- With Tesla aiming for a ramp-up in 2024 and 2025, as they look to unleash a slew of products this year, one thing that would be crucial to their success would be how efficiently they can make their Megachargers work.
Tesla plans to release their Semi and Cybertruck pretty soon, and for that to happen, you need to have efficient chargers that would meet the charge times indicated on their sites.
So, we expect Tesla to employ four versions of charging infrastructure for the time being.
THE WAY OF MEGACHARGERS
Firstly, their version 2 chargers. These chargers have a 150-kilowatt output, but they have been in use for a while and are the most common chargers out there today; they are at least a decade old, so we and hopefully Tesla would be phasing them out for faster chargers with higher outputs like their Version 3 and 4 chargers.
The version 3 chargers have a 250-kilowatt output. Still, going by what Elon has said about them, we could see the maximum output of these chargers bumped by 50 kilowatts, giving us a 300-kilowatt output from the version 3 chargers.
Version 4 chargers are expected to be launched in 2023. Although Tesla is yet to release a specific power output, we expect a minimum output of 500 kilowatts so that the long-range Cybertruck can charge at the same rate as the rest of Tesla's vehicle fleet.
That leaves our last charger, the Megacharger, which we expect to have around 2 megawatts of power output, and here's why.
Tesla set an expectation of over 1 megawatt at the Tesla Semi event, and realistically it'd need at least 2 megawatts of output from the Megachargers to meet the charge times it has advertised on the Semi.
The 1-megawatt goal aligns with early last year's reports that it would be around 1.5 megawatts.
However, the most recent report from PepsiCo to Reuters is that they will be installing 4,750 kilowatts stalls at both their Modesto and Sacramento locations. They also said that the Semi charges from 0 to 80 percent within 35 to 45 minutes, and that figure only cause some discrepancy.
So what does this mean? Could it be that Tesla does not have the required charger to meet its touted reports?

Tesla is changing from "Megachargers" to wireless charging, which is needed for their Robotaxies
I think Toyota had the better idea: which is to say, make the batteries in EVs hot swappable so that you can charge the batteries without immobilizing the car. Now, Toyota was having robots do the swapping, but I think the batteries should be removeable and replaceable by the owner. That way the owner can charge a spare battery at home while out driving, then swap the batteries for the next day.
Toyota is not doing that. You seem to be like a troll.
@@cre8tvedge Really? I saw a video a while back that Toyota (I think it was Toyota) was designing EVs with swappable batteries and a robot station that would automatically swap them out.

In any case, swapping batteries seems like such an obvious thing to do to charge EVs up quickly that I'm amazed EVs weren't designed from the get go to have their batteries be manually replaced.
@@noppornwongrassamee8941 Two or more startups have attempted this. There is a Chinese company that has the most success but haven't heard anything of them in over a year. Tesla had originally planned to do it. While the switchover is time wise about the same as pumping gas the batterys still must be charged and the infrastructure to make this system work is much larger and more costly than charging stations. Given that most charging is at home or work or hotels it's main viability is for road trips. I think the money and large infrastructure work against it.

So what's the service life of these battery packs? For example, most mobile devices do not have the capability to change them.
If two tesla semi want to charge; then the charger would have to have at least 3 megapack batteries and probably more since cars will also be charging. So maybe 4 or 5 megapacks.
remember that power will be coming into the charging station while charging semi and cars. I presume the grid connection is 3 phase and at least 600 vac...does that make the
input essentially 1800 volts at ? amps? maybe 200 amps? 360,000 watts? In 30 minutes charging time the grid will supply about 18kwh. that's not much compared to how much
5 megapacks hold --- 5mega watt hours.
oops, i left out a zero...the 18kwh should be 180kwh input...or about six hours to recharge one megapack?

i believe very soon tesla will make auto mag connect charger... so the driverless auto come to the charging station... it can connect to charge without people help... maybe a charger stick? "ready to get sticked cars" can just go up to it for a stick lol
