Such a loyal fan base, decade after decade. It would be nice if the Maple Leaf management and players could return the favor and give one hundred percent every playoff game, every year. Instead the fans are once again told to eat crow by a lackluster playoff team. No fire, no killer instinct, no drive, no passion, and no desire to put in what it takes to win.
The Leaf haters don’t want to hear this but the fans deserve better from this team. Absolutely shameful performance Leafs.
Oh and the Leaf haters should appreciate the good behavior of this fanbase even when the Leafs humiliate their fans. No riots, no throwing objects on the ice and at the players, just a good round of well deserved boos from a well behaved loyal fanbase that deserves so much more from this franchise.

I'm a Tampa fan and Jesus Christ it's one game - calm down. This 'end of the world' reaction/pressure is a huge reason the Leafs have issues performing. Ease up for the love of God.

Leafs will lose tomorrow *precisely* because they know how important it is to win it. The pressure is on them to show that game 1 was not what they are. And if nothing else, what we know about this team is they handle pressure *horrifically* bad. So they'll lose the game, and everyone will write them off and call them dead and tell them to just forfeit before game 3 because they should avoid the embarrassment of the sweep...and then win both games in Tampa, because there'll be no pressure. They'll be in the depths of Florida away from all the Toronto cameras, and everyone will expect them to be golfing by Wednesday. But no one will believe because they've played two poor games in Toronto and will be coming home, so still no pressure. And they'll win game 5 as well. So now the pressure is on again in game 6 to win the series, but they'll know they'll have a chance in game 7, so it's not that bad. They'll go down early, but take the lead after a while and then blow it in the last few seconds and lose in OT. And then *all* the pressure is on them again to win game 7, and they'll get wrecked.
We all know the script at this point. Let's just get the popcorn and watch the rest of this movie, I guess...

@@tml184 Although for the Leafs the prediction didn't age well, the Winnipeg Jets, after having lost game 4 of the April Jets-Golden Knights' playoff series 4-2, followed up with a 4-1 loss in the 5th and final game of that series. The Peg City Hockey RUclips man, in his 1st reaction video to the loss of that series, claimed said loss had been "poetic justice" (via his video titled "Poetic Justice... Jets Eliminated In Game#5 By Knights, What Now? - NHL Playoffs Recap&Reaction"). In that conference quarterfinal the Jets didn't win EITHER home game they'd gotten to play. Over at T-Mobile Arena they won 1 game, splitting the 1st 2.
That passion from Sid is awesome and I agree with everything he said. If Hedman and Cnernak don’t play, Leafs win Game 2.

If the Maple leafs go out after the first round this year like they have the last few years, their fanbase will turn on them. Frankly, I wouldn't blame them if they do.
Although the Leafs would win that playoff series, I'd been sceptical, even going INTO that playoff series, the Leafs would win it. I had after all long gotten used to rooting for pretty much ANY non-Habs' Canadian team to win a Cup as the Leafs had shown me over and over again an inability to close out playoff series. Last season the Oilers would win 1 more playoff game than those Leafs while the:
- Jets would win only 1 game, going down in 5 to the Golden Knights in the 1st round
- the Flames and Sens would each miss by

Shocking I didn't think they were going to go down this badly. They were making mistakes in their own end the entire game. I think they need a reality check. This is where good coaching and management should step in. Pat Burns and Pat Quinn Leaf teams would've never allowed that to happen.

Leaf's players...just don't say anything....you had years to learn how to prep for playoffs. As a Wings afficinado who has witnessed 3 cup victories, I feel lucky not to be a leaf fan. Detroit will win another cup before the leafs ever do.
The players have already made their salaries for the year and can't wait to hit the golf course. These guys are only motivated by their money and they've already gotten paid

Some teams are built for the playoffs and some are built for regular season success. Leafs still do not have the playoff edge . Other than a few big hits they played this like a regular season nothing game last night - even worse. They need to find intensity, start playing for each other and work hard every shift. They need to play for more than the next goal or point on the score sheet, they need wins on all areas of the ice. They also need to be able to turn their game around and adapt to how the lightening are dominating them on every area of the ice - not sure they have the ability to adapt that quick in the playoffs which is their downfall. We will see :)
Maybe the Players want change internally and this is their way to protest.
Dubas goes above and beyond every year to add depth and leadership in the locker room. As you say, it's the culture that needs to change.

Shanny hired a Snakeoil Salesman and he knew it when he did it but he decided to do the dirty to win,now he is paying the Piper with organizational chaos and regression like Kevin Lowe and Mactavish did for the Dellow fiasco which was identical.

