@greg acosta Did you ever hear George Michael tell the story how Michael Jackson disrespected him? He went to Neverland as Michael insisted George go there and they were going to discuss doing a single. He said after Michael made him STAND in the foyer for half an hour then Michael was sitting across from him on couches and Michael would not talk to him directly. He would talk to his manager and tell him to talk to Rob kahane to then talk to George. George said this guy is straight-up crazy, no amount of money is worth being disrespected in this way and I want nothing to do with him. It was either 87 or 88 George sold more records than Michael. I agree with your jealousy assessment. George could easily sing R&B pop and dance music, wrote his own songs and played on them and could dance. Strikingly gorgeous he was....defined as normal. Definitely things Michael Jackson wouldn't like.
That’s what a lot of covers fail to do in general. Trying to be just like the original voice doesn’t make the cover special, you know? George Michael came in and sang this song with his special voice and style… and the result was BEYOND PERFECT!!!

It is not only the best performance of this tribute concert, it is definitely one of the top 5 performances ever. Such a brilliant voice and overall performance!
BEST cover of this song EVER!! GEORGE had the most beautiful voice. He would have made Freddie proud.. Freddie will never be replaced but this is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Due artisti di fama mondiale altrettanto bravi. Peccato che non ci sono più . Grande perdita, George il mio preferito sicuramente poteva cantare di tutto. Freddy grande nei suoi pezzi x il resto non saprei, poteva essere un buon tenore.
I have this theory that George and Freddie were long lost brothers. They were both the two most fabulous singers in any UK bands - and actually, any bloody bands you could name. I miss them both so much. xxx
Fun fact: George is the only one who didn’t have to change keys out of all the singers of that day. He’s the only one who could sing in the same notes as Freddie. Goes to show how talented they both were and how amazing of a singer Freddie is (edit: i just found out this got a lot of likes and ig it’s not true, i read this somewhere and wanted to share it, i’m not deleting it though)
Until this moment everybody thought George Michael was a very talented pop singer. After this performance suddenly everyone realised he was one the true greats of rock'n roll.
He said in an interview that the Rock genre was not meant to be for him, but this is what he's truly fond of. No one actually told him his unbelievable voice fits in every genre, doesn't matter what everyone expected him to be. I miss this mysterious man..a lot 😢
Have you seen the video of the practice session for the performance? Worth a look. David Bowie makes an appearance and you can really see how much Brian respects George.
There are no songs covered by George which is failed or no good, either in recording or live. He covered The Miracles' Love Machine with Wham!, Isley Brothers' If You Were There with Wham!, The Temptations' Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Seal's Killer, Stevie Wonder's Love's In Need Of Love Today, Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing (at Nelson Mandela's live ceremony), Steve Wonder's As with Mary J Blidge, and many more including this powerful live tribute for Freddie Mercury. According to WhoSampled he covered 47 songs, and everything he covered are always perfect. Nothing can make covers so perfectly like George! We love you, always!
I'm in awe! Brilliant performance of George Michael! He had really felt this song and sung it with all of his heart, soul and his powerful voice. I had no idea he has such vocal abilities. This is the closest version of the original sound of the song I've heard. Thank you George Michael!
In George's documentary he said that this performance was dedicated to his partner who was suffering from AIDS too (and died a year after this performance). George was still closeted then, so I can imagine how fucked up he must've felt onstage.
“George Michael was the best,” Brian May declared. “There’s a certain note in his voice when he did ‘Somebody to Love’ that was pure Freddie.” excerpt from an interview for the Daily Record newspaper
@Patricia Bilinkas Can Adam fans stop dreaming and just keep your comparison between Adam and Marc? Both Freddie Mercury and George Michael are on a totally different level and it’s damn disrespectful to even suggest that those two karaoke impersonators even come close to the original.
