No, the attachment point isn't centred, either. What is centred is the pivot point, which is slightly offset because the attachment point is recessed and has to go around the dispenser body when the cable is running off to the right side.

Hey Kyle, you probably know, but I just saw it the other day, Tesla is putting in a Supercharger Station in Alamosa, CO. It's a charging desert for the most part down here, so this will help pull some EV's into the area, and also help travelers with a better route to Durango, and locations in SW CO. It's still being constructed, and is slated to open in Q2 '24. But I'm hoping it'll open ahead of time.

Interesting look at a charger in my home country. And not far from where I used to live too. But Best is VERY FAR outside Amsterdam, almost on the other side of the country 🙂
I wonder if they were planning to put in one more station but someone didn't make the slab big enough, and that's why one charger is still sitting there.
The left side of each dispenser is lined up with the center of the parking spot because that's the side that the cable is hanging from, so the cable hangs at the center of the parking spot and can reach equally far on both sides of the vehicle. So the offset makes total sense to me.

I’ve been noticing that in these European videos. Almost every location he has been to has had pavers (Porsche, the “perfect” facility, etc). i do not know the regulation in NL but in germany you get charged for the amount of rainwater your facility is pouring in the sewage system of the community. so by using pavers that will let the water sip through into the ground and keeping the excess water on heavy rain on the site (like here where it looks like the lowest points are around the trees with soil around) you will reduce the running costs of the site and fill up the groundwater.
such a system is of course not allowed on a gas station with all the risk of spilling oil and gas. another bonus factor of e-mobility

8:37 The dispensers look to be positioned so that the tethered end of the charging cable is in the center of the stall. That means that the cable will have equal reach on either side of the vehicle. If the dispenser was centered, the cable would reach farther one side than the other. This also has the side effect of preferring Tesla's charging port placement by making that the shortest distance from dispenser holster to charging port.
Or maybe that's just where the old V3 dispensers were to reduce the amount of work in the site renovation? I don't think you mentioned if this was a new site or a refitted one.

So hopefully this puts to rest all the nonsense everyone was referring to about cable length and fitment all around lol. It should’ve been obvious but it wasn’t. Also I think it looks fine. Very nostalgic in fact

I don't think the cable catching at the bottom is an issue. Who pulls the cable off and immediately pulls it away laterally, instead of take it to their car? lol cool to see so many v4 coming online though!

Kyle - have you guys tested out the new V4 superchargers in the USA (a new one opened in Atlanta by the airport). I love this review but could care less about V4 supercharging in the Netherlands 😎.
Can't wait for the Tesla NACS Connector and the Magic Dock to essentially "work". A few weeks ago, I decided to take a risk and charge my 2022 Volvo C40 Dual Motor EV at The Tesla Superchargers in Vicksburg, MS. Terrible charging experience! I loved the fact that the CCS Magic Dock was installed, but when I plugged it in, I couldn't really get a charge to go through from the Tesla "Charge your Non-Tesla" app. I tried this at 8 different stalls with the same connection error. So, I don't believe this is ready for Prime Time for Non-Tesla owners. Volvo Cars USA hasn't come out and certified the Magic Dock connection either. I landed up getting stranded in Vicksburg at 10% SOC and had to stay overnight at a hotel so I could charge at a L2 charger to my final destination (Baton Rouge, LA). I have had no issues going I40 East to Nashville, I40 West to Little Rock, AR and even Saint Louis (MO) utilizing Electrify America's DCFC

it is the wrong side as Bjorn says .......because in a garage that is not super wide u park so that there is more space on the driver side and plugging in on the driver side is more conviniant and closer to u when u get out

they havent got the rubber stops on the floor that you drive into so you stop in the correct position and not crash into the charger

I would say just using a the brand new V3 in Calgary, the charger placement is poor as you have to line up the passenger tires almost on the line in order for the short version 3 cable to reach, likely poor positioning of the lines.

My ancillary question is: Does the V4 dispenser have the same mounting footprint and bolt pattern as the V3 dispenser? If it does then Tesla could retrofit the existing V3 dispensers with V4's as an easy upgrade assuming existing feeder cables are sized correctly .

So, this dispenser can deliver up to 1000V / 1000A, but where does the voltage get split? on the dispenser side or in the cabinet? Imagine if you're pulling up in your 800V Taycan next to a 400V model3. Will the Taycan then only get 400V and needs to boost itself up to 800V, because cabinet lowers to lowest denominator?

    • @andrewt9204
      @andrewt9204 7 месяцев назад

My guess is both. However it would require v4 cabinets with dual +500v rails. I'm guessing they'll run 3 conductors to the dispensers. Then the dispenser will have a contactor to connect the two +500v in series. It would double the wire length that way but at 800 to 1,000v that's probably not a big issue.
Actually now that I think about it you almost have to have two entirely separate 500&1000v rails at the cabinets with their own shared buss power. The dispenser still need three conductors with a contactor to switch between the 1000 and 500 rails.

DC-DC conversion is in the cabinet, right? So there is always target voltage on the run to the dispenser, and the dispenser only handles cable cooling. @@andrewt9204

Chargers don't operate at *either* 400V or 800V like that. The charger always has to precisely match the car pack voltage to supply the requested current. Car voltages vary across state of charge, so the charger is continuously adjusting. Tesla's are 300-400v; other cars are 600-700v.
At a charging station every car is at a slightly different voltage. The charger the car is connected to is adjusting the voltage as needed.
So in your case once Tesla actually supports up to 1000V the Taycan would get it's ideal voltage (around 800v) regardless of what other cars are adjacent.
