It appears that the GOP, back in the second Obama term, purposely stalled replacements of Post Office Governors that oversee the Postmaster General. Likely this was done to aid the process of "privatizing" the Post Office. Covid came and offered an unexpected opportunity.
What is the energy around DeJoy and the post office? Was there a plan in place to undermine the post office? What is the energy around DeJoy now?

I simply can't believe after all these years, Mr. DeJoy is still Postmaster General; he should be in prison for his corruption of the beloved Post Office.
I worked with the post office for years & no problems. They were very nice. As soon as he got in it's a disaster!! Can't wait till his GONE!!

I work for the post office, and it is TERRIBLE. We are being destroyed from the inside out. They are not hiring, and every office is short staffed .They are treating the employees as if we are garbage. 60 hour weeks is the normal now for employees. It is a sad situation

It's Louis DeJoy (not William) and he has certainly done a LOT to screw up our postal service.
Postal workers were the ones who let Americans know what DeJoy was doing. They are the ones putting out photos of the sorting machine being taken out and being sold for scrap. Many of them were brand new machine's
Not only did he remove custom made made multi million dollar machines, he destroyed them rather than salvage
You are right about knowing the postmaster. I'm 60, and Dejoy is the first one whose name I've ever known. I believe he was put in place to destroy the post office. He has certainly made a good start.

I worked for the USPS for 23 years retired 3years ago. David is right about Dejoy. He is closing distribution centers all over the country, he Is killing the postal service on purpose.

@@darakinsey7775 I think the main reason initially was to privatize it. It is my understanding that Dejoy will financially profit from his financial holdings in other companies if he can cripple the Post Office sufficiently.

My sister and I first voted by mail during COVID but we drove ours directly to the election office because I didn't know that they would lost in the mail. Then I called to make sure our ballots were counted. They were.

USPS is one of the few items that is enshrined in the Constitution. The clue is in the second “S” = “Service”. It was NEVER intended to be a money making business, so Republican Congressional interference has made it the only office that had to turn a profit, which is frankly disgusting.
The only Postmaster General I knew was Benjamin Franklin.
I also can’t understand the logic behind his stupid actions, where I live in Chicago, and continue to see tracking on packages where it starts in Chicago, goes to Florida, then back to Chicago- if I’m lucky.

This has been a continuous mess! I have had mail lost and undelivered. Our Senators Warnock and Osoeff called DeJoy on the carpet and gave him 45 days to fix this postal mess in Georgia. People not receiving their checks and medicine. I never knew the name either, but I know the price of stamps increases every 6 months.
Atlanta is the worst area. Dejoy keeps experimenting with new failing ideas for that area. The Postal workers can't do their jobs correctly with the impossible changes. The customers suffer the most.

That hearing was embarrassing for him. One of the ladies asking questions actually worked at the post office all her life. He had no clue about what she was asking! Talking about “unqualified for the job”

What "you" can do to "save" the Post office....but stamps, use the Post office to send packages, send and receive mail. During COVID, I sent cards to my friends weekly. Now I send cards frequently, as well as for Christmas and Valentine's day. Do what you can to make it too powerful for them to take it down.

Yes, several representatives and senators began inquiries into postal issues. Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith from MN called for inquiries in December 2023. Rural America was heavily impacted by the changes. Our long time postal workers were so overburdened they worked double & triple shifts. They were not paid for their overtime, paychecks were late. Amazon contracted with USPS to deliver under contract. Remember that chaos last Christmas? That was all about privatizing the US mail.
I never knew who the postmaster general was until the current was selected. So, David you're right!!😂💙🇺🇲💙
DeJoy also has huge investment in what he wants to change the transport of mail delivery. He didn't want planes used for moving mail because he owns a ground transport business.

I got a letter from my Congessional rep asking if I was having trouble getting my mail ir meds when this was going on. Just recently our new Congressional Rep here in Ohio is looking into it. She went to the distribution center. So I have hopes dejoy will soon be gone.

In my city it’s hard to find a mail box out on the streets I have to go to the P.O. If I want to mail anything ! Also my mail is always messed up I don’t get 1/2 of my mail and bills delivered , but I get other peoples a lot , and going to the P.O. To complain does no good ! Some of the boxes were taken out for safety reasons (b0m8s), some due to shortage of workers, but most due to destroy post office.
I have a wonderful carrier, she replaces another wonderful longtime carrier. we are so lucky.
However. my post office was burned down during the George Floyd riot-I live ground zero- third district-. It was finally just rebuilt this year.

Even more nefarious than corporate greed in privatization, it is a federal crime to interfere with the US mail; private companies don't fall under that same law making interference with the mail easier and without serious or any consequence.
DeJoy should never have been made Postmaster General! He was appointed by "IT" to further the whole rigging of the election.
I send birthday cards Christmas cards for years to granddaughter 24 year old and full time in College, this year the Post office in Arizona do not deliver her the mail send address they return the mail I send to her, since is a check to help her now I going to address the letters to her mother. After your reading wonder if phoenix AR is blocking college students from using the Post Office to vote.