When George finished singing this song, he just walk away out of the stage its like he didn't just gave one of his best live performance in music history. He was a very humble person unlike many other a true legend we will never see someone like him again so sad
Will Alvarez I know who Mark Martel is but he sounds so much like Freddie it’s basically the same. George Michael’s version is distinctive but also incredible.
@@ItsWill21 Are you kidding? George Michael had to get up in front of 100,000 people and nail it with all the members of Queen behind him. That was an outrageous performance. Watch the rehearsal footage with George owning it. Bowie looks impressed too ruclips.net/video/46YZ8evUfKk/видео.html
I’ve loved this performance for years, but I came back to revisit it after seeing the Wham documentary. After seeing how George struggled with his self image and wanted so badly to be a respected artist, I just hope he knew how great this performance was and how much it was appreciated. I miss him to this day. 😢
It makes me even sadder that he was singing out of grief for his partner in the audience who was dying of aids at the time. He described it as if he was singing a prayer :(

Whenever I think of live performances I always have Queen at Live Aid and George Michael at Freddie’s tribute concert at the top. The way GM has complete and total vocal control over this ridiculously difficult lead vocal really is outstanding as is the way he just feeds off the crowd and has them completely under his spell. Two legendary talents. Both gone far too soon.
I've attended hundreds of concerts in my life, but I wish I were born earlier to attend the 2 best concerts in the history of music : Live Aid and Freddie's tribute concert.
George Michael put his heart and soul into that cover. And my goodness, the result is incredible. And that, in front of 72,000 adoring fans of one Freddie Mercury. Respect. George Michael. Forever.

and soooooo damn handsome, beautiful George
It should have, it was only the greatest live performance ever, George Michael was incredible.
wow
Ohhh, Lucky you !!!!🥰
This version is my favourite of this song. George did Freddie proud and he interacted with the crowd the same way Freddie would have. In my opinion it was the best performance of the tribute concert.
It is not only the best performance of this tribute concert, it is definitely one of the top 5 performances ever. Such a brilliant voice and overall performance!
He stole the show that day, no doubt about it.
This is the best live performance of all time. IMO.
Of all the tribute artists that performed that night the only one that got Brian Mays stamp of approval was GM!
I agree
Freddie Mercury and George Michael two outstanding talents gone too soon.
But you must not forget their positive influences. Legacies never die and both have very strong legacies :)
The only guy who could pull this off besides Freddy. Beautiful.
BEST cover of this song EVER!!
GEORGE had the most beautiful voice. He would have made Freddie proud..
Freddie will never be replaced but this is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Да это тоже песня Джорджа Майкла (кавер). Конечно сперва это песня Фредди Меркьюри и группы Queen 👑😏
Due artisti di fama mondiale altrettanto bravi. Peccato che non ci sono più . Grande perdita, George il mio preferito sicuramente poteva cantare di tutto. Freddy grande nei suoi pezzi x il resto non saprei, poteva essere un buon tenore.
Absolutely🙂
Yes, exactly! Fantastic!💜
Angela Giroux Thanks. I thought he was right on target.
If someone knows this.. Did they (Queen themselves) used to start this song in key G and transpose into A♭ like this version?
@@nomorepancake88 they always play it in key Ab (studio and live version). Here is on key G but who cares, its fucking amazing too!
Geroge Michael is the only singer who even had the talent to be in Freddie's shadow
I mean... To be technical this is with the key changed down. But it's still really amazing!
One of the greatest vocal performances I have ever seen, capped by incredible stage presence and charisma. Brian May's smile, the ultimate approval!
No1 will ever do better
You dont see freddie mercury ??
Easily so.
I love Freddy but I like this version better ... George is the best
Nigel James ¡Y yo! 😍😍
Очень серьезный специалист, чувствует аудиторию, прекрасно отработал музыкальный материал - не подвёл ни в чём, просто красавчик.
Until this moment everybody thought George Michael was a very talented pop singer. After this performance suddenly everyone realised he was one the true greats of rock'n roll.
