☠️ *Out of this world beauty mixed with the darkness.* That sums up Rio de Janeiro for me. I saw some things on this day that won’t be forgotten easily and please note that a LOT happened off camera, I cannot share certain details of this day because it wouldn't be fair and potentially risky to the kind people that helped me out on this day and made this surreal experience possible. Please let me know your thoughts in a comment section of this video and the Brazil Series (positive or negative). Want to see the photos I got from this day? Thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next one. I love you, Brazil! 🇧🇷
Great representation of all the opposites Rio has to offer, and it makes me slightly sad to see not much has changed since I was there. Early 2000's for me.
But do enjoy the people and their spirit on your trip(s)!
Keep it up and I'll be following!
be safe always Nick!

I'm from Brazil and I say to those who watched this video: don't believe in this content, there is a certain culture, especially in Rio de Janeiro, a tourist city, in romanticizing the favelas, which is terrible and only serves the tourist guide interests. Poverty has never been and will never be trivial. These videos and testimonials are all the bad guys want. A favela is not something pleasant and safe, quite the opposite.

JK!
But you should probably go to the doctor and check if you still have both your kidneys...
For those of you who are curious about what he saw but did not mention in the end of the video, he probably witnessed police officers collaborating, interacting and making deals with criminals. Police officers will sell guns to the gangs and demand money for letting them operate, and also provide info about incoming police operations.
He may have witnessed children and teenagers involved in the drug-selling scheme. The gangs will use children, pregnant, disabled and elderly people mostly to transport the drugs without causing suspicion. I can’t say it is rare that children will be seen holding a gun in a favela. Their childhood is dismantled, and it is shocking when you see a kid who is probably still interested in toys to be holding a gun instead. The unaccessible goods and lifestyle bombarded by tv and the internet nowadays is a powerful tool to convince people into the wrong paths.
Other things he may have seen include their drug and money stocks or, based on his scared face, a place where bodies are disposed, but this is less likely than the other possibilities. The drug dealers will kill people caught stealing in some favelas "to serve as example". In their criminal activities, many people end up being executed, so there are usually unaccessible places where they dispose the bodies of the victims. Although he may have watched somebody being executed in front of him, I don't think this was the case. It is possible, but I think they would not do it in front of a tourist, a person they don't know at all. There is a chance he witnessed somebody being taken away by them, and was told to ignore what was going on and not to look at them. In this case, imagining what happened to that person could be the cause of his scared face. This was suggested by somebody else as a response to my comment.
Many people are mentioning human trafficking, but this is not something common in the favelas of Rio. As I mentioned previously, the leaders of the gangs usually try to keep their reputation as somebody who is protecting the community. From my understanding and experience, if somebody involved with human trafficking is caught in a favela, it is not going to end well for him.

Love this series!
I was able to visit this favela and Rochina with my boxing coach in 2007. The locals were super friendly. But don’t get it twisted, if I was alone I would’ve been in deep shit.
That's for sure KKKKKK
Rocinha is relatively safe. You would of have been fine.
Which favela is this?
@@dreamlover5569and which is really dangerous?
Name of the Favela please and name of the Gang or cartela please

Hey shout out from Auckland, New Zealand. This is quickly becoming of my favourite channels and without a doubt, you've got solid content.
As a serbijan myself I'd prefer brazil than the racist schithole new Zealand island
@@tristanijeblagojevic2842 Brazil is one of the most racist countries in the world.

Ewww my goodness.
Thank you very much for this information. God bless you nd take care🙏

