- Some nutrients get lost when you cook or blend food. In this episode, we discuss what happens to fiber when cooked.
Here's Diana's video on spinach: • What happens to fiber ...
I understand the concept of being able to take in more fiber if one eats 6 cups of cooked spinach vs 1 cup of raw spinach. The difference in caloric intake between 6 cups of spinach vs 1 cup is minimal.
But extending this logic to higher caloric foods like fruit can be problematic. Blending 3 whole fruits results in far more calories compared to eating 1 whole raw fruit. I know the “Full Plate” method of eating more fiber to lose weight doesn’t rely on counting calories, but calories DO count.
In general, I think the following maxim is more effective: “As much as possible, don’t drink your calories.”
👍
Annoying, because the question clearly states they only added minimal fruit for flavour - they were more concerned with blending veg. But she answered as if she was making a fruit smoothie, which of course comes with the calorie/sugar implication.
What happens to fiber when you freeze dry veggies? Almost everything freeze dried can be crumbled easily.
