The huge difference you hear is due to speakers.
The speakers are likely the most significant factor, but the 6V6s vs. 6L6s would also have an impact.
Sooo cool a jazz guy only played a tele!!
Love this girl!
Awesome Song!!!
the older guitar sounded better
I'm actually impressed with how nice the Epi sounds and compares with the vintage Gibson. I wonder, if it is still around, how the Epi will sound after 70 years of maturation. Both are very nice instruments, especially for their respective cost.
Epiphone has definitely upped its game.
I thought the VR won at low volume. At volume 6, the DR completely came alive and destroyed the VR. Thanks for the comparison! These comparisons should always be taken with a grain of salt, as every example of a given Fender model from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s varied. This is how it was given that all these amps were handwired. But for these two examples, I’d go with the Deluxe Reverb.
Thanks. Also check out the rematch video, with the VR's bright switch on.
@@Kilgore40 Oh, awesome! Didn’t know about that one, thanks!
Ed would of made a great James Bond. Certainly the coolest
Apparently Ed Bickert played this same Fender Telecaster most of his career, beginning on a Gibson ES-175. The "12th Fret" worked on his guitar, and said he had it refretted at least 4-5 times there over the years. He used regular light gauge 10-46 strings, and the humbucker is a PAF reissue. Maestro Bickert would have sounded wonderful playing anything, but obviously he bonded with this guitar. That is how it should be, nowadays players have dozens of guitars, even more pedals, while the greats in the past just had one main guitar and plugged straight into their amp. The tone he gets is wonderful, and he has complete mastery of his instrument, a true Maestro!
That's awesome Sherri!
Very nice !
If I had $20
Great presentation Sherri
❤ my talented co-worker.. Sher 😁
Amazing as always !
Love it Sherri..what a Beautiful Voice
Love this!!
The Epiphone sounds better but not a great deal in it. Suspect if you put humbuckers on them they would sound even better.
Love the song. Why didn't you join us on stage the other night?
Beautiful. ❤
WOW! Sounds Amazing! Your feeling definitely came across in this song! You are an awesome Singer/Songwriter Sherri Chenard!! Love You!
I have been your crazy stocker Bestie since '82 girlie!!!❤
Etta Jane's a natural!
Can feel the raw emotion. Well done!
This is an excellent comparison, thanks! Both sound different, both sound great. You NEED one of each!
The Vibrolux has a more saturated sound throughout. At 6, the Deluxe kicks in it's signature breakup, while the Vibrolux gets more saturation. It isn't until 8 that the Vibro seems to start to breakup. Both amps sound fantastic, and each has it's own place in the amp world.
I agree. The Deluxe breaks up sooner, but I would describe the Vibrolux as having a sweeter and smoother distortion. Thanks, Bob.
@@Kilgore40 Yes, that is a better description. BTW, did you use an attenuator for this test?
@@bobmcgrath8784 Yes, an attenuator to save my neighbours' ears.
Very similar
I had a 1977 SFDR but a couple years ago sold it. It may be considered low power but it was way too loud for my purposes. I hated to sell an SF amp because it would have been nice to keep but I don't want to just to be a collector so I sold it and took the money. I bought it for $275 in 1997 from a college kid in Long Beach, CA and put $400 more into it to get it working right. I still have my 1971 SFPR which I like better. I bought that from a studio musician in 1999 for $325 in Hollywood.
Love your Bricklin poster behind you. Love Bricklins. Too bad they don't make them anymore. Love the Masterbilt. I am a fan of acoustic archtops and adding a floating DeArmond is very nice. I have a Gretsch G400 cutaway Synchromatic. I have a vintage 1960s floating single coil pickup similar to a floating DeArmond.
Thanks for the comment. The poster was from a musical I played for called "The Bricklin: An Automotive Fantasy." ruclips.net/video/Ay4OhjTEOSg/видео.htmlsi=nRyAcRqJhhq6BAwm
L7 for sure
I play a Artist tele with humbuckers but for some reason it doesn't play jazz it must be the wrong colour or something . 💓🎸. Beautiful playing., 👍.
Good morning! Through your video, I liked this Epiphone MBD and bought one. Would it be possible to make another video with it sounding through this DeArmond pickup? I'm also interested in buying one of these to put on mine.
I'll try to do that soon. Thanks.
Sorry, I didn't thank you for your important demonstration. Thanks!
You're very welcome. Thanks.
First heard way back in the 60s just an awesome musician.
Different pickups... It's not worth it.
Not sure what you mean. This is a comparison of the acoustic sound. The pickups don't come into play.
I didn't realize the comparasion was just acoustic...
What a score! I'm a huge fan of the larger Gibson amps from the early 50's to early 60's. Some of them can really boogie.
Love this! Love your interpretation. Are you referencing some sheet music or tabs by chance? (I'd be interested in somehow getting a copy...)
Thank you. I think I just had the Real Book lead sheet in front of me and played through it a few times to work out an arrangement on the fly. I might have transcribed it, though. I'll have a look and post if I did.
I bought same model on the road in 79 for $150. A little later while I was out of town, my Dad figured I didn't want it anymore and took it to his office garage sale, where I'm certain someone got an even better deal. I recall it didn't sound great and likely needed much work. I forgive you Dad.
Ouch. 😢
Love the Tone it produces. ❤
Son of a gun! Eternally jealous 🙌
I have a 62 es175 blonde, what year is yours
Mine is a 2004 sunburst. Trade ya. ;-)
Only Amp i would ever need.
Very cool amp. Can you tell me what you paid for it?
Significantly less than the $1999.95 CAD they were asking.
Must be a thrill to find a classic...especially when you know what you are looking at!
Pretty exciting. Thanks, Bob.
Gibson for the strumming is better I think ,clearer separation of notes but the Epiphone picking is a nice sound and it looks nice ,I would buy one if in the market for this sort of guitar.
I love the way he’s got the little alun key for the bridge screws taped to the scratch plate on his tele ,
Yes, reportedly The Twelfth Fret taped it there after a repair and Ed just left it.
Sir you are an incredible guitarist. I am so impressed at how effortless you make that song seem. I aspire to be just ten percent as good as you are. I have always love the melody in Alison. Elvis Costello was my high school favorite in 1980
High praise indeed. Thank you.
Now how do i put them back on
I'm sure StewMac would sell you a tool. :-)
Greetings. Always nice to listen to old Fender amps. Are the recordings going to tape or through some kind of tape plugin? Cool old amplifiers.
No tape or plugin. SM57 through a Focusrite Scarlett 212 and directly into Reaper with no post-production. Thanks for your comment.
Thanks. I hear some wobble that sounds like tape flutter, for example at 01:52 - 01:58. I guess it's guitar vibrato and/or old electronics. Sounds nice anyway.
I don't know if it's the new strings but I prefer the tone of the 2016 model Epiphone, VG playing, IMO. I bet you the Gibson with some better with new strings. The Gibson still sounds great the way it is, just not quite the same bell like tone.
Fantastic! Very suave and beautiful chords. 🙏
Thank you.