Some Franchises are just megaphones for their owners special interests. Dellow and Dubas are connected and so are the Oilers and Leafs. Same problems with both Franchises from the same causality or poison.Edmonton got rid of Dellow due to visuals or optics but the poisons still remain in the form of people Ownership brought in with Dellow/Eakins. You need the sun to shine if you want to see a Stanley Cup ,you cannot win it with a big rainbow hanging over your head sending false-positives out 24/7/365.
@The Corre It was the beginning of the introduction of propaganda driven agendas into NHL Hockey in attempts to normalize the behaviours....they started small with no fanfare by using Rainbow Colored tape but this was just step #1 of a much bigger Agenda and Plan..........its a sick group with an Anti-Humanitarian small Special Interest Group Agenda and a bottomless bank account...I am 100% against NHL Teams using the Sports Entertainment Industry and the 1000s of role models involved to push small special interest group agandas that are Anti-HUmanitarian in nature and content.

As a Tampa fan I was shocked Tampa actually showed up but Toronto didnt in terms of game awareness.
However, playoffs really do feel like a different ruleset.
Tampa has so much more playoff experience and honestly Leafs need discipline so things like Bunting getting a Major doesnt happen again. They gave 2 power play goals for that.
I was so worried about this game but I just felt bad for the Leafs after because of how hostile their own home environment is.
I cant imagine how demoralizing that is when just last year we saw like 5 goals between oilers/flames just last playoffs within 60 seconds.
Shame on those fans for already booing at the end of 1st period.

Leafs need to realize that their 'young core' they've attempted to build around are simply outstanding utility players and not an actual core, no matter how much you force it, and no matter how many Stanley Cup veterans, former top draft picks, Other team captains and bandages you wrap them in, they are simply not the team to do it. Sure there's a lot of hockey left to play in this series, but it doesn't look good when most Leafs fans were talking about home ice advantage, season statistics etc.. It really just looks like Max Pacioretty era Montreal at this point, and who knows, maybe you'll rejuvenate your fanbase with a run to the final-- but they wont win, and it most likely wont be with this 'core'. It's unsustainable in every fashion and they're going to be blown into oblivion soon with no real draft prospects in the near future-- they will turn into Lundquist era NYR, and if you're happy with that, well then, that's that. It's still losing though. And that should be the real wake up call. Because the losing is becoming embarrassing.

Toronto's D is their Achilles heel. Fix that weakness and they will do better. Puck-handling D AND Bruisers, as well as one at least with a good point shot. The team was mentally unprepared too. Hockey culture forgets humility.
Sid you are talking like a fool. They could lose the next three and come home and start next season the same way. Maybe a new coach or manager or both, but don't bet on it. As far as 2nd game yea I think they might win that game, but Sid not because you threatened them. It will be because Tampa will try to capitalize on the Leafs bad play and not push them. But when they get to Tampa for No. 3, TML will have some of their confidence back and be ready for the picking.

They have post-season trauma and it feels like the hype dream of this young Matthew's manner team is passing by. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's been on for 7 years, longer than Chicago's great years. And they keep running it back with the same approach every year, and team's (like tampa) know what to expect and how to prepare. Furthermore, their core is no better than the Avs, Rangers or Oilers. They're just some Dany Heatley, alfredsson team that thinks more than they really r because they're Toronto. But it feels like it's on its last wire.

Not every Canadian cheers for Canadian teams. Bruins have a huge fanbase in Canada. So do the Red Wings. And plenty of other Canadians cheer for US teams.
Patchwork solutions just create more leaks. Dubas should have been let go last summer and MLSE should have brought in a GM with some cup pedigree who knows how to construct a cup winning team. Leafs won't win until JT and Rielly are off the books.

I am a lighting fan and a hockey fan as well. I have to say this is only game one and still a lot of playoff to play. Leaf fans can say this much if they end up loosing to Tampa again but until then, I think you shouldn’t be panicking. I love this game and the fans

@@lecavalier32 I think the Hamilton blockage is probably coming more from Buffalo, but I would like to see a team there as well. This all started when the leafs did their "vanity" signing of Tavares. They didn't need him, they paid him way too much and it stopped them from acquiring other players that probably would have helped them advance in the playoffs. As of right now, this team is not built to win the Cup. I'm not saying things couldn't fall into place and they win a round or two this year, but teams that are top heavy don't usually go all the way anymore.

Players on Tampa took pay cuts and/or demanded less so they could keep a bunch of core players together. I just don't see top-pick players in TO wanting to do something like that. Agree with Sid but he got one thing wrong - the leafs are stupid enough to lose, maybe tomorrow, maybe at another game this series. But I know they aren't making it past the first round and that's it. Dubas, Keefe, core players, its all over.

Because the city of Toronto is built on the attitudes of people like Sid. The fanbase in the city of Toronto - as well as the media - are always one step away from eating you alive.
When you consider that their slump has spanned numerous lineups, coaches, management and personnel, you can't help but wonder if something else is going on at a deeper level.
And my theory is just that: the season's winding down, and players who are financially set for life can't wait to get out of the spotlight. There's no passion in the players because there's no passion in the relationship with the city of Toronto.
The franchise is now just a launching pad for future stars of other players: "If you can choke here, you can make it anywhere".
