It was a win-win. Tesla got a super-efficient giant factory to meet production demand, and China used the chance to build a complete EV supply chain that benefits all EV companies in China. The competition Tesla brought also set standards and sharpened Chinese EV competitiveness.
when western goes to other countries and beat down those markets they claim should be open free market and protectionism is bad for economy and competition. Yes a lot of people forget that when Musk bought Tesla (hopefully everyone knows he didn't start the company?) he never dreamed he'd be this successful. His goal was to make EV's glamorous and desirable enough to create a wave of consumer interest that would force governments and the legacy auto industry (which having been in cahoots with the fossil fuel industry from the start tended to scuttle or downplay any and all attempts at alternate technology - they even opposed unleaded fuel if anyone is old enough to remember) to start the move away from oil. That's why he did things like put a Tesla Roadster in space and create Ludicrous Mode in the Type S. To get people talking. And he has succeeded, EVs have always existed, I remember milk delivery vans in England in the 80s were battery powered, he made them sexy and mainstream. That is what the world owes Musk. But I have never liked EVs as a concept. 90% of a car's operating pollution is not exhaust emissions, it is tyre and brake dust and others such things which are exactly the same for an EV as for ICE (worse for EVs in some cases because they are so much heavier and consume tyres and brakes faster). So you are only reducing 10% by switching to EV. Meanwhile the effort and expense of building additional electric generation and distribution has been eye-watering and finally the heavy earths and metals used in EVs are far worse than fossil fuels in terms of the environmental costs of extracting, tranporting and processing them. Japan interestingly carefully evaluated both electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell and they chose to go with hydrogen as a true future vehicle propulsion technology. But Musk's success at promoting EVs started a snowball effect especially in terms of the regulatory landscape around the world which made it more and more unlikely that hydrogen would be able to catch up or to compete. And that is a crying shame. So many times the lesser technology has won over the better in the market. Like Betamax and VHS in the video-cassette days and this is another example. However I think hydrogen is making a slight come-back, especially as they have now cracked how to make hydrogen fuel less expensive and more environmentally friendly at the production stage (look up Blue and Green Hydrogen). There are still challenges about distribution but instead of needing to to build new infrastructure from scratch a lot of it can be managed by upgrading and converting existing infrastructure like gas pipelines, storage and distribution. It's going to be interesting how things go. I'm rooting for hydrogen and I will hold on to ICE for as long as I can until then.
There should be healthy collaboration between all these companies manufacturing electric vehicles which will help to make this tech available to common people.
But once again the US government will not allow their people to have affordable goods or even healthcare Once again the us goverment works for the rich companies not for their PEOPLE

Both BYD and Tesla are growing and the ICE market is shrinking. So the question is who is growing faster by taking away the ICE market. BYD sells lower cost market cars segment, mostly in China, so they will grow faster. Tesla growth will speed up once they move into the low $30,000’s and $20,000’s cars, either by improving the manufacturing cost of model 3 or/and making the Model 2. The protectionism of US and EU can only backfire. EV adoption has slowed significantly in the US due to the lack of competition and infrastructure. As far as I know, BYD has built new factories in Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Hungary, Brazil, Mexico, and other countries around the world

German cars will be sold mainly in Germany....other countries are BYD market
well there is also france which has big car industry, actually I thing france is much tougher market for them, in germany you have lots of foreigners, they dont care for german car brands (except showoffs)
the editor of the video seems to suggest BYD's rise is due to cheap prices and government subsidies. well, they overlooked the fact that Tesla also enjoys tax compensation or subsidies from Chinese government. In this regard, they're treated equally in China. So the rest of it is just their market strategy and products charm.
>> well, they overlooked the fact that Tesla also enjoys tax compensation or subsidies from Chinese government.

