CHAD STOUT it’s more about what they already have done. It’s about being fuelled by a rage the likes of which the league has never seen before after being considered naturally dead for much of their existence up until 2016-17. You can’t sign or trade for that. Whether they beat Tampa or not they will not being going away soon.
Viceregent of/du Canada I am not familiar with Columbus’ prospects or who is coming up the pipeline, but they need a lot of help up front. Dubois is really solid and Foudy looks great. Jenner and Foligno provide some veteran grit, but I think ideally those guys play further down your lineup. Atkinson is unreliable. 40 goals one year, 12 the next. The only player who didn’t register a shot in today’s game against Tampa. That’s right - for BOTH teams, the ONLY player who didn’t register a shot on goal was Cam Atkinson.
Nyquist, Bjorkstrand, Nash, and the rest of their forwards are serviceable but unremarkable. They struggle to generate offence that isn’t the result of a point shot or a scramble. Again, look at the game today. It was tight, but Columbus had no business being in the game. Tampa Bay pulverized them. It was one of the more one-sided playoff games I can remember watching. Luckily for Columbus, Korpisalo is really dialled in right now. He looks excellent.
All this to say they may remain a pesky team to play against, but without an injection of skill I don’t think they will be making a deep playoff run anytime soon. Now that I’ve said that, I’m sure they’ll win the cup this year to make me look like an asshole lol

@@nijaethompson7647 yes I know that, it was orignally suppose to be both CFs and the SCFs in Edmonton. But...the players were originally told their immediate family could be there also. Although the NHL, did not have that accomplished, they were really just working on that, time ran out. I do know some players were kind of upset their wife's and/or very young babies could not be there for the end of the series. There was a few who had family there too. I know Coleman's parents were there, Killorn's Father, I'm not sure who else, but Corry Perry's wife was there too. I think for some who did not live in Canada made it harder, travel, protocols, and testing. I sure hope a working vaccine comes quickly.

To everyone saying that the legacy is over. The leafs only got past the first round.
They then proceded to lose to a team who they LET GET INTO THE PLAYOFS. Look up the stats going into the March 29 game between the Panthers and the Leafs. Going into the game, the Panthers were on a four game losing streak and sat three points out of a playoff spot. The Leafs had a 2-1 lead with LESS THAN TWO MINUTES LEFT IN REGULATION!!!! They lost that game in OT! The rest is history. Ouch!

I'm starting to wonder whether it's still worth it anymore. Watching the Raptors win the championship pretty much fulfilled my championship desire anyway. :-) No sense waiting around for the Leafs anymore now.

2023 NHL PLAYOFFS ROUND 1
Game 1:
Well, that is not how you want to start the series against a team that made it to the Stanley Cup finals three times in a row. You got absolutely spanked by the Lightning who erupted for 4 power play goals in a 7-3 blowout win
Game 2:
Ok guys, you pulled an uno reverse card on the Lightning and beat the brakes off them with a 7-2 victory. However, Tampa stole the home-court advantage with the series heading to Florida.
Game 3:
Holy moly, what a game for the Leafs. Tampa played with the advantage throughout the game, but you made it to OT, thanks to Ryan O'Reilly's goal with one minute left in regulation and outstanding performance by Ilya Samsonov. However, I still do not think..wait a minute, you won after Morgan Rielly's goal? Well, ok, let's head into game 4
Game 4:
Well, this time you are not so lucky. Tampa is on the mission in this game. You are down three goals halfway through the third period. So, the series is back to Toronto with two games...WAIT, WHAT? You just scored three goals in seven minutes to tie the game? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? And now we are headed to OT once again
Game 4, Overtime:
Holy crap, you did it. YOU DID IT AGAIN. Alex Kerfoot with a game-winner and the maple Leafs have a 3-1 series lead back to home ice. The Toronto Magic is here, now finish the Lightning off!
Game 5:
Well, we all knew that it is gonna happen, didn't we? The Leafs once again were down in the third period, tried to mount a dramatic comeback, but fell short because of the Tampa's bottom-6 performance and Andrei Vasilevski moving back to his prime form. Now series is headed back to Tampa for game 6.
Game 6:
Game 6 turns into an absolute slugfest. Neither team can score for more than half of the regulation time, but the Leafs are holding a 1-0 lead heading into the third period, thanks to Auston Matthews' one-timer. However, Tampa responds in third with a Stephen Stamkos' goal. And now we are going to OT. Again.
Game 6, Overtime:
Holy crap. HOLY COW. IT. HAPPENED. The Toronto Maple Leafs eliminated the Tampa Bay Lightning and MADE IT PAST THE FIRST ROUND. John Tavares, the local kid and captain, became the hero in overtime! Steve Dangle and the fanbase finally have something to be happy about.
So, now you have to face your ultimate boogieman: the Bru...OH MY GOD, THE BRUINS LOST IN THE FIRST ROUND AFTER BLOWING A 3 GAMES TO 1 SERIES LEAD TO THE FUCKING PANTHERS! 135 POINT SEASON ONLY TO LOSE IN THE FIRST ROUND!
So now the Leafs have to fact a mad dark horse team in Florida Panthers.
2023 NHL PLAYOFFS ROUND 2:
Game 1:
You lose 2-4 to the Panthers in a back and forth showdown after coming back from 0-2 deficit. Better be ready for game 2.
Game 2:
Ok, you start the game very well and up two nothing at the beginning of the first period... Only to give up three goals after that. The Leafs have almost entire two periods to score, but unable to do so because of Panthers' mature playing and Sergei Bobrovskiy moving back to his Vezina form for a second game in a row. You are down 0-2 in the series and in a big trouble, cause now series is heading to South Florida.
Game 3:
Well, your season is pretty much over. Panthers won game 3 by the score 3-2 in overtime, despite not leading for a single second before the game-winner by Sam Reinhart. All you have to defend now is your pride, cause if the Leafs made it to the second round only to get swept, that would be hilarious.
Game 4:
Well, ok, you avoided a sweep by winning game 4 on the road with a 2-1 score, thanks to goals by Nylander and Marner. Now, you are flying back home, good luck in game 5.
Game 5:
No, there will be no miracles for the Maple Leafs this year. You mounted a comeback after being down two goals and forced OT only to fall there, thanks to Nick Cousins' game-winner. The fanbase is sad once again.
At least, this playoffs is better than everything you have produced for the last 19 years. Better luck next year.
2022-23 NHL Season: Debriefing
At least, the Leafs' fans have hope and not just misery after the playoffs. The Blue And White Brigade finally made it to the second round, so there is hope that cup drought would finally end. However, some major changes may take place in the offseason, especially at the head coach position.

