    This is exactly what i needed. I just bought the Sony ZV-1 and patiently am waiting for it but i also got the Ulanzi WL-1. My main issue was that it's bulky and heavy so I wouldn't want to leave it on every time and have to unscrew it before turning it off or screw it on before after turning it on cause this might cause issues for the motor inside. Screwing it on and off seemed like a pain so this is the perfect solution. Just use the magnet to plop it on without the pain of screwing it on. Great great video thank you :)

    Hey Tech 👋
    Just a helpful tip for those interested in grabbing the ulanzi wl1. I would recommend turning the camera on before attaching the lens. Due to the added weight it put extra wear on the motor. Also when powering on with the lense attached pointing the camera up or down helps aswell. Zv1 is my first camera and I'm still learning the ropes but I really enjoy it so far 😊

    • @TechTravelBeyond
      @TechTravelBeyond  9 месяцев назад +1

      The original reason I purchased the magnetic mount was for ND filters on an RX-100Vii, the predecessor to the ZV-1. With variable NDs, you can set them according to the lighting conditions (Sunny, partly cloudy, etc) just like you could on a regular camera before putting the ND on. Since the mount is magnetic, if you try to spin the filter ring while on the magnetic mount, the entire thing may just spin, so setting it before placing it on the mag-mount works best. Remember, the point of variable NDs is to avoid having to carry extra filters, so this is an easy compromise.

      To remove an adhesive mount, power off and take out the battery. The lens is in the closed position, and take a card lik a credit card and try sliding that between the mount and the lens. As you do, be careful and do not pry upward. You don’t want to take the lens off the motor and tracks. If anything, just slide the card straight through and take your time. When removed take a cotton swab with some rubbing alcohol to remove any residue, but only enough so it doesn’t seep into the lens or tube.

    I purchased that Magfilter adapter.. which is promoted as working great with the Ulanzi wide angle. I am very dissapointed. The mag adapter is very thick and therefore the wide angle is pushed too far away from the camera resulting in a less focused image and bad vignetting. Im sticking with a thin adhesive screw adapter - which produces no vignetting and sharper focus.

    Do you worry about the weight of the Ulanzi? It’s a pretty heavy lens...definitely heavier than a filter. Are the magnets strong enough?

    • @TechTravelBeyond
      @TechTravelBeyond  3 года назад +3

      Hi Eric! Yes, the Ulanzi WL-1 is heavy! I didn’t like the idea of sticking the Ulanzi plate because it screws on. The magnetic mount works for me so I can put the lens on after the camera’s lens extends, and take it off before it retracts. If you keep it on while powering on and off the camera, it could put wear on the motor. The other thing, you’re not screwing something onto the lens tube while it’s extended. While the Magfilter is a good solution, it’s not optimal for running around with it or in a situation where it can be bumped off. Most of my vlogging or camera shoots aren’t that. If so, I’d use an action camera!

      You can. Turn off the camera and remove battery. Lay camera flat with lens up. Carefully slide a credit card or a rigid plastic card inwards underneath the screw on adapter toward the center of the lens but do not pull-up so you don’t extend the lens and take it off its rails. Do it all around the adapter to loosen the adhesive. It should come off. Once off, take a small cloth and dip it into a small amount of rubbing alcohol to remove any adhesive residue. I used the mag filter adapter on the ZV-1 and the RX100-VII. It’s great because only the mag ring is on the end of the lens barrel, and I’ve used the mag adapter with the wide angle lens when I’ve needed to. The other reason is I can use ND filters with the adapter on the RX100 since it doesn’t have a digital ND like the ZV1 has. It’s up to you, but with the mag filter, you only stick the small mag ring and you don’t have the wonky plate of the WL1 hanging off your lens. As long as you only use the WL1 when you need it your good. If you want it on all the time, then you have the weight issue with the retractable lens barrel. I’m currently carrying the RX100 without the wide angle lens and mag filter, and you’d never know the mag ring is in the end of the lens. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

    Not to mention that if you use the adhesive, it eventually stops sticking. Then you either lose adhesive, or like me your adhesive is stored in a warm place and it loses all stickiness. Now the adapter is useless. It is a shame this does not work the way it should at full wide focal length, it defeats the purpose of the filter and the fast aperture.

      The adhesive plate is so big and distracting when you’re not using the wide angle add on lens too! I use the ZV1 in my home studio with a teleprompter set up and the wide angle lens and plate don’t work it. Thanks for watching!

    Hi, can you use the wide lens and adjustable ND filter together on the ZV1? Thanks Icecy...

      You can, and the size is on the inside of the Ulanzi lens cover.

      You know the zv1 has a built in ND filter too, right?