Once again, chinese named account trying to huff copium defending this crap. You do realise Chinas own internal decisions don't change the fact that in the west neither brand is subsidized, and due to this BYD's cost almost as much as some older teslas. BYD cars in China are much much cheaper than in foreign markets, The reason why BYD Automobile has a cost advantage is due to China's huge economies of scale, fierce market competition, and efficient manufacturing indsutries as a whole, not just BYD, VW also much cheaper in China than in Europe.
if byd is successful that means Tesla for the win, because they're the ones who influenced other manufacturers to make EVs and transition to EVs and it's Tesla's goal!
tesla will survive along side with byd.
it's the other auto manufacturers should be worried about.
congratulations to BYD ! insanely hardwork behind the scenes.
Tesla made almost all patents open source allowing the other brands using the technologies that Tesla researched and developed
I think they should ask BYD who is ahead, if them or Tesla, and how many years they think they have a handicap.
Agree. Tesla will survive well just like Apple, along with other phone companies like Samsung and Xiaomi, etc.
😂😂😂
It's an amazing video clip. Thanks for sharing this information. Regards
There should be healthy collaboration between all these companies manufacturing electric vehicles which will help to make this tech available to common people.
Just a very cheap price. Just 15000 US dollars, you can get a 550km EV car !

Apparent quality of the car, multimedia, torque, overall handling of the car and all features at a competitive price, lower than comparable ICE cars.
So do you think it's fair to say that BYD is killing Tesla? The New York Times ran an article just last week that called BYD the "Tesla killer".
@DWREV I don't have a crystal ball, of course, but BYD gaining access to the US market through Mexico will be huge. Purchasing an EV for less than USD 25k or USD 20k in the US will be a guaranteed success, in my opinion.
Yeah, if they can provide the quality you describe and keep the prices low, they'll be hard to beat.

BYD will have a harder time entering the US and European maket because they don’t have any manufacturing plants there in order to bypass the tariff. But even when they do manufacturing jn Europe and US, they will lose the advantage of China cheap labor cost. Unless they can automate and make cars just as cheap as Tesla and make their comparable model cars more attractive at the same price as Tesla, they still cannot compete.
BYD is too clever, they are building a plant in Hungary where wages are lower than Teslas Germany, where Hungary buys russian gas so energy costs are lower to manufacture and also have political leverage over Pro-Russian Chinese Political elite, also they are in EU so ideal candidate

BYD will have a super hard year in 2024 as their economy tanks and government subsidies dry up. Tesla will have a bit of a cushion but less and less people in the US are willing to buy all electric. Until the electric technology gets better, ICE will reign supreme. Maybe in 20 years or so, electrics can be everywhere.
Thats what you think, BYD already positioned to setup big plant in Mexico as a back door to enter all north Canada & southern part of the US territory.
Of course, if it is not "our" player, they don't deserve to play by the rules of the competitive market and we should "investigate" them.
NIO is also the Brand for the future and the only Company with it's swap battery solution which is amazing. And the only Company that has managed the range of 1000 km on a full battery with it's solid cell Battery.
Cool that you mentioned that. With any luck we'll be testing a NIO EL6 and those battery swapping stations soon, so check back!
BYD, a Chinese automaker, has a significantly larger customer base in China compared to Tesla. With approximately 1.4 billion potential customers in China, BYD has a substantial advantage over Tesla, which has a customer base of around 340 million. This disparity in customer reach contributes to BYD's position as the leading automaker in China. Despite this, Tesla should be commended for its competitiveness in the Chinese market, given the dominance of BYD.

Tesla once said they were not a car company but a software and innovation company. because they know they will not be able to beat the efficiency and low costs of Chinese manufacturing. Meanwhile, European car companies should follow in Tesla's footsteps, rather than competing, it is better to focus on moving on a different path, so that the electric vehicle market will become more diverse and create a good future for electric vehicles and environmentally friendly technology.
The protectionism of US and EU can only backfire. EV adoption has slowed significantly in the US due to the lack of competition and infrastructure. Without China's involvement, ev will remain a marginal market in the US. Just look at the models eligible for government credit, not attractive at all. no one wants to buy them. The result is that GM and Ford significantly cut back their EV investment and R&D.

You are being goofy or deliberately talking funny by suggesting to build EV factories in Canada, knowing that it was Canada that kidnapped the CFO of Huawei on behest of the US under Donald Trump's watch, and kept her under house arrest with electronic shackles locked to her ankle for more than 1000 days before she was released without any charges.
