About The Colonists:
The Colonists is a settlement building game inspired by classic titles like The Settlers and the Anno series.
You take control of a team of self-replicating robots who have escaped from Earth and are searching the galaxy for a new home where they can fulfil their dream: to be human.
You'll advance through three different Ages as you build infrastructure for your colony by constructing road, boat and train transport systems.
Harvest natural resources, set up farming and food production, create expeditions to discover new lands and research new technologies.
With two separate mission tracks, The Colonists lets either you create sprawling settlements in peace or race to compete against AI colonies in military winner-takes-all scenarios.

This is my jam. The days of Settlers I & II and Knights and Merchants seem to come around again.

The road mechanic with robots waiting is definitely reminiscent of the old Settlers games.

Yes... Meat-eating robots... I just have the feeling that there is more behind their story of "free from humans" as they would tell us. I sense danger xD

I remember doing the delete watchtower thing on Settlers II :D But one could only delete the ones that were well inside your territory and surounded by other wachtowers, otherwise you lost ground like in this video.
This is like the old settler games. I love it

I will be picking this up later on once I get home, the start reminds me of Surviving Mars when the rocket lands and the robots pop out.
I swear anytime I see a neat interesting game on Steam I haven't heard of, I type it in on RUclips and of course you've played it so I can see if I like it. Thank you for your playthrough of Rise of Industry. Bought it after watching a few of your videos on it. Now to see if I like this game.

I've had this game on my wishlist for 8 months.
The energy production system strongly reminds me of the "Matrix". Yes, those robots are really cute but don't look into those "residences".

The theme is so weird. It feels like they started out with a standard human-themed settlers-style game but at some point decided they needed to differentiate themselves so switched the main characters to robots (without changing any of the resources). Why do the robots need to sleep? Why eat meat? Why pick sheep for that meat when the wool is useless? If you can 3d print whole robots, why do you need a tool shop? It first glance, it just feels really jarring to me. Why wouldn't they produce little batteries for food? Why couldn't have have had the robots be vehicles for adorable carniverous space-gerbils or something? Having said all of that, the game looks really clean and fun so I guess it doesn't really matter... Still weird though. :) Nice video. Thanks for this and all the other ones you do.
Hmmm... I have a theory: Created by humans, these robots are unable to really think for themselves and so, when they think "energy" they are stuck thinking about it in human terms. They have access to advanced technologies and have finally found a planet of their own on which to be free, but they are trapped by their own programming and are stuck living in the most inefficient way available to them. Kinda tragic. In hundreds of years, once they have finally broken their programming (and destroyed all humans), they will look back on this time as a dark period in their history: Thinking they are free but just mimicking the primitive humans they were so desperate to flee from. OK. I can stop thinking about this now! :D
Yeah same, it does seems like conflicting ideas and themes.
Late to the party, I know, but what if the humans designed the robots to run on meat? Stay with me. If they made them so they had no means of getting meat for themselves then they would be dependent on the humans, giving them full control. They also could have limited knowledge to further prevent them thinking that the humans are useless and that they can live on their own. Only when they became free from the humans did they learn how to gather meat.

Oh! Interesting! And yes, it's always a good sign when a release date is pushed back. I'd 100% always rather wait for a game than get an unfinished one.
The art is just GORGEOUS. Also, having to think ahead of time where you'll place things is intriguing. I kinda do that on my own b/c I'm a bit OCD w/base builder games like this, but I love that it's a mechanic of the game.

Just as a Note here, while the Paths connecting to the roads are new, the roads themselves with the "flags" and carry bots between them, are not new, it's more or less a copy of the system from Settlers 1 and 2 :D (I just had to comment, as you compared the game to Settlers, and then commented the "Unique" road system) :p
Thank you! I never played Settlers 1 or 2; and it was more a comparison to current colony builder games. (Nearly all of them have full routes from pickup to destination on one hauler. :-)

Looks very much like the Settlers from the 90s.
Does not look like the Settlers at all,the gameplay is a little similar to the Settlers though.

Great game, but what i want to know is: Why do robots need food? :D
They need some kind of fuel to make energy!
Robots that eat animals = a really stupid game. If I was going to play a game with robot colonies, it would be to see how they would live differently than biological settlers. Looks cute but super dumb idea.
The meat is to generate fuel, like a biomass reactor, they don't even have "eating holes" because it would be really stupid idea
@Chadwick, in case you are not aware, food contains energy. It's a very novel idea that robots eat "normal" food, since most bots just work off of generic "energy" in games. It also fits very well with the story of the game, and in that it is quite charming.

reminds me of Anno 2205 w/ all the graphs and what not... did you know that there is a button at the Bottom Left of your screen as a toggle menu to see on going rates of what + - values of the items that your producing... seeing what your have does has it's benefits as OCD as you are and i know this for been a years/years subscriber you like all your productions to line up.. ___ factorio playthrough was amazing example of this... Speaking of Factorio... thought about playing Learning Factory a factorio like Game based on Catering to the Needs of Kats.

why would robots live in straw huts and have sheep? what would they do with the milk and wool from sheep?

Looking for a simple game, the city skylines series is difficult for me placing things like the water and electricity, is this a simple game?
It's much simpler than Cities Skylines, but has more a puzzle feel to it.

How are the robots eating the meat!? Why do they need to eat meat....
This game is super cute! I wish video games, indie and bigger titles, would move away from colonial mindsets though. This trend which has been present for at least the last 2 decades doesn't seem interested in acknowledging our very real and brutal history with colonialism and how it f*cked up our world. I enjoy playing these building/city planning/resource management games but I wish they opened up new doors on how to build/manage societies without destroying environments or native populations.
It is a reflection on how our world still is -- we still chop trees, plant new ones, and dig minerals from the earth. (And we still can't create minerals magically from scratch....)

This is not a "rip-off". If you bother to watch the video, you will see it is quite different than the Settlers games. Educate yourself before making additional ignorant comments.
@@KatherineOfSky It's totally different to the settlers, settlers had 8 items per flag, this uses only 4, and the graphics are different.

@Chadwick Jones I've never hyped any fake science. I simply pointed out to you that games always contain things that are fantastical, magical, or otherwise not true-to-science. Games do that, you know?
