Hi, does this work if I don't use the macro part of the lens? Just thinking of minimizing the thickness. Using a zv1f, planning to get a step up ring to 55mm following the size of the wide angle diameter.
We use a Tiffen 52mm uv filter on the ZV-1, but you can use any UV or similar clear filter to protect your lens. Note, this will not make your lens waterproof, it just adds some splash protection and also protects the factory lens against dirt, debris, sparks, etc.
Technically, yes you can put a UV filter on first and then attach the Ulanzi to the UV filter. In theory it changes the focal plane of the Ulanzi but we didn't notice a dramatic effect on the sharpness.
So far, so good. It’s been on the camera for 5 months now and the wide lens has been used and removed many times, along with a variety of different filters. That said, in my use of the camera, it doesn’t get knocked around a lot. It’s often used on a tripod or gently handheld. I can’t really speak to how it might hold up to rough/rigorous handling of the camera with the lens attached. I would imagine extreme temperature swings might come into play for the longevity of the adhesive too. Mine doesn’t get left in a hot car or get used in hot sunlight or in super-cold weather very much.
@@MechanicSecrets thank you for such a detailed response. Mine will be mostly used inside my room on a tripod for making videos. So the temperature and rough handling won't be an issue. Just that when i mount and unmount the camera with the lens from a tripod it feels nervous with the extra weight added to it.
You should be fine. And let’s be honest, the factory lens on the ZV1 is just not wide enough for many common set ups. For $50 the Ulanzi is a game changer.
No. If you only want to be able to put a filter on the camera, the Lensmate will work fine. But, if you had any inclination that you might want wide angle capability, the Ulianzi functions as a much more solid filter holder, in addition to the wide angle/macro ability with no Lensmate needed.
You solved all , excellent presentation sir.
Thanks! Hope it helped.
Very awesome video, love that you pointed out every little detail. Super informative!
Hey, thanks!
Perfect video.... I was looking to protect my lens for RX100 VII and i got it finally. Thank you. :)
Hey, thanks!!! Glad it helped!
@@MechanicSecrets This same kit also fits on "Sony RX100 VII" also?
@@rahulpawartubeI haven't tried it personally but it should.
@@MechanicSecrets i found it it does not...for VI and VII you need different adaptor
Do you have a link to any footage using any of the filters and/or the wide angle lens?
This is the weirdest thing ever, I literally jsut bought this exact cakes and lens haha great video
What are the odds? Good luck with it Jake!

Great video, thank you very much. Can you tell me what exact filter you use to protect the lens from water.

@@MechanicSecrets Thank you very much.
Thank you this was helpful
Awesome! Glad it helped. And thank you for motivating me to finally get the video done. Good luck!!!
Awesome! Can you use the uv filter and the ulanzi at the same time? Adding the ulanzi to the uv?

damn good video man
Thanks so much!
Is the glue strong enough for the wide angle lens to hold properly?