2021: Ok, this is the year, Joe Thornton, Wayne Simmons, Jack Campbell playing like a god this has to be the year. You won your division, Mathews won rocket Richard and you’re playing an underdog in the Canadians in the first round. Oh, there goes Tavares, we’re fucked.
Luckily Tavares’s injury inspires the team to go up 3-1, you’re going back to Toronto with a chance to take the series, you just erased a 3-0 deficit. This is it.
Aaaaaaand you loose in the first minute of overtime, ok, head back to Montreal, you can still win this.
And look at that, you laid another egg in overtime. I’m not even going to pretend you have a chance to win game 7, your fucked.
Yep, there we go. You just choked a 3-1 series lead. On top of that, you now hold the record for longest cup drought in history. Congratulations. You blew it.

2022: Holy cow, this teams great. Mathews has 60 goals and won another Rocket Richard. Marners having a career season, they found a new instigator in Bunting, they were even able to pick up Mark Giordano at the deadline. And now they have a series lead against a division rival? I haven’t been this exited about this team since… oh, right, last year. The leafs are able to find new ways to piss away a series when they blow a 3-2 lead in the third of game 6 to lose in overtime and then lay yet another egg in game 7. But sure, you can blame the refs. It’s totally the reason your 0-10 in elimination games.
2023: Jack Campbell betrays the team and decided to sign with the inferior oilers. In what totally wasn’t a panic move they get Samsonov and Murray to be the goaltending duo this year. Hopefully this works.
It works to perfection, despite a slow start Samsonov rises to the occasion and the leafs are once again cup contenders. They go all in at the deadline. O’Rielly, Accari, Luke Schenn, McCabe. Again, totally not panic moves. This team is cup bound, forget the last 7 years they don’t matter. They even get to finally win a series, not only that, it’s against the team that beat them last year in the lightning. Yeah, f*ck you and your dead f*cking dynasty. It’s the leafs time now. Just imagine the glory, Tavares and Giordano getting long awaited cups, the years of failure being washed away and this roster being solidified as legends, the parade down Toronto. It will be beautiful. Then you wake up and realize it’s only the second round. The leafs get their dicks kicked in by the panthers. You heard that right, not the bruins. The fucking panthers. It wasn’t like it was close either, it was a gentleman’s sweep. All of that for just 5 games in the second round. Back to the golf course with you.
2024: You know what this team needs, physicality. Domi and Bertuzzi can be signed to one year contracts. We’ll also get Reeves on an overpayment cause that’s what teams pretending to be tough do. You might say that their defence is still incredibly lacking and Samsonov is not a true starter but that doesn’t matter when Austin Matthews scores 69 goals. That boy just earned himself the most expensive contract in the league. Why pay for defence when you can just outscore your problems. Nylander can also get $11 million. He is the only forward to show up for the leafs in the playoffs after all. Matthews gets pulled out because of food poisoning of all things and Marner’s too busy bickering on the bench to do anything. They still force a game 7 against the hated bruins off the back of a red hot Joseph Woll only for Samsonov to start in game 7 and the bruins to take a massive dump on leafs fans hopes and dreams… Again. Don’t worry Toronto, maybe one of these days you’ll get revenge on Boston.
