My buds were in a cover band called damage inc.. Hung out watching them at practice, my buds says, bro you should play bass.. He wrote down the tab for " for whom the bell tolls".. My first tune I learned.. 1992 🤘
My older brother had the song book Harvest by Neil Young back in 82. That's how I learned chords. From there went to dirty distortion learning AC/DC. So on and so on, all by ear. Too poor to hire a teacher and there was no U-Tube back then.
Lots of us started way, way before YT. So much easier now. A quick search and you can find a lesson on nearly any song. They may not be complete, but they will get you started.
@@rediron44 there was a time back in late 70's I think it was. Kiss did an interview with I believe was Tom Snyder. He was a talk show host. You gotta pull it up, it's on RUclips. Ace had me rolling. He was obviously drunk or whatever. It was hysterical. The best part of that interview was watching Gene Simmons really pissed off. If you can check it out. Let me know if you were laughing/liked it.
Fascinating to see. I wonder what the 1st riffs of my heroes were? Malmsteen, Vai, Impellitteri, Iommi, Eric Johnson, Joe Bonamassa. Can we add our own? For me it was Black Sabbath (the song), then Krakatoa (Malmsteen), & the Erotic Nightmares (Vai).
Says a Van Halen riff - then proceeds to demonstrate one that Van Halen did a cover of and never acknowledged The Kinks and the original version and the impact of that distorted guitar in the early 60s on the history of music. Plus Sunshine Of Your Love played in completely the wrong place - watch how Clapton plays it......
Dude, shut up. Jesus Christ. He’s talking about who got him into guitar and you’re over there sitting in your underwear in your mom’s basement acting like you know what you’re talking about.
Dude, John 5 is literally written all kinds of music. Have you ever seen him with the creatures? Have you ever seen him do the banjo stuff I mean he’s written all kinds of music dude.
Have you never seen any of his solo material? 🤔 doesn’t sound like you have. He literally tours solo with his own music. I saw him about a year ago or so for one of his solo shows. The man is brilliant with a guitar.
I wake up everyday and say "Why do I have to be a musician?" Everybody is an attention hungry birthday party clown for hire. Is there anybody out there that actually works and isn't crying for attention with big hats and hair doos or some genre specific outfit. John 5 what a clown. Literally same outfit. Zack Wylde with his toque. Really cute pal. ZW riffs are the same riffs Les Paul plays when he is trying to be funny. Sum 41 buddy's hat!! Too funny. Just cause these guys can play, doesn't mean they aren't posers. They love to talk about themselves. Even more than music. Don't even get me started with goofball companies like "Loudwire" Can't believe any musician even gives you guys the time of day.
Incredibly talented and diverse guitarist. Played with David Lee Roth, Marilyn Manson, and Rob Zombie and is currently playing with Motley Crüe. Not necessarily the most advanced music, but check out the Loudwire video where he plays a kids guitar that you might find in a Wal-Mart. He's knows his shit.
Haha Richie Faulkner…” I will attempt to play it somewhat like Jimi does”- then proceeds to nail it….Richie is a Gem 💎
closest i've ever heard to the original
Nuno Bettencourt and Mick Mars are the most underrated guitarist of all time and never get the due they deserve.
Agreed !
Micks riffs made me think about how to play guitar
@@infinidominion yup. He's so good. He(the Crue)got me into hard rock music as a kid
Nuno is arguably in a top tier section, which is so much more shameful he's not known
nuno is not underrated. everyone knows him. mic mars bleh
AC/DC and Van Halen the GOATs of hard rock
I thought they were people.
+ GnR
Stop the copium
Van Halen sucks
Dio
Aint talkin bout love was what got me, still one of my favorite riffs
Oh man I remember playing this with the flanger/delay and thinking I was god 🤣
Great to see the respect and joy that these guys still have playing even "simple" riffs from the past
My buds were in a cover band called damage inc.. Hung out watching them at practice, my buds says, bro you should play bass.. He wrote down the tab for " for whom the bell tolls".. My first tune I learned.. 1992 🤘
That Sum 41 fella played the Zep riff like a champ 👊
That song trips so many people up even experienced due to the timing
Jerry Cantrell

Love Zakk, he's talented and has a great sense of humor.
John 5 can play guitar
Very underrated. He plays so smooth and effortless 👍
And he's such a cool guy to met!
Can’t take him seriously
@@danadams1661 ok but his skills are very serious
Wonderful to see the inspiration behind some of the greatest musicians alive today 🎶
Ace Frehleys riff on Watchin You, is flat out nasty, such a cool riff.

Interesting to hear who these guys admire as guitar players 🤔
It was Stranglehold for me. Then Kiss, STYX, REO Speedwagon, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore & The Carpenters. (for my mom)
This is freaking amazing

AWWSOME
Diary of a madman
That sunshine of your love rendition was...something lol
Not sure what, but it was.
Cool seeing Tom Keiffer...
Smoke on the water was my first riff learnage.
Rock on dudes
That intro got me to.
John 5 was just like...i mean he was like...like he was like
Don’t forget ozzy
I really want to introduce Doc Coyle to Killing Joke's 1985 song Eighties.
When I learned Black Dog I felt invincible.
Doc Coyle represents me!
You misspelled THE FIRST RIFF into the title
Jimmy Page likes his own work so well he plays himself in a Zepplin tribute band . True story
"My number one guitarist was always Jimmy Page. From the band Led Zeppelin."
Thanks for clarifying that 😁
No one said "the Beatles" ...I'm old
An i cant even play. Was years back n great.
Sunshine of your love, really?…. Did he play it in A and played wrongly
What’s the riff from the KISS song?
The riff is from Detroit Rock City
Yeah right Ellis, as if you could't play Eruption right now 😂
You never need to say "of the bang Led Zeppelin". If you do get new friends.
PAY RESPECT TO YOUR FORE-FATHERS!!!! 😎
I wrote the most iconic riff of all time, but I'm sharing it with no one!
greatest song in the world -tenacious
😂🤣 😳
and then SRV could play anyone - better than they could themselves....maybe even including Jimi

Dat earing is taken for the mosquitoes machine?
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Eddie never had that button
Hard Rock, where is QUO'S 4500 times for fuck sake.
Geesh when you gonna light those mosquito coils?
What is the name of the first riff???
It sounds like "You Really Got Me". Which was originally a Kinks song, but I guess the Van Halen version became iconic in its own right.
@@Gordanovich02 it is indeed "You really got me" my man
That's a wig
Which one? I think I spotted a couple.
Petrucci’s beard😂
What has John 5 ever written...same with Phil X...nada. Playing isn't about playing, it's about creating

I have all of John 5’s solo albums and they are nuts, so eclectic
Phil X I think wrote some music for some of Kelly Clarkson’s hits
Never heard of most of these people.
Curious to know which ones. There are a lot of modern day legends on here
Got to give them a listen
Same here
Which people? The ones playing or the ones they mention?
Paranoid by Black Sabbath.
lmfao
Delete back street boys from music history. It's only Rock and roll what inspire genius
