Another musician in full command of his instrument who hasn't lost his humility and humor. Cool dude PG.
Back when the full video interview came out, I watched. I love Paul's energy, honesty, and his humble attitude. A rock guitar hero for sure.
Not heard much of his work but what a thoroughly nice bloke and refreshingly not up himself about his talent, which is considerable.
@@martin-1965 You been missing out, He's modest! Paul Gilbert is an Honest to god virtuoso.
@@goryburk Oh I 100% see that now. We live in a world with so many great musicians there are still 100s if not 1,000s I am yet to appreciate properly. However, an hour in his company with Rick has made me want to explore Paul's work more. Top fella totally :)
@@martin-1965 Paul's "Fuzz Universe" album is phenomenal
What I love about Paul is whenever he talks and plays guitar, his passion, joy, and enthusiasm makes it seem like he just discovered the instrument yesterday. He gets excitement out of the simplest things like a bend in an almost child-like way. For someone like me who's been playing for 20+ years, that's incredibly inspiring.
Paul is such a great teacher that it's ridiculous. there's only two words to describe what shows on his face when he plays... musical joy....
I'll never forget him saying motioning with his left hand, "this is the steering wheel." Then motioning with his right hand says, "This is the gas pedal." What an amazing allegory. And it's true.
Paul playing the Rocky theme just made my day!! Pablo Gilberto Forever!
I love when he says “within my limit of ability”. How many guitarists have his level of ability. Such a humble class act; Paul is great!
The way PG still plays with such a sense of joy and wonder and creativity is inspiring.
This is Gary Oldman's best performance.... never breaks character, nails the accent, even learned to play guitar! Helluva actor.
So true. Ever notice that Neil Young and Bill Belichick are never seen in the same place at the same time?
Haha 🤣
I laugh with this ajsjsjsj
Hahaha!
*_Haha! I thought he looked like someone I've seen before!_*
"I wouldn't want to put that in a setlist....leave that to the professionals.".......that's funny.
The Rocky Theme shows beautifully what Paul has that many virtuosos lack, which is wit in their playing. He’s a very serious musician who has a light, joyful approach to the instrument, which is why we all love him so much.
I ❤ Paul Gilbert as a guitarist and even more as a genuine human being!
I don’t think anyone loves to play guitar more than Paul. Amazing. 🤘
Paul just brings me joy watching him talk or play
The way he plays so fast at the end… OH MY GOD!!!
Aw man love his Rocky jam!
I just lost it on that one.
It is a 15 second guitar masterclass. A ferocious beauty.
Paul is an underrated genious. His musical culture as a player is so huge
Oh please!
Calling Paul Gilbert underrated is ridiculous.
@@vintagepipesnightmares Yeah the guy who had the right hand picking at 17 and was thrust forth onto multiple successful projects, endorsements and bands isn't that guy. Not to mention he definitely hasn't revamped and changed his playing style time and time again.
Listen to 6:41-6:47 then skip to 7:06. PG is a legend and a hero for a reason. Dude burns people braincells with his shredding, knowledge, and technique and is abnormally humble. Definitely rock legend in my eyes. Glad people like Rick exist doing these types of interviews. You're doing every guitarist a favor.
This is what a true love of guitar and teaching looks like. Paul has a real passion for both.
Paul Gilbert is pure joy! Lights up my day to watch him!
Paul is such a crack up, " Leave that to the professionals" 😂. He's always so down to earth and humble, no arrogant attitude. Truly one of the best guitarists ever.
Paul is a beast! Listening since Racer X
Paul Gilbert is a super interesting fella. What a great teacher, too.
Paul Gilbert seems like one of the most genuine people in the music business, if not the world......and what a way to end the video!
Paul is an absolute legend and such a great guy.
One of my favourite guitarists, awesome 👍🤘
Love your channel and love Paul Gilbert
I was a classically trained pianist prior to playing guitar. My brain too wanted to make my fretting hand move in a linear fashion, it took a lot of effort to overcome that instinct and think across the fretboard instead of up and down according to pitch. Met Paul briefly one time at a guitar clinic, he was very gracious and polite, despite obviously being jet-lagged.
The world is a better place with Paul Gilbert in it.
Love how he brings up a 3 note lick and a number of ways you can finger that. This is the great thing with music, you can take 2-4 notes and it seems you have infinite options; the very hard thing is that you have infinite options. Too many choices screwed up many a musician. Love the excitement he still has for music.
Zero short cuts. This man has put in the hours practicing and it shows.
PG is the most unsung of virtuosos and I think he would have it no other way. Fortunately, his talent will not allow him to slip into the crowd but to shine a beam of light brighter than the sun.
My favorite guitar player. You think he's all mindless shredding because of his capabilities .... until you actually hear his music then you're blown away like his stuff with mr. Big..... Amazing
Plus he writes a lot of the lyrics!
An interview that has musical exemplification and not just talk. I like it!
His energy is infectious so much joy.
I recommend his starship yt video.
