When you have to pay a 100% tariff to buy a car you want, that's not "freedom". It's corporate welfare that YOU are paying for. GM, Ford, Stellantis: Do what Xpeng is doing, make us inexpensive good cars, or get out of the car business and start making toasters, or strollers, or bicycles. We need AFFORDABLE cars again.

I think EVs will be cheaper to produce than tailpipe cars just on parts reduction alone. The reason why we see numbers like the battery pack is 40% of the cost is that the rest of the car is not expensive to make. As battery cost comes down and large castings are used more EVs will be profitable. However, I think gas cars will be popular for a time as a "display of wealth". Meaning it shows you can afford one and afford the fuel and maintenance.

I very much doubt the range figure. Comparing the car to a Bolt EV, which I owned for a short time, it is slightly heavier and has a 4 kWh smaller battery so while it likely has lower aerodynamic drag than the Bolt I doubt the range could be too much greater than the Bolt's 259 miles (419 km) on the EPA scale. No matter though even if the range is 260 miles at that price it still is a phenomenal value. Alas with tariffs of 100% on Chinese EVs here in the US (and now in Canada) and no Federal subsidy they won't be selling here any time soon.