He could sing anything
So true !
George is one of the greatest very sadly missed
He is full of surprises I still have my irredecent socks
He said in an interview that the Rock genre was not meant to be for him, but this is what he's truly fond of. No one actually told him his unbelievable voice fits in every genre, doesn't matter what everyone expected him to be.
I miss this mysterious man..a lot 😢
Freddie--no one can sing like me
George- hold my beer
Freddie - well done darling
Marc Martel - hold my beer too
So well said. I bet Freddie said that to George in person when they met up in heaven.
na its not as good as Freddy. Its good, but its not Freddy.
Thi is the best thing I've ever read on the internet.
@Black Dog yeah that's what I'm saying
You can tell that Brian May is impressed by George Michael preformance. Pure class ❤
Have you seen the video of the practice session for the performance? Worth a look. David Bowie makes an appearance and you can really see how much Brian respects George.
Sadly, Google Tube failed to play the entire performance. Google owns YT! AHs!
You forgot his cover of The Long and Winding Road of the Beatles and I I Can't Make You Love Me of Bonnie Raitt, both are magnificent. Check them out
You can’t follow Freddie. But George Michael smashed this out of the park. A spine tingling performance. Utterly brilliant
Superbe reprise de Queen suis très fière de lui allez George
Those two can't nobody replicate
You just contradicted yourself.
@@jackielittle1729haha I did didn’t I? But you know what I mean
George was literaly the only one to do any of Freddies songs justice... R.I.P you beautiful genius
jack glackin Amen!
Roger Daltrey did a great job with I Want it All but this was definitely the best performance of the night
I agree Jack... this was incredible!
Roger Daltrey
Gotta disagree with you there. Elton John did wonderfully that night
I'm in awe! Brilliant performance of George Michael! He had really felt this song and sung it with all of his heart, soul and his powerful voice. I had no idea he has such vocal abilities. This is the closest version of the original sound of the song I've heard. Thank you George Michael!
+Tati Camillo That's why George Michael deserves respect, admiration and thankfulness!
look for the rehearsal on youtube, MAGIC
FairyFleur
Lovely.
FairyFleur
The closest your get Toulouse Freddie,
What a brilliant voice.
WTF. is Adam Lambert.
In George's documentary he said that this performance was dedicated to his partner who was suffering from AIDS too (and died a year after this performance). George was still closeted then, so I can imagine how fucked up he must've felt onstage.
2024 still listening to this great artist. Miss him and FreddyMercury two of the greatest!!!
Freddie. No affence.
I agree ❤
“George Michael was the best,” Brian May declared. “There’s a certain note in his voice when he did ‘Somebody to Love’ that was pure Freddie.” excerpt from an interview for the Daily Record newspaper
ali fyfe maybe until Adam came along. RIP George.
@Patricia Bilinkas Can Adam fans stop dreaming and just keep your comparison between Adam and Marc? Both Freddie Mercury and George Michael are on a totally different level and it’s damn disrespectful to even suggest that those two karaoke impersonators even come close to the original.
@@Faithful0988 that is what Rain is saying that Adam and Marc cannot compare to Freddie or George
@@rainy8900
Do you know what does a "joke" mean?

When George finished singing this song, he just walk away out of the stage its like he didn't just gave one of his best live performance in music history.
He was a very humble person unlike many other
a true legend we will never see someone like him again so sad
George xx
George Michael forever ❤
I miss him.
I miss George, earth is a dark place without him 😔
There will never be artists like George or Prince or Bowie or Freddy again
He made this song his own, without hijacking it. Just brilliant.
Exactly right , he was honouring Freddie mercury with that perfect performance of that song thank you George micheal
Nobody could cover this Queen song with the authenticity like George's tribute. Freddie would had embraced him.
No one can ever imitate freddy Mercury, or sound like him,its impossible, but george michael done a damn good job singing that song ❤❤
Bo to tez ministre brillant
He didn't try to imitate Freddy in the first place.
