      It is hard to get out of OSUs shadow. All of the media in this market goes directly to them. Their recruiting gets more press and respect than the Jackets. We will not get anything unless we win the cup. And im not saying once we win it will be respect from there on. Im saying if we don't win the cup that particular year, outside of the fan base we will not get respect.

Lou had them on the right track. Curtis McIleney 2.14 GAA average as back up and Idiot Dubas puts him on waivers. Everyone of Dubas contract negotiations he was pickpocketed and fleeced! I dont watch a ton of leafs games since im a Sens fan, but i never understood the Tavares signing. They should have kept kadri and signed a top 2 Dman and a 3rd line Center. They would still have money to burn to fill out any empty roster spots

    • @drivethru6155

      @@BoloHawker Hey fellow Sens fan! Yeah for our team that doesn't pay players the Tavares signing was an exercise in excess. I agree with you, they could have gotten a good 3rd line center and, if they could find one, a top 2 defensive D-man. In hindsight they should have resigned Hainsey and let Ceci walk as a UFA. Getting rid of Zaitsev's contract was good for them, and okay for the Sens if Connor Brown is resigned. We likely even got Artyom Zub thanks to getting Zaitsev, who also came from the KHL, so another bonus there

      @@drivethru6155 crazy how two teams in the same province can be so different. Ottawa doesn't pay their players, and Toronto pays their players too much lol. If Toronto had not signed Ceci, Tavares and Kept Kadri, the leafs would have a crazy amount of Cap for someone to play 3rd line. And for the right price theres always a Top 4 dman available somewhere in the league. I think the Leafs main issue is Dubas being to generous to his players

      Thats Canada as a whole, their obsession with hockey is a double-edged sword and its probably been a major factor as to why a Canadian team hasn't won the cup in 27 years. I'm not surprised there are players that refuse to play in Canadian markets, they'll be built up as gods for the slightest success and be torn down the next in an instant, why do you think Phil Kessel was more than happy to get out of Toronto for Pittsburgh?

    • @jimt8948

      I’m not buying this “it’s the Toronto or Canadian market.” That’s garbage. I’m so fed up with this garbage excuse.

      @cousinpatsey2471 4 года назад

      I think you got it backwards. They know that every mistake gets blown out of proportion, they know every drought is scrutinized. Sure, the good stretches are great. But every single person talks about the pressure of playing in that city for a reason. Players aren’t idiots. They know the city will turn on them with a bad stretch.

    • @jimt8948
      @jimt8948 4 года назад

      Cousin Patsey you need to go back and read what I wrote above. Football (soccer) players in England, Italy, Spain, Germany play week in week out in front of rabid fans and media and thrive on it. So no, I am not for one second going to accept that Leaf players can’t put on their big boy pants and deal with pressure in the same manner. The Toronto fans/media is not an excuse for the extremely poor performance of this team over the decades.

    • @cousinpatsey2471

      I wasn't responding to you initially. That's why my comment was much more about rebutting the OP's points than yours.
      Different sport, different culture.
      And yeah, actually, the media IS an excuse for some players poor performances over time. You can't subject players to unreasonable standards, then blame them when they aren't met immediately. Leafs lose three games, the sky is falling and the media wants trades on major players. Happens every year.

We got to pay him whatever it takes to make sure he stays and signs before training camp"...Dubas allowed a RFA take him to the cleaners. A RFA has ZERO LEVERAGE. They either sign a contract, sit at home (which decreases their value), or get traded. A RFA can't shop their services to the highest bidder. They can't play the market. Why let a RFA walk all over you the way Dubas let Marner walk all over him? I would have offered Marner $7.5-$8.0 million (which is fair, considering what Tkachuk, Point, and Aho got paid). People realize that the Blue Jackets are and have been a really good team for a while now and yes, Torts should win the Jack Adams for like the third time in his career. No one is taking anything away from Columbus. Also, many of us are rooting for you to knock off Tampa again. Their defense is great. Enjoy it and stop trying to find things to get upset about.

      Nate S ahh yes Tim mentioned Jones and Z but said (paraphrasing) “Wear them down and they won’t be good”. That’s the extent of mentioning CBJ. All I’ve heard in Columbus for 2 weeks is “Matthews this” “Tavares that”. Other media markets give credit to where credit is due to their competitors. Go back to their videos covering the Tampa series last year and all they talked about was Tampa choking and not CBJ stepping on their throat.

    • @nates9029
      @nates9029 4 года назад

      @@derrickjohn411 - I do agree that last year Sid especially said that Tampa was responsible for their loss and that Columbus would lose in the next round in 5. Again, you are listening to a Toronto station. Columbus hasn't gotten the respect it deserved because prior to last year, they had never won a playoff series. Teams like the Caps that actually played them in the playoffs knew they are a tough team. Columbus shut out one of the most potent offenses in the league twice in a 5 game series. The Toronto media market is going to first focus on their team and then, grudgingly, give credit to the team that beat them. Most markets would be like that. I didn't listen to Pittsburgh media after the Caps beat them a couple of years ago but I'm willing to bet they spent more time talking about the Pens and their issues than they did giving the Caps credit and that is fine. That is what I would expect. Their team just lost. Look, I think you are just looking for reasons to be upset. I don't know anyone that is taking Columbus lightly. When the Caps won the Cup, our first round match up with Columbus was tough. Last year, Columbus took out one of the best regular season teams in NHL history. This year, after losing several of their best players, Columbus took out one of the better offensive teams in the league. I think you'll beat Tampa in the next round. I really do. Columbus matches up well against them. Tampa will likely be looking for revenge and I actually think that helps Columbus even more because then they will be more prone to making mistakes to make a point and avenge last year. If your goaltenders play the way they did in the 1st round, I could see them making the Cup Finals. Take it for what it is worth but I think you should enjoy this run and not worry about what anyone from the Toronto market has to say about anything. Even IF they don't want to give your team credit for beating them, it doesn't matter. Your team is still moving on and they aren't. Your team has a very good chance of making the Cup Finals and winning the Cup and they don't.

    Tonnes of skill, but no killer instinct. Enough skill to create a dynasty, but they don't play tough enough. Look at the great teams from the 50's to the early 90's. Those guys were animals. Now all I see, are a bunch of kids with skill that made the NHL because their parents shelled out enough money for them to make it there. Not because they wanted it bad enough. Not because they fought for it.

    I don't think anyone should be surprised and there is no need for excuses. The Bluejackets and Leafs are counters to each other and for this reason either team could have taken this series and why most predicted it being 5 games. CBJ are an impenetrable wall with few offensive weapons and the leafs are a glass cannon. There's a lot of talk that the top 4 forwards of TOR are being paid equivalent to the entire CBJ forwards, similarly (although not as ridiculously) CBJ top 4 defensemen are paid equivalent to the entire TOR defense. CBJ play a frustrating style, basically its like they're on the penalty kill during 5v5 and feed off of the turnovers for offence (borefest tbh, but it works). They kill the momentum of the play going into their zone, then box out in front of their net keeping everything to the outside. Its like the equivalent to parking the bus in soccer and is how weaker defensive teams are able to beat better rounded teams. TOR lost because they allowed this to frustrate them and that is directly related to errors in the coaching and leadership in the dressing room. That along with some bad puck luck and two really hot goaltenders is the simple reality in my opinion of the result of this series.

    A stifling defence will always make it almost difficult for a free wheeling offence to function. In the current playoff format, taking into consideration how the refs call the playoffs as well, defence is key, and hard work, and consistent hard work (not just with 4 minutes left) the whole game outlives skill pretty well all the time.