David, can you see America copying Australia by creating Independent Electoral Commissions in every State empowered to decide District Bounadries under agreed non partisan guidelines and rules and running elections under rules that ensure no voter suppression whilst removing power from the Political Party's over running elections. Also a Federal Electoral Commision as we Aussies have. Note also in Australia voting us compulsory from age 18, our election day is always on a Saturday
And we can also request a postal vote or go to a polling station during the week before the Saturday Voting Day. Totally agree that the US voting system is so open for corruption and flawed in today’s World. I will always vote NO in the future to any question about becoming a republic and having a “President” after this lunatic and his plotters in the US. There is nothing wrong with having a “ceremonial” Head of State because at least they know their place … and it’s ONLY on one side of our money and them living 10,000 km away.
And what is it with this voter registration in the US having to also indicate who you vote for when registering? Purging voter records wouldn’t work here because no one knows who you vote for.
Reminds me of when H!tler took power and everyone in Germany was asked to register their occupation detail purely for administration purposes of course, and they slipped in the Q. asking them to designate their religion … it was just a pure coincidence that they knew exactly who to round up in their millions, right.

The Senate Hearing on the USPS is underway ... caught a snippet of the GA Senator grilling (and I do mean grilling) DeJoy on the closing of post offices in his State and the delays in mail delivery. It was priceless!
So glad you did a reading on this, thank you. I am a retired letter carrier of 33 years service. I have seen several postmasters in my career, and DeJoy has got to be the worst. Every time a republican is in the white house the federal employees take a hit. Starting with Ronald Reagan's administration when all newly hired employees were put on the FERS program (no more civil service retirement) Ronny had to bail out social security because he borrowed against it and had to find a way to fix this f*ck up (putting social security next in the cross hairs) Then GW Bush's administration told the post office to pre fund their FERS retirement fund 75 years in advance in a 10 yr time causing the PO to look like they were hemoraging money. The PO is the only company on earth asked to do this (prefunding a retirement system for people who are not even born yet) Most other companies are only asked to prefund 25 years in advance. I can only imagine if the PO is privatized our retirement money will be stolen.

Got email from our Senator Merkeley (OR) asking for experience with Post Office. Merkeley reported that in March Senators requested DeJoy stop any further downgrades to the postal service. Didn't sound like they heard back from him. Sounds like Senators are now gathering information from constituents as evidence to stop DeJoy's actions to dismantle USPS. A little history on DeJoy- he was the founder and CEO of the logistics and freight company New Breed Logistics and was a major Republican Party donor and fundraiser for Donald Trump.[1] DeJoy is the first postmaster general in two decades without prior experience in the USPS.[2] His companies still hold active service contracts with the USPS, generating controversy over conflict of interest.[3]
Also, in regards to the privatization of USPS, unlike any other public or private entity, under a 2006 law, the U.S. Postal Service must pre-fund retiree health benefits. We must pay today for benefits that will not be paid out until some future date. So like Social Security, there’s all this money they’re trying to get their greedy hands on,
I don't know about anywhere else. But here in Oklahoma they have the envelopes for the ballots, color code to tell the difference between a Republican or a Democratic ballot. And I think it's to where the post office will know who's a Democrat and who is a republican voting. I think the people at the post office has been ordered to throw away the Democratic votes.

You are correct. The change with the USPS started with Dubya in 2006 signing into law the Postal Reform Act. It was the first steps toward privatization. DeJoy came from a failing logistics company. He has attempted to change the delivery for the USPS in the same manner UPS or FedEx. To start from a centralized location for all routes within a 100 mile radius. This adds lots of travel time to and from routes...the average postal route every day is 400 to 1500 deliveries. The average number of deliveries for UPS is 200 at max. Dejoy also has investments in UPS and FedEx. He is sabotaging the right of all Americans to receive mail in a timely manner...it's in the Constitution. I'm retired 31 year letter carrier. The majority of Postal workers are doing their best...in a no win situation.
I typically get one first class letter a month. Which means i have to track my payment amounts every month and pay online. Always. I try to NEVER send a check and all people i know do same.. LD has done a good job of destroying PO.time he was gone..

Reno, Nevada U.S.P.S. is slated to have its mail sorted in Sacramento, California! All staff are said to keep their jobs. This doesn’t make sense, California is more expensive in real estate, property taxes, insurance, etc. If the post office wanted to consolidate mail sorting cities to save money, why not send the Sacramento mail to the less expensive Reno facility for distribution?

The only postmaster I knew of was Montgomery Blair, Lincoln’s PMG. I went to Montgomery Blair High School.
Dejoy would benefit from the privatization of the post office because I believe Dejoy owns or has stock in a company that would compete with the post office.

Yes, the Senate hearing had a go at DeJoy. Senator Jon Ossoff (Georgia) took him apart in questioning, and basically said ... you better do your job, sport !! Senator Ossoff had DeJoy stuttering. So, DeJoy may well have been put on "notice" to straighten up his game. * As a personal aside, I am an overseas voter in U.S. elections. I vote by mail. I never received a primary ballot. So, going forward, I will elect to vote on-line. I did that once, and it worked fine. So, that's my plan for the general election in Nov.
