Billionaires buy teams for their personal prestige, ego validation and to turn an eventual profit on the appreciation of the franchise. Melnyk runs his team like he’s operating a convenience store.
This whole organization went to crap when they missed out on the Taylor hall trade, cause melnyk was out playing golf instead of answering his phone. He missed out on a piece that would have gave them that push to get a cup the next season. Instead of the top guys owning up to their mistake, they tried to save face by bringing in Duchesne. It's kinda like losing big in a poker hand and then trying to recoup your loses. It never works, you just keep losing until you got nothing left.
