff failure means that you shouldn't be excited for future playoff success, I'd like to direct him to Caps fans

As a Bruins fan, I love that the Leafs didn't improve their D-Core. Let Bruins v. Leafs happen in the playoffs again, yes I'm biased but I have full faith that we can beat them in a 7 game series.
This was a bit of a surprise. I'm not a Leaf fan, but I would be excited about the team this year. Hopefully they get Nylander signed, it might be a stretch that they will be able to sign the whole core... but who knows. I'm very interested to see how they perform this year.

Toronto signed a huge superstar player and has a good young core. It isn't wrong for fans to be excited to see what could come in the future. And I am not even a Toronto fan. BTW, the Leafs even in the 90's and 2000's were winning playoff series. It's not like they have just been a "joke" for 50 years.

The Lightning have no draft picks for the first five rounds in 2023 without winning a playoff series because of the moronic trade that Julien BriseBois made for Tanner Jeannot. But in the end, Sid was right. They were far away from winning a playoff series. This was September 2018 and it took them five seasons after this video was put on RUclips to win a series.

+Philip ... Yes. Defence does win championship, but the last 3 cup champions have proved that's team defence and not really having top d-men in the lineup. To me, d-men don't win championships, elite centres do. Plenty of teams have won without top flight defencemen, very few won without a centre. In fact, probably since 1995, every team had elite centres in their lineup. The leafs are the 2nd best team in terms of centre depth. They have chance for sure if they can play defence as a team.

Great rant by Sid here. Really nice to see him keeping his unbiased opinion. Massive Leaf fan here but I am realistic about the situation we are in. This team has an explosive elite offense without any defense. You can outscore teams in the regular season but what happens when the playoffs roll around? Morgan Reilly is a stud but he is an offensive D man. This team will not win a Stanley Cup with this D core. For the leafs to win the cup they need to sign and trade Nylander for defense help and Gardiner needs to leave Toronto. It is fun watching the leafs again. As a non-Leaf fan who lives in Toronto he’s right about Leafs fans overhyping things. A month into last season I saw some leaf website say that they were the “best team in the NHL”. It’s ridiculous. The Leafs still have work to do before they can be a legit Cup contender.

I generally enjoy these guys, This is nothing new to any realistic Leafs fan though. This Schtick is unneeded and I think his feigned vitriol is actually even for ratings or misplaced. Although I don't buy the The odds makers and think there are teams who are more complete than the Leafs right now. Once you get to the playoffs anything can happen and recent history has shown teams that are not necessarily known for outstanding D have won it all. The Leafs will be a relevant team for the next decade or so, perhaps longer but winning the Cup is no easy task for anyone no matter who it is.