Paul's got such an immediately recognizable slide sound and style.
What a great 7 minutes of content, technique, and joy! Love PG! 🎸🎶🔥
PG always seems to be about having fun when playing the guitar! Excellent!!!
Love Paul! I bet he's great to hang with.
Such an amazing guitarist / musician, can tell he loves his craft , also great warm personality !
And what a master of the fretboard.
That Rocky guitar arrangement is absolutely awesome
Excellent example for one to practice…If one can sing it (hum it at least) it can be played. Awesome ear/vox/melody connection. Totally jealous
That slide on Rocky! 😄🔥
Whoah that stuff right at the end is very cool!
Thoroughly enjoy Paul's style of reviews, such good content.! 😊
Good grief. He’s fun, funny, an instinctive teacher, and, oh by the way, a virtuoso. Great video.
Paul Gilbert is awesome...great teacher.
Such a great player with such a great attitude.
superb clip from an outstanding interview, Paul is a manic maestro!
Man! I love listening to his take on guitar
Wow!! Paul is a vicious shredder and a great interview; hat's off to him for his technique advice; no wonder I couldn't play that stuff, I need to stick my elbow out a little further:)
Being able to move with ease on the fretboard is a major factor. Especially when you learned the basics and want to progress your playing. At least for me, I didn’t get better or see much improvement until I had a good guitar with just the right action and light strings.
The final part of the video is like "Fatality!" Gotta love PG 🤘🏻
sheesh i love paul soo much, especially the way he explains anything 😍
Amazing guitarist, never came across him before.
Paul should do that Chuck Mangione tune feels so good. lotta melody there and the guitar on that song kicks ass
Man, he's Andre the Giant tall. Rick looks like a little boy next to him.
One of my favorites!!
Who doesn’t love this guy?!
Right at the end he pulls out the "oh, by the way, I'm Paul Gilbert...."
Gotta Luv Paul, Good Dude
Love your channel
Paul is a Witch on Guitar! And he is all about the music and feel! Not to mention seems like great guy.
The Rocky theme made me laugh because it was so impressive and then they show Rick laughing just like I did. When I see something that impresses me on guitar I just laugh, does anyone else do this? You gotta Love Paul!
Paul Gilbert is awesome!
"Within my level of ability" LOL
The last 10 seconds all I could think was WTF. Loved Rocky too.
Paul is a national treasure.
"hahah. yeah I do all this bendy stuff" ... Rick falling asleep .....*SHREDS*
Lol, amazing, the rocky song, it sounds very nice
That Rocky Theme is the best!!
He is amazing!
Paul is a beast!!
i'm part of the 13%, Rick. You ROOOOOOOCK,
Paul is so great
Dude this is a win!
What blows me away are those players who use lots of tracks and secrete little sections of the guitar part that way, to build a whole piece. J.J. Cale would come to mind. Formidable imagination and musicality.
Paul has my vote on being one of the best players out there , Also gave lessons to years ago another favorite virtuoso guitarist Brian Patrick Carroll aka Buckethead !
Paul’s a beast
"i leave that to the pros"... what a legend
The shred at the end😂
"when you do a record like a DIO record how do you decide what you're gonna play?" "DIO songs"
Rick, to quote Don Fagen,
"I stepped up on the platform
The man gave me the news
He said, you must be joking son
Where did you get those shoes?
Where did you get those shoes?"
No really, where did you get those Adidas?
He's so cool.
Duane was a Master of slide and the tones he got while playing slide.
And THAT's how it's done. I need more lifetimes!!!
Excellent!
I love Mr. Big, though it was kinda strange that two of the best instrumentalists in the world had to pull back on the band’s biggest hits. Billy’s bass line on the ballad ‘Mr. Gone’ was fire, though.
Now this is interesting
Paul gilbert is the best rock guitarist on earth maybe heaven or hell too. I would put him against eddie, jimi, stevie ,angus, eric, malmesteen, i could go on..😮 . He would destroy anyone in every way...i havent seen him since getbout of my garage..hes older but gd what a beast .
Jezz!..its like the guitar is just another body part of his!...the hours his must have put in playing has gotta be over 20k!
Ace Frehley and that famous vibrato!
GOD BLESS PAUlL GILBERT and GOD BLESS RICK BEATO
Oi!! Gary Oldman is on your show today, Rick!
At least that would work in my level of ability? Haha really Paul? You are a jedi master when it comes to guitar playing! And your ability is so strong that there is no limit to your ability. So Humble Paul is 🖖
I would never thought high action. I know mt strat action is higher than my charvel action. I love love playing my strat. I love the charvel too but maybe i should tweak the action some.
He nails Eric Johnson's hybrid picking run *but using a pick alone* and then says he struggles through it. Yeah, Paul! 😅😅😅
Mr Big in tha house
His version of Baba O'reily is amazing
Rocky Rocky Rocky!!!
With all due respect to the immortal greats , Paul Gilbert is quite possibly the world’s greatest guitarist of all time.