Agreed!
Freddie is, of course, an amazing singer. This song, though now, belongs to George Michael.. Completely made it his own
We will never have enough of Freddy but Michael dud ut right....miss them both
I've never seen this till now. I am a huge Freddie Mercury fan, but George just sang the hell out of that song. Awesome!
Awesome.
all concert is awesome
same!!!
Feeling it to this day in 2023. I remember I bought the 45 and played it till it wore it out. Thank you Queen and George Michael!
Literal chills. This is the only acceptable cover of this song.
Nope. Go look up Marc Martel.
Will Alvarez Marc Martel has a great voice but his cover of this song is nowhere near as good as George Michael’s cover.
julia It is a cover. George Michael is singing somebody else’s song so it is a cover.
The perfect performance. Not a flaw, what a talent George Michael was. So missed. RIP ❤
I’ve loved this performance for years, but I came back to revisit it after seeing the Wham documentary. After seeing how George struggled with his self image and wanted so badly to be a respected artist, I just hope he knew how great this performance was and how much it was appreciated. I miss him to this day. 😢
Me too - I never saw Wham but I was at this concert, George (and Lisa stansfield) stole the show.
Great documentary!😊
It makes me even sadder that he was singing out of grief for his partner in the audience who was dying of aids at the time. He described it as if he was singing a prayer :(
É tão difícil viver sem eles. E saber q eles se foram cedo demais. Tinham tanto ainda por fazer. Deixaram um legado maravilhoso.
It doesn’t get better than that!❤
It takes a brave man to attempt Freddie Mercury. It takes an exceptional singer to nail a Freddie Mercury
Jordan Smith He nailed it ! I'm fussy about covers but George did this one and a song called 'Going to a town' magnificently. Find it on RUclips if you haven't heard it.
Jordan Smith and Elton johns don't let the sun come down on me. And he performed a live powerful unreleased song on the graham norton show
when I first heard this song in the radio, I thought it was Freddie singing. After the end they told that the singer was somebody else. O_o
Totally agree with you and Freddie and George both had amazing voices and gone far too soon
i always felt a similarity in their music. could easily have pictured crazy little thing called love be a George Michael song . anyways they were both great vocalists.
Amen to that, Brother!!
Yes! R.I.P to our legends. Thank you for the music and getting me/us through some tough times!!
Totally agree with you ! George Michael was really great at Live Aid, too, accompanied by Elton John, with Phil Collins on drums !
Brilliant perfect words 👏 ❤️
if you have the entire crowd clapping and singing...you did Sir Freddy Mercury justice. This was just an insane performance.
George Michael put his heart and soul into that cover. And my goodness, the result is incredible. And that, in front of 72,000 adoring fans of one Freddie Mercury. Respect. George Michael. Forever.
So I really enjoyed this Queen 💜👑💜 and George Michael singing 🎵 almost as good as Freddie .. almost but I enjoy listening to George Michael too!!
Amen 🙏 to that!!
3:59 Brian says through his eyes emotionally: Thank you George, such a fitting tribute.. Nobody could have filled the emotion better
Youre damn right!!!
Hell Yeaaahhh Bro same thinks 😎🤙🏼🍻
He was HAPPY ! - on behalf of Freddie himself
Yeah - and Roger Taylors emotion at 3:46!
he smiles
A George Michael tribute concert is an absolute must! The man was a musical giant and he's not appreciated enough. Love forever❣️ RIP George ❣️
I like the idea, but just throwing this out ther, WHO is gonna sing Georges' parts?
No decent singer to replace George
I agree but who would sing? Il Divo?
wait a minute, maybe Lady Gaga?
Paolo Nutini from Scotland, he has the voice!
Greatest live performance in the world ever .
This is probably the best cover of this song ever made. George Michael did the exact same thing as Queen did at Live Aid... He stole the show!
