Yes, I do believe I like the tone of the Goya better.

By a direct comparison like this I think the Gibson have a smoother top end that I like. But the Goya is a no brainer if I found one.
    Great guitar.

My thoughts have always been that the guitar one uses should not depend on how much you paid for it. It should be based on what sound are you looking for. This Goya GE-500 sounds like a perfect replacement for a Gibson. They both have their own distinctive nuances but equally able to do the job. When it comes to my guitars, I don't go past $1400 threshold in price. Guitars from around $500 to $1000 sound great enough to record and perform. Most of the guitar debates are from musicians being influenced by their favorite musician. And instruments are setting prices based on demand and not necessarily because the quality is better. I used a Squier guitar for live shows in front of 12,000 people and I don't mind using it to record an album.

Agreed. I've played some inexpensive guitars that were well crafted and played and sounded great, and some expensive guitars that weren't all that great. In this case, both the Goya and the Gibson are well crafted. The Goya sounds a bit more acoustic because of its design. A more accurate comparison would be to compare the Goya to an actual L5 CES, but I don't have one of those lying around.
