You will see Freddie's original version first then George Michael. After that, will see more detailed comparisons to this song the beginning and ending part. I prefer Geroge's version but love them both.

George Michael was without doubt the best singer of the day at Freddie's memorial concert. He outsang every "rock legend" that appeared on the day. Both magnificent singers. Probably the greatest of our generation.
You could give some credit and respect to the indeed rock legends tho

I think Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant were awful too. I've never liked or rated Daltrey, but like a lot of Elton John's music.
I thought it just demonstrated the immense talent and diversity of George Michael against others in the world of rock.
George was undoubtedly the best... Search for the rehearsal, and he blew them, there away already.. They clapped and you saw the admeration in their eyes...

As so many others have said, Freddie Mercury was incredible and George Michael's version was an incredible tribute. There is nobody past or present who could've done that song justice other than George Michael.

I think George did an amazing job singing Somebody to Love. He hit the high notes beautifully and I couldn't think of anyone better to sing it other than Freddie himself.

Just based on the fact that Bryan May had a big smile on his face after George delivered that big note is pretty much all you need to know -- there can be no replacement for Freddie, but damn did George Michael kill it with his performance. Arguably the best performance out of that entire tribute concert.

After George first live performance, they all agreed that Freddy was irreplacable, despite George undeniable talent.

When I first saw and heard George Michael perform this song I had chills. No one will ever replace Freddie, but George sure as hell nailed it! It was also sad losing him as well. 2 incredible talents taken too soon.

I would like to comment on this comparison. First both had amazing clarity and crowd participation. Both have amazing, powerhouse voices!! The original, I believe was a great performance and showcase of Freddie's talent. Who can sing like that? Then there's Michael, a true artist of great caliber. His ending surely matched his predecessor with grace. Both are legends in their own right. AND both are terribly missed.

You just cant compare the two. They were both great performers in their own right! Freddie was the greatest!! George Michael was fantastic as well. I agree. You can't compare Freddie with anyone. He had a 4 octave range that many singers can't reach. Although MJ (4), Prince (4), Whitney (5), and Mariah (5) had ranges from 4-5 octaves (respectively). George Michael had a 3 octave range.

Both awesome singers and performers but George was singing this way better than Freddy did. Als keep in mind that Freddy has done that song hundreds of times with the band. George only rehearsed it for 5 days before having to perform this. Don't care what anyone says, Freddy was amazing but George was in a league of his own. His version is better than the original one and I'm sure Freddy would have agreed on that.

That is a very common sentiment but did you know the scriptures tell us details about this? God is loving and would never take someone from their loved ones. Job Ch 34 verse 11 says "For a certainty, God does not act wickedly". Also there are a myriad of angels as indicated in Revelation Ch 5 verse 11. If God wanted another angel he could simply create one!
The truth is unfortunately people make decisions for which there are consequences. These men lives very high risk lifestyles that caught up with them.

It's great to see and hear how a singer - so different from Freddie - has managed to make one of the most powerful and legendary rock songs of our time his own. His voice always remains clean, crystal clear, velvety even when he hits those high notes... A voice that can always produce the most pleasing harmonies in the high register as well as the low one. And this is a peculiarity of George Michael. Such an extraordinarily talented man... What can I say? A tribute that truly honours a legend. ❤❤❤
I think George's version at the tribute concert was one of the best vocals that I had ever heard live. This was a massive turning point for George where everybody watching suddenly appreciated his immense talent even if they weren't a fan. I love watching this, he knocked everybody else off the park that day. RIP George, so greatly missed.

George was wonderful, fans worldwide miss him, but there was, and only ever will be, one Freddy Mercury. A 4 octave vocal range, the man was insanely gifted and used it well. RIP Freddy, you are missed.
George had 4 octave plus, which is why he killed the song. He also sounded more polished. Both gifted and excellent musicians.

There is NO COMPARISON here because both were GREAT, ICONIC, and LEGENDARY. We all should be so lucky to have had these two gifted talented human beings who had this God given talent and shared it with us. I thank god that we have all of these videos available to us that all us who loved these two great singers the ability to not only hear their music but view them as if they have never left us. And for many they still haven't!

@montanadoctor Karen Carpenter the best? I prefer Janis Joplin, so for me she is 'better'. McCartney didn't impress me much either. I thought George H. wrote much better songs.....Personal preferences I guess.
Also I love both versions of 'Somebody to Love', I am a great fan of Freddy but I find it impossible to compare these two versions, they are both so damn good.

I don't particularly like your trinity but I don't expect you to like my favourites or to even consider them. Basically we all have different tastes.
George Michael did fantastically well and is the version if honest I listen to most. But it's Freddies song and there is nothing left to say about this legend... RIP 🙏
George did the thing the audience like me wanted most... Sing the heart out with all you have similar to the recorded version the best you can on the live stage with high respect.

Ну, не их, а исполнение можно сравнить. У Фредди зашкаливающая энергия, рваное исполнение, а у Джорджа Майкла более профессиональное исполнение, сглаженное, ровное по нотам. Если что люблю обоих безмерно.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that George was the best at the show. Elton John did amazing at the tribute concert singing "The Show Must Go On" it is a hard song to sing and he did so good.
I remember watching Freddie's tribute concert live on TV back in 1992 and it was absolutely amazing with all the different talent singing Queen songs! But I have to admit that George Michael blew everyone away with his live performance of Somebody to Love. In an interview George said he was deeply inspired and going through many emotions at that time since his boyfriend (who was in the audience) was dying of AIDS too.

I've always loved Freddie, but I loved George's singing as well. They both left too early from this earth! Both are very missed!!! ❤