I was never a George Michael fan but when I saw this performance I did think "My God this guy really is something exceptional"
Its not to late. GM is worth loving even in death. Thats how I fell in love with FM. Freddy was already dead, but I still discovered him more and more.
George has many great songs both with Wham and by himself
George Michael is amazing, I really love him ❤❤ miss him so much ❤
Me neither, then I checked out the Unplugged tapes. Now a fan
Same here
He was stratospheric. What a voice, what an artist. And Brian looked so thrilled!
Right?!?!?! Especially when the song it’s on its final lyrics he looks so proud
3:59
@@jmsg_PR Agreed. If Brian was so 'thrilled' he would have signed GM on the spot, but no, he didn't, cause he would have lost control of the Band and the Revenue!
@Woodbug I wondered about that. Plus George never would've done it. It wasn't the right time for him. It's funny though. GM is still my favorite singer and Queen will always be my favorite Band. Their music got me through one of the hardest periods of my life. Recovering from Breast cancer 🎀 surgery. I beat it. I will always be grateful. 🙏❤️😘
Why would George ever want to front a band? He was so incredible on his own! Amazing talent we were all blessed with! ❤
George Michael in a GODLIKE mode , Beast .
2024 год. Мурашки по коже❤❤❤
Эпическая вещь!
DITTO!
What I love about this is George knows he can’t be Freddie and sings it like he would if he had wrote it while still maintaining a spirit of Freddie, absolutely flawless performance
You said it perfectly. I feel like he thought a lot about how he would do this; it is so essentially him yet really expresses love for Freddie and Queen. It seems like this performance gave him deep satisfaction. I HOPE it did!
I agree, he gives a FEEL of "this is for you, Freddie".
Absolutely couldn't have said it better myself.
Maybe best cover ever?
5 things that made this phenomenal:
1. People weren't watching through their mobile phones.
2. The crowd sing a long "Luuuhhhhhhh-ooooveeee."
3. The energy.
4.. Freddie was there that night.
5. GEORGE FUCKING NAILED IT.
You are right...
SkyHigh87 Your comment makes the sixth, for sure. I suscribe every single word you wrote. I saw it live on TV. I could feel Freddy there too.
6. after 3:46', at 4:03' Bryan's BIG smile!
.
BestThing2 : Yes and in an interview George said about this performance that having seen this big smile from Bryan made him very proud, it was for him a Bryan approval of his performance
La única presentación de este show que realmente dignifica las dos enormes voces, las del supremo vocalista más grande de todos los tiempos como lo fue Freddie Mercury, y las del intérprete de esta versión el inmenso George Michael.
It has to be considered as one of the Greatest Live Performances Ever
Definitely! I'd put it along with this phenomenal one:

This is Freddie’s song, but George made this HIS song that night.
Too right!
Damn right he did !!
From his heart
GEORGE FOREVER AND EVER
@ Bryan Montanez Exactly.
4:05 Brian May's expression is priceless.
He was so proud of George at that moment. When George passed away Brian gave a very sweet and nice tribute on his Twitter but also said how sad and shocked he was of his death.
This still sends chills down my spine
Admiration
And Roger to
Brian knows George did this song justice and knew Freddie was smiling up in Heaven watching it
He did this song justice!! He killed it!!
You can actually see Brian smile because he knew George nailed it like no one else could.
There's an alternate cut where the audience nails "LOOOOOOOOOVVVEEEE," and Brian gets this ecstatic look on his face like he can't believe they just did that.
If you are watching this in March 2020...We need that solidarity and we all need to love in order to live

Best single British male vocal performance of all time. Flawless. What a legend.
Second to freddie
Better than Freddie
Seriously I Think you need to get the wax out ya ears Better than Freddie not even on the same level 😂😂 they are two completely different styles of voice .. watch live aid and get back to me .. 21 minutes of pure perfection ..
Plus Bowie , Elton and George Michael himself said how we going to top that .
