    I really really like Honda's hybrid system. The fact that this Clarity gets practically the same amount of power in electric mode as in hybrid mode is one of the major reasons we got this car vs a Prius or RAV4 Prime.

    One quick piece of (hopefully!) constructive feedback: I find a lot of reviewers don’t provide more than a surface level NVH readout. Given that you already do the measurements, it might be helpful to include a table to the right with comparable vehicles you’ve tested.

      But how to control for variables? Even if he designates a standard course, wind and passing traffic would throw off the result. I'm not sure how any reviewer could accomplish this and have the results be particularly useful.

    I had planned to buy the new Touring - but it seems like Honda just went too cheap on a $40k car... I was hoping for AWD. Also, no heated steering wheel, no laminated glass, one seat back pocket? The CRV weighs 400 lbs more, has AWD, laminated glass, and heated steering wheel - yet costs the same??? Is it just me or are others confused by the missing content. $40k is real money and a person can get something much nicer (ES350 no markups now and still have sweet v6 option - and trust me they even include two seat back pockets) if they find a car one year old. I say this as a life long honda fan boy!!

    I will say this: As a Honda buyer, If Toyota still has their Camry TRD 300hp V6 models, then I’m never going to look back at the pitiful 192hp 1.5T Accord and this 206hp hybrid. I loved the older 278hp 2017 V6 Honda Accord’s and even the 252hp 2018 2.0T Accords that used to win drag races against Ecoboom Mustangs; but if this pitiful 192hp is all they got that’s not a hybrid, then I am no longer on the market for an Accord, and the Accord is dead to me.
    I understand that not enough people bought these higher hp products, but it’s just sad to see the performance options of V6, V8, and 2.0T disappearing.

    • @a32tl
      @a32tl Год назад +5

      I could not agree more. I have been driving Hondas/Acuras for almost 38 years straight. Currently have a '21 Accord Touring 2.0T. Honda has forsaken me as a customer when they abandoned performance in this new Accord. Why didn't they drop the 1.5T, make the hybrid engine their entry level engine and keep the 2.0T? I know they're grooming us to go full electric but I will fight that until the bitter end. Bye Honda. It was a swell run but you ruined it for me. I'm sure the new Accord will sell very well to the masses but no one who enjoys a bit of performance will be buying this car.

      What do you drive now?

  • @exclusivelymatt
    @exclusivelymatt Год назад +4

    Picked up the base Sport Hybrid last month and have put on about 800 miles or so. It's my first time owning a Honda, overall have been happy with the purchase. Has been plenty powerful for my needs and the overall drive experience has been great to this point. Few things to note, though. The gas mileage advertised compared to what I've been getting is night and day. I've been averaging around 35mpg city compared to the advertised 46. On the flipside however, I have been averaging close to 52mpg highway, compared to the 42mpg they rated. I expected some variance there, but just seems way off in either direction. Wireless Android Auto has been a great feature, although it has bugged out a few times. The lack of a charging pad is a bit of a bummer, but not a major inconvenience.
    If you are a neat freak and hate fingerprints, the piano black accents in the car will drive you crazy. Really don't understand why they (or any manufacturer) continues to use that material. Not only does it look and feel cheap, but they decided to place it around area's you'll naturally touch (near the start button, shifter, and base of the steering wheel).
    Lastly, it is a shame that this car isn't a plug in hybrid. The more I drive the car, the more it kinda feels this was meant to be an EV, but they decided to make it an ICE Hybrid at the last moment. It's one of those feelings that only makes sense once you actually get behind the wheel. But, at the end of the day it is still a great sedan, very easy to recommend.

      @@MrSamPhoenix It's rare because no one wanted to buy them new, due to the fact that a FWD TL could be had for the same money. I never liked the TL. I preferred the more European like styling of the TSX. I actually waited for the V6 to come out for the '10 model year. I bought one as soon as it came out in late '09. I've been loving the car, plan to drive it until it dies. It is a pretty rare car, I've only seen a handful of V6s on the road since I purchased it. It's just rare though, not valuable. I don’t get it, with the 10th gen Honda changed the styling and ergonomics to move away from families and towards a sportier buyer (e.g. higher beltline, smaller windows, less rear headroom) as families have logically been buying crossovers such as the HR-V and really the CR-V. So I don’t get why for this generation Honda decided to alienate that sportier buyer they were targeting. No AWD, and especially dropping the 2.0T and its stepped, 10-speed transmission. It’s a short sighted move in my opinion. They already make the 2.0T and that 10-speed, they simply could have carried it over. They have essentially abdicated sportier market share to the Camry V6 (should Toyota keep it around for their next gen) and the Hyundai twins in their performance variants. And for what, I don’t know a single family or prospective family buyer that actually wants a sedan, they are all moving to crossovers with 0 sedans on their lists.
    I get the goal, I get the motive, heck I would love more fuel economy out of my 2.0T, but ultimately I, like many other 10th gen 2.0T buyers, love that torque. We loved the mannerisms, dynamics, and power of the 2.0T powertrain. After seeing this model when it dropped, I realized I’m going to be keeping my 2.0T EX-L until the day it dies. This next generation is just a slap in the face to the very buyers they were catering to with the 10th gen.

    It’s been clear with the economic downturn that many car companies are getting rid of base models to improve their margins, Honda included (no LX trim CRV, Civic, etc.) I think what frustrates me most is the steep increase in price of the most efficient accord, which would have been the base hybrid last generation at around $28k but is now the EX-L at $33.5k. I wish there was a lower trim or an option to get the skinnier tires/wheels on the sport hybrid.
    Beyond that, the omission of things like the adaptive dampers, heated steering wheel, and a panoramic moonroof versus competitors is a shame. It feels like Honda either needs to move Acura significantly upmarket, or axe it to give its mainstream models breathing room to be more competitive.

He does say it sounds quieter and that it feels firmer than the last gen (the last was FIRM, so I don't know why the hell Honda would make it even firmer 😬). But even more info and some comparisons to other cars/brands would be nice. Is it as firm as TypeR? Is it as soft as a 1980s Lincoln? Is the steering light, overboosted, numb, etc? Or is it heavy, sporty, feels like there's no power steering?

    It is so dumb of manufacturers to push back the rear seats for a useless amount of legroom and reduce the headroom this way. What's the point of all that legroom? If they mounted the rear seats 1" further forward it would still have enough legroom for everyone (including child seats) and it would actually fit taller people this way bc it would have more headroom if the rear seats were in a position where the roof is higher up.
    I wish sedans had sliding rear seats.

    I really like the look of it... but I think it would have been better if they had extended the front wheels closer to the front of the car. Seeing the profile of the car shows that 70's era amount of overhang. I think a lot of people will scrape the underside of the overhang if they have a slight bump to get onto their driveway. Having a longer wheelbase would likely improve the ride as well.
    I think, considering the poor headroom, they should bring back the Accord wagon and make it have a sleeker rake at the back of the hatch to still give it a sleek look. The silhouette of the Volvo V90 and the Audi wagons look amazing while being more practical than the sedan.