AMAZING VIDEO. GREAT JOB
I was there last month and it’s truly a mix of beauty and darkness. Love your content stay safe
Im also from New Zealand I was an exchange student but was hosted in São Paulo we went to the favela in Easter as part of our exchange chapter to deliver Easter eggs and gifts to the less fortunate. We had to be guided in the same manner as you the amount of security checks etc. . The things we saw and encountered let's just say it was an experience on its own and very scary at first but I can understand where they are coming from and let's just say I am and will be forever grateful for the life I have. And Brazil is a beautiful country with wonderful people, music and culture and the food is tops👌
I knew he was from NZ as soon as I heard him speak
@@namute I hear maybe a little bit of Kiwi, but his accent is slightly different I reckon.
God bless Brazil, I love them from Japan.❤️
Thanks for the video!!!
Your respect for the people living the favelas and showing the things you weren’t allowed to film or even touch on it in detail is what made me subscribe to your channel. Thank you for that!
which respect? lol he disrespected ppl in all levels at this video
Go back into your cave, SJW
It's crazy, every time I see a video of basically anywhere in Brazil even the favelas. I just think of how beautiful it is. it's crazy because you're in the slums but you're still captured by that beauty and you're like what is making this place so beautiful. Of course the land and nature and everything but also it's the people, the way the buildings are built and the art.. the murals. It's just all tied In that makes it so beautiful
Thank you so much!! ❤️🇧🇷
Living there will make your beauty disappear quickly.
Esse aí tem que escutar facção central
I'm Brazilian and I'm sick of foreign people having this true obsession with favelas. Slums are places of huge crime. The fact of a lot of foreigners really believe they are colourful, peaceful and happy places, with 100% of good folks there annoys me at most. When I was in London UK years ago and was explaining to a brit that I came from a poor and working class background and this guy told, "ah, OK, I understand you, you are from the favela!" and this got me really upset. "No mate, I didn't come from a favela. I came from a working class area, not a criminal one. You would be so surprised to know the majority of Brazilians don't live in favelas and that the fact of Brazil is a very large and diverse country, we are not only, thankfully, the Rio de Janeiro city and its favelas (a place that I've visited just one time in my life and I've hated with all of my forces.)". It's really sad the world thinks Brazil is just favelas and much more terrible that you think favelas are beautiful places. This offends most part of the hard working Brazilians, believe me
@@Ignatius1972 stop, please stop!!! Stop spitting so many facts!
This favela is at Cantagalo Hill between Copacabana and Ipanema, in case anyone was wondering.
Looks absolutely gorgeous and definitely intense situations mixed in just around the corner
This is literally the best travel channel on YT...
Love your documentaries man, amazing quality. Glad to have discovered this channel
Thanks, Andy!
I find Nick to be incredibly respectful. To all of those complaining about how he is not showing Brazil's nice side, hundreds of RUclipsrs are doing that already.
The beauty of this channel is that Nick shows the good and the bad which allows foreigners to see what is truly going on around the world. Sometimes this will even lead to fundraising and help being sent to those in need.
Keep up the amazing work that you are doing!
Well said! I'm new to this channel, but he is very respectful and l feel like he's showing you an accurate depiction...whatever that may be.
Exactly, it has to show the Brazilian reality, the contrast that exists here. I follow the american RUclipsrs that show the reality of the streets in the united states and that's good, if you ever visit the united states, to know that gang and drug problems also exist.
@layna ryan we re not hiding anything. its just facts. In Brazil we have the rich part and this fucked up part. But America only shows LA and NYC but if you go to mississippi and louisiana, its fucked up there too. And we don’t have that much racism. Brazil is in fact a poor country but we’re not that ignorant lol.
@@hostage_dystopian LA is also pretty bad, a legion of homeless people.
In general America North and South is fucked up ! Young generations but Europe is also not a paradise how the Americans thing. Europe have poverty too and lots of other problems. Foreigners go to Paris taking pictures in from of Chanel store and other places but go outside Paris around the slams you must lock the car door otherwise you will get robed. Italian subways you must watch your bags. Germany lots of drugs rehab centers full of lost people. All those things the Americans from Brazil and USA doenst know.
The earth is not a Utopia!
This series is just getting amazing episode by episode 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Dev!
Then you are a gullible fool easily duped by sensationalism.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much for showing us another incredibile country
The community spirit in many favelas is much more compassionate than even the richer areas.
Everyone understands poverty and death in the favelas.
Life is cheap but they try and live life to the fullest in spite of the conditions which provoke such misery.
Suffering produces compassion
Wow nice choice of word. It felt like I read some wisdom. Thank.
Ive been 3 times in Rio and another 6 in other cities and I love Brazil
This video just made me realized just how much god has blessed me with family who are amazing. The environment really matters. My prayer goes out for those people.
The gang guys are nice, just trying to survive. Hear ya for not throwing them under the bus. Just a happy and sad situation combined. That's Brazil for you.
